The best part of the episode was learning that Robert kept his journal in a safety deposit box at First National as a kid since he was tall and then he fooled Marie with a fake for years. Marie herself thought that was too crazy to be true.
First time I saw this I expected the final scene to be Marie at First National demanding to see Robert’s safety deposit box 😂, cause I can imagine once she and Ray made up and Marie had a moment to think she’d realise that Robert having a fake diary and hiding it from her would make sense and of course being the control freak she is, she’d have to find out what’s in it.
This might've been the height of Marie's manipulation because not only did she manage to make Ray feel guilty after her obvious invasion of privacy, but she even turned Debra.
When I was an adult, my parents admitted they used to search my and my sister's bedrooms for cigarettes and drugs. I was furious! So I quit feeling guilty for taking cookies from my mom's hidden stash.
Yes I agree kids don't need a lot of privacy and sometimes we as parents do need to overstep to make sure our kids are okay but she went too far, I'd never read their diary. Check their room for drugs if I have reason to believe they have them, yes, but not read their private diary with that being said I probably wouldn't be here if my mom hadn't reas mine when I was a kid and found out I was suicidal
Every child should have there private & secret thoughts, especially kids. Marie is wrong for reading his journal. For Marie to hold a grudge against Ray for 25 years over something he wrote is childish
She read his journal against his wishes and then demanded he apologize for thoughts he'd recorded in private. That plus her repeated emotional abuse of him and Robert gives him every reason to hate her. With her patterns of behavior, it's no wonder that he not only resented her, but that he felt he needed to hide his true feelings because it wouldn't be safe for him to talk to her about them. And you feel bad for HER?!
Normal teenagers don't like talking to their parents. Marie clearly didn't respect that and the fact that she would read it to Frank too, proves it. Honestly, she was lucky he didn't hate her, well not to the point where he wanted nothing to do with them, but then again Debra's to blame for them being neighbors.
As a kid I hid Anne Franks diary between my mattress and box spring because it was a diary. My mom confiscated it because she thought I was reading in bed

I started keeping a diary when I was a teen but I got bored as I didn't have anything noteworthy going on to write about other than dealing with bullying practically everyday. Certainly nothing noteworthy when it came to success with girls 😞😔
Marie didn't do what she did to use his secrets vindictively. She did it out of motherly concern. It would have been different if she did what she did with ill intent. My mom didn't let me have a diary with a lock on it growing up, because she was raised to believe that children shouldn't keep secrets from their parents. I didn't like it or think it was fair at the time, but as a mother, I understand. You want to make sure your children are safe & not getting in with harmful crowds, participating in criminal activity, or being dangerously irresponsible. The desire for privacy is understandable, but a child's safety comes first.
Yeah, Marie talks about how hurt she was that Ray no longer loved her the way he used to, and he wrote that he hates her. He's a teenage boy - he's supposed to hate you at that age!
@@anthonyvasquezactor I do not agree that he is supposed to hate his mother. However, regardless he is entitled to feel however he wants and she needs to be adult enough to understand that.
The end of the episode is really heartbreaking for Marie. As much as I find her character so irratating, her reasons for reading through his journal were justified I believe.

"Marie Invades Ray's Privacy For Decades".

Should have been "Diary", as it is more specific.

Marie could give the mafia a run for their money lol. No one else could play Marie but Doris. She was born to play that part.

I think that Ray had wrote once in the diary that he hated his mother. It was this that broke Marie's prying heart.

Both sides are right. Marie should not have pryed into Rays private life, and Ray should have talked to his mother.
My mother read my journal when I was growing up, up until the day she died she wished she hadn't.

It is not justified and this is just a fact. You can't read other people's journal without their approval.
