Pick the character you want and press character customization or something on the bottom right hand Conor and chose

U gotta but them with ryo go to collection on main menu plus also u can unlock them playing the story

Once you pick your character to chose the customization press square on playstaion idk the button for switch but it will give the option to equip

I haven't played online yet, don't really plan to. I play solo 99% of the time for all games (except the ones that require online).
