I was the "you" in these lyrics. That was 35 years ago and if I go down that road it's still painful! But by the grace if God I made it through that sad period of my life.

Yup, this song is deep and very groovy. The irony is that this R&B classic wasn't written as a 'break-up' song. The lyrics are about a couple trying to reconcile infidelity in order to save their relationship. Kinda like trying to stop a cruise ship from sinking by sucking up the water through a soda straw. Damn.

Do you notice how music like is timeless? Amazing how no matter what decade you are in, the experiences of what is communicated in songs like this applies to situations of today. 30+ years later still applies. Even my children who are teenagers listen to this and say...I understand what is going on. suggestion, do not force your kids to listen, just start cooking in the kitchen and play some of your old stuff and watch their reaction....it is priceless!!!

Wow! This takes me back to 1984 when I was fresh out of Navy boot camp and partying at the Marines base in San Diego, Ca! What's so crazy is that me and a fellow shipmate were jamming up to cousins and this song came on so I asked the one my friend was feeling for a dance and the rest is history! She said she was glad I made that decision to ask for that dance. Hard to believe it's been nearly 37 years! A lot has happened in that time but one is the same, good music that makes the memories sweet!
