That rapid fire ELR group really was something, I shared it with my shooting buddies, they all reacted to it as I did. I find it funny when Mark says he's not a brilliant shot, but goes on to detail all the engineering side and the understanding of the way his gun is built, made to move, the understanding of ammo / wind etc... All of which is what makes someone a great shot, which he obviously is, but keeps it humble :D

Thanks for truthfully sharing what works for you. I feel very much the same as you with regards to harmonics, and that the shooter can make or break the accuracy of a particular rifle and load.
It is obvious you are not sprinkling a little BS in with your truth just to throw off other competitors, like one of the other channels does. (I think we all know who I'm talking about)
Your 'no BS' approach is much appreciated, and why I will continue to watch your channel.
Also what i notice and appreciate is the level of respect, teamwork, and professionalism between you and Sam that comes through in every video. You are a great team.

Love this video Mark, and all your videos mate. I’m a hunter primarily but gradually practicing longer ranges on steel. I really appreciate your ideas on load development and your take on the harmonics. I practise my target shooting with a 6.5cm. I have a 123gn sst hunting load running AR2208 and a target load using 130gn Berger VLDs using Ar2209. The later is about 100 fps slower how ever there is only a small difference of point of impact even out at 400m. While I do believe small details can make small improvements in accuracy, you can spend a lot of time doing extra work in reloading for little gain.

I had a Rem long range 300 WM and it wouldn't do good with anything i fed it. It now has a 30" Douglas with the stock Bell and Carlson dug out to accommodate the heavy barrl. It likes 190 matchkings. I had it built for 1000 yard benchrest. But i simply could not bring myself to burn out the barrl with 5 and 10 round strings. So i repurposed it to hunting and ELR.....both probably offering better barrl life. Its holding half moa at 100 with 200gr ELD-X projectiles. Next up is a 338 win mag on another Rem LRR action with a 30 inch Douglas. It'll be dedicated to ELR. Love your videos!

    Hey Mark!
Just about everyone spends too much time shooting groups at 100yd… However… It would be very interesting if you would on occasion follow up an ELR performance video with a 5rd group at 100yd or 100m… to demonstrate the performance characteristics of the same rifle and ammo in terms that most shooters can better understand or relate to. I think such videos would be popular… I know I am curious to see!
I have recently developed the opinion that sub-moa 3rd groups at 100… are overrated for most average shooters applications.
Ya mate… we want to know if your rifles that do THAT 😳… are they shooting tiny bug holes at 100… or what?
I imagine with your tilted scopes ur gonna need a pretty tall target!!!
    Cheers!

Do you have any tips for one who does not run a bipod? Letting the rifle lean on bags or such, makes it complicated to preload it, but is there any teqnique there that you know of ? Does it help having your weak hand, pushing the butstock into the shoulder?

Mark. What do you do when determining OCL? Do you play with seating depth or just aim for as long as you can with respect to the mag length? Is there a jump you like to start at? Seems the load development part is minimal but you surely have some thoughts on this?
On my weatherby Vanguard (Howa1500) in 300winmag, it has a long throat and I run out of mag length far before I hit the lands so its ether single feed por my mag determines the OCL. On some of my other rifles iv found some bullets like lots of jump, others like to be jammed.
    Thanks!

Around 24:30 you talk about the collarbone for shooting. Collarbone shooting always hurts a little even with a squishy recoil pad and leaves the collarbone bruised the next day, do you adjust for this somehow? Just take the bruising? Or is there a specific spot you use that doesn't cause pain and bruising?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not an issue I see, even when shooting the big ones, no bruising or pain, not sure what to tell you, FYI I show the spot on the collar bone in the video, Cheers

When I watch shooting videos, and shoot myself, the forward rest (bipod, fence rail, backpack, etc) is roughly 10 to 14" in front of the action. This is typically where the end of the chassis or the stock is. The physics of using a bipod seems to me that a rest that was significantly farther out would facilitate better precision. (improved groups vs improved accuracy) This would be a result of significantly decreased wiggle of the front end of the weapon. Why do we as shooters not create forward positioned rests? I recognize some down sides are weight, decreased ease of carry (unwieldly), decreased ability to adjust, and some other issues. However, it seems like an adjustable forward positioned bipod could be made for precision shooting. Your thoughts?

Hi Mark & Sam, I have a question I’m hoping you can help me with. I know a muzzle break helps a good deal with recoil of which I really need now since I just blew my right shoulder up. My question is 3 part, I’m shooting a Weatherby Accumark in 300 Win Mag and was wondering your thoughts on bolt on Muzzle Brakes? The second would be do you make them and lastly do you believe one will change harmonics more than another?
Thanks for your time and education.

I have noticed at long range 1500 or say and beyond that if I take my bipod and pivot that bipod to level the gun on uneven ground my rifle will tend to shoot to the opposite direction I have to can’t the bipod but if instead of canting the head of the bipod to level the rifle I extend or contract one of the legs to level the rifle to the uneven ground the rifle doesn’t trend one way or the other why is this? I’m using an atlas pic rail mount bipod it is tight I preload it as you mention and I have tried this now on three of my rifles and everyone reacts the same way my theory is it shifts the weight of the rifle more to one leg or the other which in tune makes that leg grip the ground more than the other maybe just a very very small amount but it’s there and under recoil the leg that has the weight on it holds and the rifle doesn’t recoil perfectly straight back!! I could be crazy maybe I’m wrong that is what I think is happening what do you think?

As someone that shoots tactical rifle and F class, I have to agree, you cannot shoot tactical rifle (which is what Mark shoots at very long distances) with free recoil. You have to preload and be attached to the rifle. There are way too many variables in that set up for free recoil. Can a free recoil be used accurately or even more accurately than preloaded form of shooting ... absolutely, just look at F class and bench rest, but the set up and conditions are very different. Every discipline and style is hard and all of them are completely dependent on consistency, assuming the gun actually shoots well. Consistency is the black art of shooting
