Namak haraam, indeed was a well crafted and equally well received movie. With Rajesh, Amitabh, Rekha in front of the camera and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Gulzar and Pancham behind the camera..in my young days, I went to enjoy the film with high hopes and came back highly satisfied.

इसलिये इस फिल्म को देखकर दुःख होता हैं! राजेश खन्नाने बावर्ची, हाथी मेरे साथी जैसी फिल्म करके रिस्क उठाया था! वैसे अमिताभ ने कभी रिस्क ( high time दरम्यान) नहीं उठाया!

Movie start with Amitabh end with Amitabh. While Iother side there is no big scene or long scene for Rajesh khanna. But the way Rajesh khanna justify his role is fantastic. Rajesh khanna is more natural than amitah
Rajesh Khanna was completely different in this film ..he was at his subtle best and very endearing 👍
Namak haraam movie is considered one of the classics for many reasons. It represented the merge of 2 superstars from different eras together. Like how day and night are merged and we call it evening. Similarly Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan worked together when they were in similar position. Amitabh Bachchan after Zanjeer and Rakesh Khanna with daag were hits but the era of rajesh khanna was on the end zone and the era of Amitabh bachchan was on the beginning. But both did good acting but i personally felt that Amitabh Bachchan did little over the top acting when he confronted rajesh khanna in couple of scenes like in the factory and when rajesh khanna visited amitabh bachchan's house. Rajesh khanna's performance was great. He neither over acted nor was overshadowed. I think Hrishikesh Mukherji was one director who knew how to bring the best actibg performance out of any superstar he worked with. Weather it is Dharmendra in satyakam and chupke chupke, Amitabh Bachchan in abhimaan, mili and Rajesh Khanna in Anand, Bawarchi and namak haraam.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee, in one of the interviews, mentioned that Rajesh Khanna's performance in Namak Haraam was better than his iconic role in Anand. In a way, the role in Anand was tailor made for Rajesh Khanna and he delivered it effortlessly. In Namak Haraam, he had to underplay the role of Somu (without any powerful dialogues) and in the eyes of the critics it was indeed a superb performance. Rajesh Khanna got the best actor award from BFJA (Bengal Film Journal Association) for this movie. However Amitabh got the best dialogues, complementing his angry young man image and was able to create a powerful impact with the audience. He got Filmfare's best supporting actor award for the movie. Unfortunately both the superstar's never acted together (barring a couple of special appearances) after this movie and this, in my view, was a huge loss to millions of Hindi movie fans. Both had wonderful dialogue delivery and just imagine the magic that they could have created working together.

मेरे विचार से फिल्म नमकहराम की कहानी बेहद रोचक थी ,ऋषि दा के जादुई स्पर्श ने नमक हराम को बुलंदियों पर पहुंचा दिया था ।
राकेश जी आपने बहुत सही कहा है कि फिल्म में राजेश खन्ना द्वारा सहजता से बोले गये संवाद सोमू के किरदार को विकी पर हावी कर देते हैं, मैं एक और अभिनेता के सहज अभिनय का कायल हूं उस अभिनेता का नाम ओम शिवपुरी है ओम शिवपुरी अपने अभिनय को कभी भी लाऊड नहीं होने देते थे।याद करें मौसम , खूबसूरत,कुली जैसी फिल्में उनके अंडर प्ले का बेहतरीन उदाहरण है।

There is something common about Shakti Chupke Chupke and Namak Haram. All these movies had someone else playing author backed role not Amitabh but it was Amitabh who shines despite of lesser screen time comparative to main lead due to his resilience in his performance and emoting eyes. His performance speaks a volume that has never been superseded by any actor till now.

Rajesh khanna ne script mein role galat chuna...somu ka role zyada impactful nahi tha. So he misunderstood the role... though somu's role also was a very important one...and Rajesh khanna acted really well...but it was Amitabh who took the credit....and yes stardom was passed to another hero....

The fact is when it came to music Shankar Jaikishan was first offered this film , but not the distributors but it was Shankar who had suggested the name of R . D Burman, as Mr Wagle and Pancham were close friends and when Mr Wagle went to Pancham da he wanted the reason behind him being offered this film instead of SJ , when he was told by Mr Wagle , that Shankar has himself suggested pancham insisted on comforting it from Shankar ji himself and only when after meeting Shankar ji that Pancham da agreed to do the film without discussing te remuneration, he said when Shankar Jaikishan never discussed money who am I to discuss it with you? I will do the film on the condition SJ used to . One bottle of whiskey… Pancham maintained this for all the later films with Mr Wagle
