Good review. I considered swags but went the two man tent and inflatable mattress route instead. The tent and mattress packed down smaller, weighed less and cost less. In a side by side comparison with my brothers swag he had to leave his gear spread around the camp site while I could put mine away inside the tent and still leave room for me. Looking forward to your trip review. Cheers
yeah, i was going to get a tent but i need a good water proof one. All the ones i was looking at were up over $180. This swag was just too good to pass up on. I still may go the tent over the swag in futre trips though.
Good little review. I've got a little hiker swag for my long distance rides. very heavy duty, but the mattress was crap, so I've got a self inflating one. Looking forwards to seeing what else you've prepared for your ride.
Man, after your video I started looking those up and they don't make anything like that in the US as far as I could find. Just big ass tents or small bivi bags, neither of which have that water proof base and integrated pad! Bummer, still need to look around more, but those seem like the perfect little shelter.
Doesn't look like a lot of elbow room in those jobbies.. I wonder what sort of thermal insulation the covers provide? I run a jolly swag about 1m wide (stays just inside my pannier width) full canvas, nice 3 inch foam mat inside and a 0 degree "swag bag" (full cotton duck down bag.) I have woken up in the morning to -2 degree days with ice on the outside and frost from my breath inside comfy and warm as you like. Mind you it is so much larger.
With the Oztrail, it looked like the swag had just been unpacked from the box it came in, you know, all crispy, new and tight. Does it pack up just as compact? It's important for me because space is a premium.
lol yeah they are awesome ay. but like alot of others have said. The tent option is good too. The reason i went the swag was for the weather me might get on the way.
Those look pretty cool man! Back when I used to rock climb and moutaineer, I used something similiar called a bivi bag. It was basically the same thing, but didn't have the matress or waterproof bottom integrated into product.
i was looking at those ay, very compact. Would of been great and light for the trip. But i need to to spend my budget well, so i bought something i could use for other trips besides just the moto ones.
Thanks for this review. Has given me a few things to think about when it comes to swags. Would be interested in knowing what you do for shelter though (let's say you're cooking) and it rains. Do you have anything for that in your arsenal? Cheers!
DaMotoVlogga you can still see the stars in the OZtrail swag, you just unzip one side of the outer canvas cover and slide it to the side. I've found mine to be very flexible, if it's cold and/rainy you zip everything up and it's nice and cozy inside. If it's hot and clear you can open it up and get some breeze. There's mesh screens at the head and toe too, you can open them up for some ventilation even when it's raining.
It has fly screen at either end but its still needs a little extractor fan to stop condensation from forming on the inside and waking up with oilskin and sweat dripping on you as you get up. I'm still trying to figure it out really.
Hey mate, well I'm about 174m tall and about 92kgs. It was snug but fine if your just riding in and throwing it down for a few nights ay. I found it to be fine. However if your doing trips in a 4x4 and not using it on a bike I would go a king single mate. Also check out 4x4 super centre. You can get some good deals on swags there.
Nice review. I do like swags...used one for 2 1/2 yrs driving about Oz. But for a moto (for me) tents pack smaller and are lighter. Maybe a touch longer to put up and cut the starry view. RSM8
Can use it in the tray of the ute too. Loved swaggin by the fire the best. Had a dingo wake me up scratching about camp. Wombats just push past :) Glad I don't have to deal with those killer flies anymore but I do miss the west.
Toobi-wan Onroadi hahah true, its not so much the dingos and wombats i worry about. Its the snakes and the massive centerpedes that i saw last time i was out bush at night lol
Liked the review of them both, but I find it bit shocking that the Burke & Wills swags and other items are now made in China where before it was all Australian made. Its a kick in the gut where they have a good brand name but choose to get there stuff made in China and not keeping Aussies in jobs.

Cheers for the demo. Looks like the Oz trail is worth the extra setup time for the added comfort
that is true, however i nice night out bush the black swag is great for falling asleep under the stars.
DaMotoVlogga Good point. you would get an awesome amount of stars being out where you are

I got a wombat country canvas biker swag. huge. but with the panniers on a duel sport, its doesnt look out of place.
i was looking at those ay. but im on a bit of a budget atm. Does it come with fly mesh or is it an open swag! sorry no question mark key still lol
It has fly screen at either end but its still needs a little extractor fan to stop condensation from forming on the inside and waking up with oilskin and sweat dripping on you as you get up. I'm still trying to figure it out really.
Thanks for the review- yes you are out of breath, haha time to get fit !! cheers
I'm twelve and getting a oztrail biker swag how much space would I have on the inside

Toobi-wan Onroadi
hahah true, its not so much the dingos and wombats i worry about. Its the snakes and the massive centerpedes that i saw last time i was out bush at night lol
Ah the Aussie bush and it's critters. Bet you wouldn't trade it either.
Toobi-wan Onroadi never, im hoping next year we will be down south. Trade the dessert in for some green hilly trails.
