Disperser on Ableton (without stacking multiple instances of EQ Three)

- Technical explanation: Kilohearts Disperser uses multiple all-pass filters in series to create the phase dispersion effect. An all-pass filter is a type of filter just like low-pass or high-pass, but it doesn't affect the frequency response, just the phase relationship.
Phasers also uses the same technique, but in parallel instead. This creates notches in the frequency response. In this video, I use two instances of Ableton's stock phaser in parallel to cancel the notches and get just the phase-dispersed signal.

Well, that is... certainly better than my previous approach of stacking all-passes in reaktor...
Thank you for this video, amazing stuff!
when an edm producer actually understands basic signal processing
i'll take that as a compliment
What’s a signal processing ?
@@bjornkameleon i'm probably explaining this wrong, but anyways: signal here means audio, then processing the signal is manipulating the audio with effects
@@offsetemusic it is :)
@@kvusic thank you! i'm relieved now lol
Awesome. Appreciate the in-depth look. Not everyone does that.
thanks for the feedback! i really love being nerdy about audio
That's so clever. Well done!
BRO i used to watch your channel a lot! it's an honor to have you commenting here, thank you so much!
Wow! You can't even tell the different, you made it quite similarly with the vst, good job! 👍
Thank you so much !
Game changer
nice! you got it!

Also, if you macro the Spread control on the Phaser-Flanger, it acts like the Pinch knob (Q) on Disperser because you're moving the bands closer together or further apart.
yeah! i forgot to include that on the video lol
nice thatnk you
Daaaaaaamn
valeu mano offsete
tamo junto :)

I'm currently 🤯
is there a way to add the "pinch" knob to this?
yes! just add a macro for spread on both phasers
(i forgot to mention that in the video because i don't use pinch that often, sorry about that lol)
What is pinch?
@@skips_51 pinch moves the all-pass filters closer or further away from the center frequency (kinda like the Q factor in a equalizer band)
what the fuck. I...I'm in love

Soooo this cant be done with older ableton 10 version phaser??
you can do it with the old phaser: th-cam.com/video/rDAIkPoHhXw/w-d-xo.html
but there are some drawbacks:
1. there's a -3 dB cut in the low-end (which you can't fix)
2. only 8 filters instead of 42
3. the macro values are omitted depending on how you set up the rack
I've been doing this for ages omg, cool video ;).
Saved 60$ in 40 seconds
and as a bonus you get 12 more filters!
exactly
Or saved your pc from an annoying russian malware

As someone who stacked fruity love filters in FL, I wanna know why this works the way it works
search about all-pass filter, this is the "secret recipe" of disperser
Can you tell me how you made it so that when you mapped a parameter to a macro knob, it defaulted to its full range? At 0:19 you can see that the “4” and “1khz” values are not the bottom value to the macro mapping. For me, it seems when I map macros and midi parameters, Ableton always uses the current parameter value as one of the boundaries for the macro/midi knob mapping and I have to manually go in and change it to be the full range for all parameters that I map. Thanks!
mapping the full range is the default behavior in ableton and i don't think you can change that. are you using a different version?
@@offsetemusic using 11, it could be one of my options.txt settings
How does it works, could u explain plz?
please read the description, the technical explanation is all there
@@offsetemusic thank u =)
but its so much easier and funnier to stack 100 EQ threes :(
yeah, but stacking EQ threes increases the CPU usage significantly and gives you way less control
this rack takes less than a minute to build and you can save it as a preset :)
hi other syn
no you're right LMAO i'm kidding@@offsetemusic
you're the original syn - biblical@@iamsyntact
@@synovamusic my bad! sometimes i can't spot a joke haha
Why is it cancelling all sound?
maybe you did some step wrong?
I found when I turn up the gain it works
@@FearTheWeird300 there's no step on this tutorial about turning up gain wdym
I actually had the same problem ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

that effect is buzzing of phase cancelling ? phasers really have a point 😭
i think you don't know what disperser is
