Here's my take why CoD isn't dead. Aside from the staple brand. It is because, it is competing with itself. If a person disliked this the current year CoD, then they don't have to wait long for the next one. Instead of fixing CoD2022, devs takes the feedback and puts it in the next game CoD2023 so the community buys the next one and so on.
I haven't enjoyed a CoD title in about 10 years.. Your logic only applies to people who didn't grow up in the golden age of CoD so they have no reference.

Heard CoD: WWII had a good campaign but mediocre multiplayer, same thing with Infinite Warfare. Heard the opposite about Black Ops III, hreat multiplayer and zombies but mediocre campaign (by Treyarch standards).
I’ve been going through the games in chronological order, and I just beat 2. Great game. I still prefer the first Call of Duty, and wish it wasn’t PC only. Excited for CoD 3! I did play CoD 4 when it came out and it was definitely lots of fun, but yes I love the WWII games.
Technically there were Zombies only mobile games, they ported World at War Zombies to iOS (and maybe Android) forever ago, played so much of those maps back in the day

I studied game design as an additional course to my university studies (yes they did it and as a video game enthusiast I didn't miss it). I saw that there are few factors that determine the success of a title. One of the most important is accessibility. Anyone can turn on Cod and enter battle without coming out with completely broken bones. If you've never played an FPS in your life, you can still finish a game with a few kills. If you have lousy aim, with low TTK you can always get a lucky shot that kills an enemy, if you have lousy movement you can camp. I'm trying the finals. I doubt it will be a good success because some little game design rules are completely wrong. Too high TTK with huge mobility. TTK must be inversely proportional to mobility.

Late comment, but glad to see another person acknowledge Infinite Warfare as a good game. That entry is seriously underrated. :) Also, I can’t help but respect this series and it’s devs (which is why I still remain a fan). The fact that they’ve been able to crank out 23 of these games on a yearly basis and still have most of them turn out decent at worst (with a few exceptions) is, in my eyes, pretty commendable.
Well, to be fair my dude Infinite Warfare was a major stinker, that was the first game I ever beta tested and I didn’t buy it. It was just simply not call of duty anymore but some feeble attempt to try to convert halo fans

Maybe I’m too much of a boomer to enjoy the advanced movement, but that paired with the weak gunplay and overall unsatisfying sound effects turned me off to this particular title. My faith in the franchise definitely wavered after this one, and I pretty much ghosted the series until Modern Warfare 2019 dropped. Overall I guess it was too gimmicky for me to be invested.
The sbmm and the store bundles are killing it for me. It used to be great. Mw2 should have came out with the original og maps without a second yearly release like they said they would do. Yet they scraped that and said let's make mw3 and give them what they wanted from the last game we lied about. It's bullshit.

Gosh I remember playing Allied Assault growing up. I haven't play it in years but I still have the game discs and the expansions. Good times. Also nothing will ever beat playing split screen Black Ops at a friend's house in 9th grade at like 1am. Great times.
2009 mw2, 2011 mw3, bo1 and bo2, advanced warfare, mwr, cod ghost are the best in my opinion. cod has been dead or slowly dying after those games for reasons like having micro transactions, pay to win, different developers etc. the earlier cod games you had to grind and level up, the killstreaks and weapons were fine, no micro transactions.
This just proves that literally everyone is different and any cod you look at there will always be players that hate it and others that love it.. Because ghosts was absolute trash and same with AW. I agree with you on the others though. It’s that and MTX as to why the game is still alive.

Infinite warfare honestly had a super underrated campaign, when I finally got around to playing it I had a lot of fun, the space combat especially was very good.

MW2019 got me back into cod and I can say that it’s one of my favorite cods. The campaign was fire. Multiplayer was fun including search and destroy. And warzone was a blast. It was the full package for me.
For once they listened to the community for MW2019 because they knew if it was a flop the call of duty franchise would have probably ended , and then after the big success they started doing shit again
Yes MW2019 was a great game and got me excited for the next MW. To make things short, that excitement I had with COD was stripped away after I played MW2.
Campaign was great multiplayer was meh to me and warzone was actually quite boring tbh probably because i was over the whole battle royal genre and since most games just copy battle royal formula specifically fortnite it made me lose interest
Interesting fact about Treyarch, half of their team worked for Grey Matter, which worked on CoD1's expansion United offensive. So they technically have been working on CoD since 2004.
It was just good that was it, it was just a diet MW2 without the High Highs that it reached, it didn’t feel as the next step for Call of Duty, just MW2.5
Nowadays, people look back at MW3 more fondly. But when it first came out, people thought it was mid and didn't live up to the more popular COD games around that time, namely MW2, BO1, and BO2. Those 3 games are still in most people's list for top 5 CoDs.
MW3 was the last cod game I put any investment into. It was great, not perfect but imo it was basically a balanced, slightly watered down MW2. But MW2 was so good that it’s ok
Activision has milked the community dry for disappointing pump and dump games, at this point there should be boycotts over it, they said mw2 was a 2 year cycle so I buy it thinking il get a good two years out of it but nope they go back on that once it's already bought. I think they made 3 shitty cods on purpose so they could come back with basically the same game as mw2 with better graphics and wed all miss that style and be hype asf about it when it finally came back, and we are. They are genius asf
Gosh I remember playing Allied Assault growing up. I haven't play it in years but I still have the game discs and the expansions. Good times.
Also nothing will ever beat playing split screen Black Ops at a friend's house in 9th grade at like 1am. Great times.
2009 mw2, 2011 mw3, bo1 and bo2, advanced warfare, mwr, cod ghost are the best in my opinion. cod has been dead or slowly dying after those games for reasons like having micro transactions, pay to win, different developers etc. the earlier cod games you had to grind and level up, the killstreaks and weapons were fine, no micro transactions.
This just proves that literally everyone is different and any cod you look at there will always be players that hate it and others that love it.. Because ghosts was absolute trash and same with AW. I agree with you on the others though. It’s that and MTX as to why the game is still alive.

Love the shoutout to MOHAA in the beginning. I was =TDR=Oberhaupt in that game. So many good memories playing that one. COD I was really into until 2019 or so. Ive tried out warzone but I mostly play PUBG these days.

Its pretty rad ngl, multiplayer is different but I applaud them for doing something crazy given their resources.
Infinite warfare honestly had a super underrated campaign, when I finally got around to playing it I had a lot of fun, the space combat especially was very good.
Xbox 360 voice chat CoD lobbies prepared me for the corporate world, I take zero offense on my zoom calls 😂😂

MW2019 got me back into cod and I can say that it’s one of my favorite cods. The campaign was fire. Multiplayer was fun including search and destroy. And warzone was a blast. It was the full package for me.
For once they listened to the community for MW2019 because they knew if it was a flop the call of duty franchise would have probably ended , and then after the big success they started doing shit again
Yes MW2019 was a great game and got me excited for the next MW. To make things short, that excitement I had with COD was stripped away after I played MW2.
Campaign was great multiplayer was meh to me and warzone was actually quite boring tbh probably because i was over the whole battle royal genre and since most games just copy battle royal formula specifically fortnite it made me lose interest
MW19 started a run of the worst games, camping, doors, no red dots..the people that enjoyed that game are the cancer to the community today

Interesting fact about Treyarch, half of their team worked for Grey Matter, which worked on CoD1's expansion United offensive. So they technically have been working on CoD since 2004.

It was just good that was it, it was just a diet MW2 without the High Highs that it reached, it didn’t feel as the next step for Call of Duty, just MW2.5
Nowadays, people look back at MW3 more fondly. But when it first came out, people thought it was mid and didn't live up to the more popular COD games around that time, namely MW2, BO1, and BO2. Those 3 games are still in most people's list for top 5 CoDs.

MW3 was the last cod game I put any investment into. It was great, not perfect but imo it was basically a balanced, slightly watered down MW2. But MW2 was so good that it’s ok

Activision has milked the community dry for disappointing pump and dump games, at this point there should be boycotts over it, they said mw2 was a 2 year cycle so I buy it thinking il get a good two years out of it but nope they go back on that once it's already bought. They saved the mw2 maps for MW3 cos it's all they have to claw us in
There trying to target new audiences since there more likely to spend money also cod games life expectancy was around 1 year sometimes a lot longer but the newer games i would say the life expectancy is like 5 months
