    Thank you so much for the instructional video. I made these over 40 years ago and lost the instructions. I couldn't for the life of me remember how to make these. I wanted to finish up the beads I have kept all these years. This is going to be an added craft project for Christmas 2022. Thank you again for sharing.

    Oh Julie! You are certainly a versatile talented lady! Just when I find you for making hexagon quilts you turn out to be a fabulous crafter as well! I’ve never thought about making these bells however now after watching you make them I want to give them a try! I love all the coloured ones you made, I’ll be on the hunt for beads now, thank you for sharing 😀

    I'm so excited to find your video - about 50 years ago I was give a bell like this for Christmas. I wanted to make some for my neighbors, and there was your video - ready to go. Thank you so much for your excellent instructions. I'm looking forward to my first bell! Had to order the beads so will be making them when I receive the beads - can't wait!

    Me and my daughter made these and I struggled at the end, making the bell, now I see what we did wrong, our needle was down on the inside rather than creating the bell on the top and then stringing it down to the bottom. Thanks so much, I'll finish what I've started with these instructions.

    Thank you for the tutorial! My mother made these with me when I was little but was unable to show my little sister before she passed. This let me show my sister how to do it so we could make these as mementos and in a way remember her over the holidays.

    Thanks for the refresher. I used to make these and some small half domes that we then stuffed with cotton and small figures (snow men, deer, etc). For some reason, I remembered using 6mm and 8mm on the bells, but the 6mm must have been for the other type of ornament.

    My mother-in-Law treasured her bell ornaments. I could never find information on how to make them. This tutorial is exactly what I have been looking for and I have been looking for years. These look exactly like my Mother-in-Laws. I think she purchased them in the 1970's in Indiana. She is gone now, so I can't ask. You might want to set up an Amazon link for the beads, needles and floss? Some people do links depending on the country they are selling to. I am in the US. I don't know how it works but I would totally follow your link to purchase the beads etc. since you have been a big help to me. I can't thank you enough and this tutorial is extremely awesome! Oh, and you answered my question on why you don't see glass beads. Thank you

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Jennifer for the fantastic comments. I will look into doing an Amazon link for next year but I think it is cheaper and easier for people to buy the beads on ebay and the floss from the supermarket. I am glad I could have been of some help to you.

    Your beads are breaking because you need a small eye beading needles with an eye that will fit through beads.😊

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The beads only break when you pull the floss tight....the needle isn't the problem....just weak beads. Thanks for the comment.

    Great tutorial!!!, Why do you say not to use flavored dental floss?

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. There is no need for flavoured floss as regular works perfectly.

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another reason noit to use flavoured floss is in case there is anything in the flavouring that could go off over time. Please remember thatthese decorations can last many, many years.

    My mother used to make these when I was a kid. But I haven't seen them in so long!!! I have a couple of questions. #1 - could beading thread be used instead of dental floss? I make beadwork jewelry, so I have fireline beading thread. I also have beading needles. #2 - If I wanted to use seed beads instead of the 3 mm round beads, what size seed beads would you recommend? My immediate thought would be 8/0 seed beads, but would 6/0 be better? I'm pretty sure 11/0's would be too small...

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi and thanks for the comment. The problem with beading wire is that it isn't flexible and so you can't pull it tight. I also have beading wire and I can't make these bells with it. As to seed beads you can definitely use 3mm seed beads which I don't know the equivalent number for but I am guessing they might be a 9 or 10. I know 11/0 are about 2.2mm so I am sure you can work it out. You don't need a beading needle....just any needle with a largish eye that will go through a 1mm hole.

    • @juliethornton

      I wouldn't think so as you need the flexibility and consistency of dental floss to pull everything tight and I know from making about 1,ooo of them that it actually works
