Not one, but someone I know had an incident where she called, instantly muted the phone, pulled up the number pad, and then pretended to be about to dial 9-1-1 when the guy turned back towards her. He yelled at her to drop it, she did, and stayed on the line until the police showed up to not one, not two, not three, but five half-naked guys, two clothed ones on lookout, and three naked girls, two of them unconscious, and the phone on the floor in the next room over, still able to hear some of what was going on. Basically, the guys were pulling girls that passed by into the abandoned building they were in, stripping them, and... taking turns. She'd gotten her phone out of her... well, not really a pocket... she keeps her phone and wallet in her cleavage... anyways, she did all of that with one hand while they were literally dragging her by her legs after they *thought* they'd knocked her out with a whack to the back of the head, but really only gave her a concussion that stunned her for a few seconds, long enough for her to drop and them to grab her legs, but not much beyond that.

When my mom was in a accident she went back after she got out the hospital and thanked the 9-1-1 dispatchers, they cried. They really do appreciate it when you go back.
I just hollered into the phone......I was chased by a HUGE lady with 2 butcher knives into my bathroom...I even had a horror movie moment! At one point I’m holding the door cuz she is throwing her amazing girth against it..and then the blade of a knife comes through the door! (One of those hollow cheap trailer park doors).....cops show up and come to find out her granddaughter has a crush on my boyfriend and whines to her grandma and granny got to drinking and decided I had to go...it was 11 am!! Happened in Spokane Washington....was craziest thing I’ve ever experienced....

duuude that's how the grandfather of one of my friends died. he was with a guy to sell his produce and they were crossing the street. the other guy didn't want to cross as a semi truck was getting closer. the grandfather in question said and i quote "come you fool, there's enough time" and then got smashed by the semi and projected into another car coming the other way. dead on the spot with those famous last words. imagine that in the last moment of your life you go out being wrong.

Yes as it isn't an app. It has access to GPS while a phone call can only say about the connected tower.s We don't connect to 3 towers directly for phone call. That's why he said radius. The radius is the distance from the tower but it cant tell the direction. You need towers connected directly to pinpoint the location. Two towers would give two distant points while only one tower will give you a radius.
police dispatch for a small military base, years ago. had a call where i just got gurgling. it was several minutes of y/n questions, one tap yes, 2 for no. is the street name first letter a, m, or between them? etc. it was agony, but finally got a location, a barracks. full force search of a 3 story barracks, and found him. he'd smuggled a shotgun in, and attempted suicide with it under his chin. i later got told he "missed", took off his entire face forward of his ears--eyes, nose, jaws, everything. gruesome.
To comment on the first post; something similar happened to my mom and I. we were walking down the street to the bus stop, she tripped on a branch that was on the sidewalk, and fell down face first. I called 911, and got a pre-recorded message asking us to stay on hold or to call back. It was scary and a total wtf moment. To have my elderly mother on the ground in pain and not knowing if she may have broken a bone, and getting a pre-recorded message from a 911 line when you're expecting to get a dispatcher of some kind.
This proves how important it is to listen closely and pay attention. I’ve heard a few stories like these, like pretending to order a pizza or faking an appointment to get help. And texting 9-1-1 was made for dire reasons like these where you need help when you’re disabled or without tipping the suspect off.

In NZ lots of innocuous websites (supermarkets, garden centres, banks) have a secret hatchway down by the facebook links and stuff where you can ask for help without leaving any trace in the computer. Worth checking for.
The one at a camp where a kid left the phone on the line and left: I have a similar story. I too was at a camp with another camper who looked a lot like me. They did the same thing, but there were cameras around. Other camper and I were wearing very similar outfits and I got blamed for it all. I didn’t stop getting in trouble for “lying” until I admitted to it. Then I got in trouble for doing it. What a week that was.
The last time I had to call 911 was in the Minneapolis riots. I begged them to save our building because it was full of handicapped people. Too bad the police refused to help but we warned enough people to stay in the lobby. A lot of my block is destroyed but our building made it.

Here's a tip from my former driver's ed teacher who was also an ex-cop: If you are ever car-jacked (held hostage, usually at gun point, and forced to drive the culprit somewhere), you need to drive as recklessly as possible. Don't endanger other people, obviously, but go over the speed limit, drive over the lines, run stop signs, swerve. The point is that you want to get pulled over. The last thing you want to do is take the person where they want to go where no one will see what happens to you afterward. But of course, once you get pulled over, you're not safe until you are out of the car. When the officer asks for your license, instead give him/her a credit/debit/gift card, just anything that's not what he/she asked for. The officer should then ask you to step out of the car. Once you are out, IMMEDIATELY tell him/her that you were car-jacked and inform them whether the car-jacker has a weapon.
That nail salon/Shelter card is almost the exact same thing I got from a shelter. Except the tiny rolled up paper was in an empty lipstick with numbers to call in case of different emergencies.

Sceptical Hyenas yeah, it was fricking awesome. The lady had an abusive boyfriend and he told her to order a pizza, but she dialed 911 and pretended to order a pizza. She kept on placing her order while the dispatcher was confused and wanted to direct her call elsewhere, but she kept on saying 'no no, this is the right number'. Eventually, the best part was: Dispatcher: Ma'am, is there someone in the room with you? Caller: Yes. You can figure out where it went from there. :)
I have seriously considered getting a landline just in case I ever needed to call 911 and, for whatever reason, cannot use my cell phone. It would be nice just for peace of mind.
we're elderly, and this is why we've kept our LL phone. right straight to "what's your emergency?". they already have everything needed to get to us. i used to remark that it seemed you could tell who was dancing with the grim reaper when firetruck or ambulance parked at their home occasionally. now it's us (4 times in 2 years). if you're old, or have medical issues, a land line phone could be a life-saver. LR, BR, and one near to the bathtub and toilet.
I was the guy who called 911. We had just moved into our new trailer house and had been there a few months and the screen door had a bad lock so it would blow open in the wind. I thought some one had broken in and was stealing our stuff. It was the screen door. Ide like to thank the boys in blue who helped us and the kind dispatcher lady for being understanding. We had been burgled before but we were not home.

The reason they knew where the payphone was is because in the times of yester-year, if calling 911 via payphone communicated a special number to the phone company which wouldn’t charge you and would send the payphone-ID or actual location to the 911 responder. This would not work with cellular devices because they’re not in a fixed location, neither do they have special ID’s. Some phones do include GPS signalling over phone but just leaving the line open wouldn’t let them know your location unless they have higher-tech tracking. If it’s a last ditch effort it might work, atleast they know your in distress.
At least it's better than the days where you had to attach a piece of paper or parchment to the leg of a bird and pray that nothing eats it on its way. Also I recommend to always carry a heavy object, like a sword pommel.

Back in the 80's, police showed up to neighbors apt. cause 911 kept getting calls from the address. They finally decided the dog was messing with the phone and it was self dialing 911.

@@mariamcrae7043 Ah. Well, people write them to flood the comments in an attempt to usually scam people, using lust, leading to sites that just scam you. Other times they can just be about advertising themselves. I'm pretty sure the bots can write hundreds or thousands of comments in a short while in different videos.
The thing I hate about people publicising these ways of disguising calls is that they are now known to many and will likely spread to people who do the things that force the people who are calling, to call. My problem with that? They’ll know that they’re disguising that call which means they’ll stop them from doing so therefore ruining that strategy for a long time

A bit into the post about the pizza call with the (fake) address of 123 Main St, I knew exactly which call they were talking about. I watched the news about that when it had just happened, and the transcript matched what I remember hearing to a T
so what i learnt is that if i ever get stuck in some situation where i need to stealthily call 911 im just gonna die or smth cuz even if i wasnt in that situation, i would self destruct while making a normal phone call

When I was younger I lived in a duplex (lower) and I called 911 because my neighbor (upper) was being beaten up by her boyfriend in her apartment and also outside in the driveway where I saw him knock her to the ground, kick her, and threaten to burn her with the cigarette he was smoking. I called twice and got a busy signal. Hung up, called my father, who I lived with, and told him what was happening. He told me to hang up and call again. I finally got through and was in full panic attack. Two officers came and rang the doorbell but, I was too scared to let them in so that they could go to their actual door to knock and maybe enter with probable cause. I was too scared because my neighbors boyfriend was a police officer. She moved out not long after that and I saw her at my job well over a year later. She walked in with a friend and I greeted her, like the way I would any customer, and then we made eye contact and I could see the shame and embarrassment on her face. I never let on though. I wouldn't do that to her, she was a really kind woman and she deserved better.
That one suggestion about just leaving the line open is bad advice. That only works with landlines, cellphones are harder because they can narrow the location done but it doesn’t give your exact address

Yes as it isn't an app. It has access to GPS while a phone call can only say about the connected tower.s We don't connect to 3 towers directly for phone call. That's why he said radius. The radius is the distance from the tower but it cant tell the direction. You need towers connected directly to pinpoint the location. Two towers would give two distant points while only one tower will give you a radius.
police dispatch for a small military base, years ago. had a call where i just got gurgling. it was several minutes of y/n questions, one tap yes, 2 for no. is the street name first letter a, m, or between them? etc. it was agony, but finally got a location, a barracks. full force search of a 3 story barracks, and found him. he'd smuggled a shotgun in, and attempted suicide with it under his chin. i later got told he "missed", took off his entire face forward of his ears--eyes, nose, jaws, everything. gruesome.
To comment on the first post; something similar happened to my mom and I. we were walking down the street to the bus stop, she tripped on a branch that was on the sidewalk, and fell down face first. I called 911, and got a pre-recorded message asking us to stay on hold or to call back. It was scary and a total wtf moment. To have my elderly mother on the ground in pain and not knowing if she may have broken a bone, and getting a pre-recorded message from a 911 line when you're expecting to get a dispatcher of some kind.
This proves how important it is to listen closely and pay attention. I’ve heard a few stories like these, like pretending to order a pizza or faking an appointment to get help. And texting 9-1-1 was made for dire reasons like these where you need help when you’re disabled or without tipping the suspect off.

They did the same thing, but there were cameras around. Other camper and I were wearing very similar outfits and I got blamed for it all. The last time I had to call 911 was in the Minneapolis riots. I begged them to save our building because it was full of handicapped people. Too bad the police refused to help but we warned enough people to stay in the lobby. A lot of my block is destroyed but our building made it.

Here's a tip from my former driver's ed teacher who was also an ex-cop:
If you are ever car-jacked (held hostage, usually at gun point, and forced to drive the culprit somewhere), you need to drive as recklessly as possible. Don't endanger other people, obviously, but go over the speed limit, drive over the lines, run stop signs, swerve. The point is that you want to get pulled over. The last thing you want to do is take the person where they want to go where no one will see what happens to you afterward. But of course, once you get pulled over, you're not safe until you are out of the car. When the officer asks for your license, instead give him/her a credit/debit/gift card, just anything that's not what he/she asked for. The officer should then ask you to step out of the car. Once you are out, IMMEDIATELY tell him/her that you were car-jacked and inform them whether the car-jacker has a weapon.

She kept on placing her order while the dispatcher was confused and wanted to direct her call elsewhere, but she kept on saying 'no no, this is the right number'. Eventually, the best part was:

I have seriously considered getting a landline just in case I ever needed to call 911 and, for whatever reason, cannot use my cell phone.
It would be nice just for peace of mind.
we're elderly, and this is why we've kept our LL phone. right straight to "what's your emergency?". they already have everything needed to get to us. i used to remark that it seemed you could tell who was dancing with the grim reaper when firetruck or ambulance parked at their home occasionally. now it's us (4 times in 2 years). if you're old, or have medical issues, a land line phone could be a life-saver. LR, BR, and one near to the bathtub and toilet.

I was the guy who called 911. We had just moved into our new trailer house and had been there a few months and the screen door had a bad lock so it would blow open in the wind. I thought some one had broken in and was stealing our stuff. It was the screen door. Ide like to thank the boys in blue who helped us and the kind dispatcher lady for being understanding. We had been burgled before but we were not home.

The reason they knew where the payphone was is because in the times of yester-year, if calling 911 via payphone communicated a special number to the phone company which wouldn’t charge you and would send the payphone-ID or actual location to the 911 responder. This would not work with cellular devices because they’re not in a fixed location, neither do they have special ID’s. Some phones do include GPS signalling over phone but just leaving the line open wouldn’t let them know your location unless they have higher-tech tracking. If it’s a last ditch effort it might work, atleast they know your in distress.
At least it's better than the days where you had to attach a piece of paper or parchment to the leg of a bird and pray that nothing eats it on its way.
Also I recommend to always carry a heavy object, like a sword pommel.

The thing I hate about people publicising these ways of disguising calls is that they are now known to many and will likely spread to people who do the things that force the people who are calling, to call. My problem with that? They’ll know that they’re disguising that call which means they’ll stop them from doing so therefore ruining that strategy for a long time
These people have some balls, I mean they’re not in physical danger but this would probably screw with a person.
This is why I feel like 9-1-1 dispatchers should be able to track the location of the the device used to call them

When I was younger I lived in a duplex (lower) and I called 911 because my neighbor (upper) was being beaten up by her boyfriend in her apartment and also outside in the driveway where I saw him knock her to the ground, kick her, and threaten to burn her with the cigarette he was smoking. I called twice and got a busy signal. Hung up, called my father, who I lived with, and told him what was happening. He told me to hang up and call again. I finally got through and was in full panic attack. Two officers came and rang the doorbell but, I was too scared to let them in so that they could go to their actual door to knock and maybe enter with probable cause. I was too scared because my neighbors boyfriend was a police officer. She moved out not long after that and I saw her at my job well over a year later. She walked in with a friend and I greeted her, like the way I would any customer, and then we made eye contact and I could see the shame and embarrassment on her face. I never let on though. I wouldn't do that to her, she was a really kind woman and she deserved better.
That one suggestion about just leaving the line open is bad advice. That only works with landlines, cellphones are harder because they can narrow the location done but it doesn’t give your exact address
Idea: call the 911 operator your drug dealer so it's not super sketchy
