Based on what? In some places in the new testament it does reference churches that meet for example at the house of Priscilla and Aquilla. But others, it was just said things like "the church at Ephesus." Those were likely in buildings of some kind. Be careful about putting God in a box and assuming He prefers one style of gathering or worship
