    Thanks for the video. As a novice to these kinds of upgrades, it would be nice to see what these changes actually do when running programs or games. Not just a Sys Info read out. I'm yet to come across a video that really shows what the other benefits are of such accelerators. But it was interesting to see the install.

      Thanks for watching. When time permits, I will try to showcase real-world benefits versus synthetic style benchmarks, such as SysInfo. I'll see what I can do. I can't promise when but it will happen... eventually 😃

    Cool, nice guide. There is something so satisfying adding this much power to these machine. Back in the day I was happy with adding a hard drive.

      Indeed, especially for the smallest Amiga of them all. I wasn't a fan of the Amiga 600 at first, but that changed over the years. Plus, they are way more expandable than first thought.

    If it hasn't already that accelerator will pop off in the future, I have one and it does it quite often now. Each time you clip the socket down over the 68K the more grip it loses. So your concern was warranted.

    • @amigaretro1985
      @amigaretro1985  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. This concern was raised in my Video. I am not sure why they didn't go with a stand off mounting solution was used by Individual Computers with their ACA 620 and ACA 630 boards, using the existing slots for the HDD caddy on the A600's motherboard.

    I’ve seen Chris E. put a blob of hot glue on the center cpu hole of the A630. Glue can be easily removed with IPA if needed.

    I really like my A630. It is so much more reliable than my Furia was! I cannot fully tighten my case, as the fan hits the keyboard cable when I do. The creator has released the files to 3D print a little fan cover to stop this from happening.

    Yes, the main problem with the new A630 card is the missing screw holes (at least the left one). The socket, as good as it is, will get loose over time for sure, i don't know why the designer skipped this.

    • @amigaretro1985
      @amigaretro1985  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is odd indeed. The Indivision AGA MK-III has not left the Lisa Chip on my A1200 yet, it doesn't have any mounting hardware but it takes some effort to seat the socket, at least twice as much as the A630. The 68000 CPU does get a bit warm. It may be a matter of time before the socket works it way free after several hot and cool cycles.

    Great video thanks for uploading. Ive just bought this card and had nothing but issues with freezes but after watching you install the MMU library that's maybe where ive gone wrong will try again and see if it fixes the issue.

    • @amigaretro1985
      @amigaretro1985  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      An interesting fact I discovered after visiting the Manufacturer's Website (after making this Video), is you need to add a piece of foam or cardboard on top of the X1 Crystal on the Amiga 600's Motherboard to prevent the A630's 68030's CPU pins from shorting against the metal body of the Crystal. See if this helps your instability issues, if not already in place.

    • @maneuscalgar3967
      @maneuscalgar3967 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amigaretro1985 I have the same issue as UK Retro Gamer and I used a piece of foam on the X1. I think the problem could be, that we got a model with older firmware. Because my "Chip Speed vs A600" in Sysinfo is always at 1.20 with installed MMU.

    • @amigaretro1985
      @amigaretro1985  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SysInfo 4.4 shows about the same on my setup. Older versions, such as 4.0 show a higher Chip Speed versus A600, I believe around 3 times faster. Realistically, I think the score of 1.2 is more accurate (if in your case you are using SysInfo 4.4), since it is an A600 your are comparing against, being the same 16-bit bus architecture.

      @maneuscalgar3967 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amigaretro1985 Yeah, I use Sysinfo 4.4. @freeze: The freezing is probably due to an older firmware. The latter A630 were delivered with a new, very stable, firmware. The only possibility for an update would be the reflash with the Xilinx programmer. The developer told me that.

    New viewer/subscriber here 👍🏻 TH-cam algorithm brought me here 😉 Nice video 🎉 Couple of things. 1).. The A630 looks to be a nice card, although no FPU? Is this an option? 2)… When installing ThorsMMULib (Thomas Richter) that you should ideally run this in “expert mode”. This also gives you options with the CPU you want SetPatch to detect 👍🏻 Look forward to your next content and learning how to make 1MB ROMs. Cheers 🍻

    • @amigaretro1985
      @amigaretro1985  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for subscribing. 1) There is no FPU option, though the CPU is a full 68030 (not an EC model) so it does have the built-in MMU, thus why you can use the MMU Libs from Aminet. 2) Intermediate or expert is fine, normally I have not had issues in any installation mode, since the installer detects the correct CPU and installs the correct library to Libs:, but Expert Mode definitely gives you more control over the Setup process.

      They are part of the Magic Workbench distribution. You can get a copy from Aminet. Search for "MagicWB21p.lha" at aminet.net
      It's shareware and needs to be registered after 14-days. I think this is still the case after all these years.

      The system will boot to the Kickstart Start Screen if no CF is connected (Kickstart 3.1 or 3.2.2). Kickstart 1.3 works as well with the 1.3 ROM. Since Kickstart 1.3 does not have a scsi.device, the Insert Workbench Disk comes up pretty fast. since it isn't checking for an attached IDE device. My A600 boots floppy disks and games without issue.

      @bzyq81 Make sure the 68000 on the A600's motherboard is clean. Using IPA (Rubbing Alcohol) and a Q-Tip on all 4 corners of the chip's pins will help. Make sure no fuzzies are left behind from the Q-Tip. Using a Micro-fiber cloth works well too. Also, make sure the 630's socket is clean and securely seated to the 68000 . To do this, place the accelerator 's socket on top the CPU and push uniformly down on the center of the topside of the 630's socket. It should snap into place in one go.
