I own one of these fertilizer spreaders. I bought it out of a shed with the distribution slide stuck. I am hoping to go through it this summer and see if I can get it working. I have a operator's manual and sales brochure of the No. 111 but never have seen it working!! Thanks for sharing the video. I agree sound would have been nice but for me it was good to see it working in the field.
When my dad ran an elevator in the 60's, they had a granulated fertilizer storage building and one of these spreaders. I actually pulled it behind our D17 and spread our entire corn acreage 2 years in a row. Later years, I ran a fertilizer plant. Built myself a set of test pans using 1/4 plywood to check the pattern on my New Leader spreader trucks. 1978.
In '70s, grew up using NI cutditioner (7.5' model) & 2-row ear corn unit. My dad had figured to buy the sheller unit and switch back & forth between the husking & shelling beds. He must have decided it was more involved than he wanted (probably didn't have the logistics/equipment to make it easy) as he quickly bought the row unit for it. Put more acres than I can count on all of them.
I wonder if any of these are still around I actually used a new idea corn sheller to shell off about 5 acres my buddy had and to test the thing out it operated good my tractor was to powerful for it though!
That's nothing more than assault sand spreader for winter time do the same job you could probably get an old used one from the state highway departments or something like that
No sound is like reading a book. You make pictures in your for the book and you make your own dialogue for the video. I kinda liked it. One question though. Is the pto running the chain that brings fertilizer to the rear and the spreader discs are run by the wheels? Thanks J and L
The discs are driven by the pto and the floor chain by the wheels so the revs of the tractor stay the same to keep the spread pattern the same and if you increase or decrease the forward speed it increases or decreases the amount of fert so the amount per acre stays the same, such as going up a hill and you drop down a gear the rate stays the same, very simple but very accurate
Doesn’t make much sense not to have sound with a video, a lot of information can be found from the sound. Any way keep up the great work on showing everyone the videos from the past!!!
I'm not sure if they were suppose to have a booklet for the dealer to read while it was shown like Allis's kitchen demonstration films or if it had a separate audio reel that's been lost or what their idea was. I was surprised myself when I got these and they had no audio
@@JandLVideos Most likely there was a script. The Case combine vids I posted actually have them, even though they came with records. Not quite sure why. Suppose.... just in Case. :vD
I have 4 new idea films and 3 don't have any audio. I don't know if there was suppose to be a booklet to read with it or if this was just the way they made most their films?

Ah the golden years of farming man those were the days
The best manure spreader by far was the New Idea.
I have no sound
This one has no sound
@@JandLVideos I didn't see that note til later. Do you have a lot of video's on Ih's like you do the A-C's? If so can they be purchased?
@@coreyacre6070 not much for ih films, I do have a couple case films coming up
@@coreyacre6070 actually I spoke too soon, I just came across a few more IH films

These spreaders were built in Coldwater OH. 30 miles from where I live.
Darn my ears! Oh.... silent video it says. That's better! :v) Great vid to start the New Year! May it be better than the last! Regards!
Next week's film has sound again

That was a salt and sand spreader
Fertilizer is extremely corrosive so I'm sure they all rusted out years ago.

@@stephenoliver958 thank you very much for that detailed explanation. I really mean it, thank you.

It's too bad there isn't sound with this video. It would be nice to her what they are saying.

Neat film. It’s interesting that they show a short clip of them doing scientific coverage measurement. New Idea had great ideas. 🙂
