This must be a generation issue. I am so surprised that very few people watched this video and wrote a comment. When I was growing up, there was just ABC, CBS, and NBC, as well as PBS. When I was in junior high, everyone was saying, “Cable is coming! We will be able to watch many more stations and lots of sports.” Before cable, during the summer months, we would watch “Dialing for Dollars” at 1 p.m. and “Creature Features” every Saturday night at 9 p.m. Back in the 1960s, these old movies were our television staples, as well as an umpteen number of westerns. I truly enjoyed this movie! I found it absolutely hilarious. I never saw this one before.
Great movie. Enjoyed it immensely. Loved the action sequence at the end of the movie with the fight scene and then the speeding to the ship. Just wished it didn't end so quickly.
Even though I was a little disappointed with the ending, I was very pleased with this movie, this is the second Old Mother Riley film I have seen in years, the first was the one where she joined, or attempted to join, the British Home Front Army during WW2, I hope to find more here on TH-cam.
never seen this. it's fantastic! Bela Lugosi is so good - and here in a comedy - he's a riot. and Arthur Lucan's Old Mother Riley is a great character - never seen her before. thanks sooooo much for posting :}
I vaguely recall hearing about this movie. It's fairly amusing and Bela Lugosi's character is entertainingly vampire-like and Dracula-like despite his advanced age. He may not be as creepy as he was 21 years earlier in Dracula and yet he still gets the job done. I probably would've enjoyed this considerably as a kid.
"Put that in your smoke and pipe it." I've never in my life heard of such sayings accompanied with all the shenanigans in this movie and I absolutely loved it! 😂
Old Mother Riley (aka Arthur Lucan) was an old Music Hall act who also made a few films. This used to be on TV in the States quite regularly, called "Old Mother Riley Meets the Vampire" or even "My Son, the Vampire", complete with Alan Sherman theme song. Dated now, but it's great to see a young Hattie Jacques!
Even at his late age Bela Lugosi still manages to keep an immense amount of dignity, which isn't easy to do when you're in a movie with old music hall rejects and a robot that sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher!
This Lugosi Film is also known as " Son of the Vampire" in famous monsters mag & other. Got to love it for so many reasons . Bela looks great compared to his later 1950s roles. Well done buddy....
Entertainingly funny 😄!!! I'm a BIG, Béla fan, and I've never seen/heard, of this!! Thank you 👍!!! So, if there's a real fire in the 'spinning' fireplace, where's the chimney at🤔??
Lugosi reigns number one...even over Karloff...He could take the most mundane lines and make them sound like Shakespeare. He was a master at timing as well. Listen and watch him in Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein. Brilliant! I adore him in anything he does.
This movie was offered as Mother Riley meets the Vampire in the back of Famous Monster Magazine. For about seven dollars you could send away for a ten minute eight millimeter silent reel. Kind of glad I didn't spend my money on it as a twelve year old. But it is great to see it now in its entirety. My money was spent on movies like Phantom of the Opera, Frankenstein versus the Wolfman..
Apparently this is one of a series but this is the first I have seen as well before my time but seen Bela Lugosi in a few comedy horror films so I wasn’t disappointed. I noticed a few sitcom stars of the future and a couple of future carry on performers which will give you a clue what to expect though hard to describe the lead who wouldn’t have looked out of place in Monty Python and may even have been an influence.
To make this type of a film a lot of imagination is required. This movie is the product of such exceptional imagination & hard work of the actors and actresses who have toiled hard. It is a matter of great shame that now this type of films are very rarely created in the USA & Europe at the present time. Movies of this type are good for both children & adults. A dose of tonic for the stressed & unhappy human society.
@@carlb8378Yep. A culture of fear has permeated the Occidental psyche. When I was in Central Asia & Southeast Asia, it was refreshing to experience people just speaking their minds without fear of backlash. 😤
I should think by 1952 any mention of a vampire on the roam would be considered bogus and histrionic. But what the hay! We need a good old fashioned spook-out to rattle our teeth and shake the booties off the feet! :)

I just got a caution from You Tube , I'm just repeating dialoge from the film . Crossdressing was acceptable form of entertainment in VAUDEVILLE as females were played by male perfomers since FOREVER . So don't get your knickkers in a twist , it's only a movie . Now you see what I mean . (see prior statement )
Bela Lugosi had travelled to the UK to appear in a stage play of Dracula, which failed. He needed money to return to the US. Gordon persuaded fellow producer George Minter to use Lugosi in a movie in London. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Riley_Meets_the_Vampire
A Bela Lugosi vampire movie with a musical number and comedy?? Get outta here! A fantastically funny fantasy film with a hint of horror,. After reading the comments, I get all the Three Stooges references when, at around 20:00, the lady reads the note in the box that is supposed to contain Bela's robot and it's signed from a law office named "Fleecum Fleecum Fleecum and Grab! Uhm, and then when Bela's box is opened by that old shop owner who resembles a man in drag, WTH was that what POPPED UP out of the piano which is where she hid her crow bar?? Someone needs to slap that little twit of a kid upside his head, lol! Still batting 1.000 @PizzaFlix! The sauce is STILL with you.
Has anyone seen the biopict of Bela Lugosi 's life ? The part of Lugosi was portrayed Martin Landau . His later years were tragic as he suffered from unrelenting back pain . The poor man had no finances and died a heroin addict , so sad .
Never knew this existed It's a little Gem! A treat for Lugosi fans! Non stop craziness !

What a delightful, fun movie! Really enjoyed it!
Great movie. Enjoyed it immensely. Loved the action sequence at the end of the movie with the fight scene and then the speeding to the ship. Just wished it didn't end so quickly.
I know this film as "Mother Riley Meets The Vampire." Bela Lugosi so seldom got to do comedy. He was hilarious in this film.
Even though I was a little disappointed with the ending, I was very pleased with this movie, this is the second Old Mother Riley film I have seen in years, the first was the one where she joined, or attempted to join, the British Home Front Army during WW2, I hope to find more here on TH-cam.

Thank you so much for the information. I was wondering if this wasn’t,perhaps, the inspiration for some of the Monty Python characters.
Shelter?

A bit harsh calling the rest of the cast ‘rejects’. They’re all very familiar faces in British movies before and after this.
I'm dying! This is hilarious! I was confused at first. With Bela Lugosi I thought it would be serious but now it reminds me of a Peter Sellers movie.
Luv this buster keaton style. Tilly conquers all. Glad they saved this one from the scrap heap. Just so fun.
Thanks for posting. A bit "Dated" humour, but I still enjoyed the show. Bela Lugosi is good in just about everything he did.

The spinning wall is an old comic gag but it works every time . Plots stuck , throw in a SPINNING WALL . Ha Ha
Pratfalls also work.

This is a plot-point that is very easy to miss, but in this film, Lugosi character is NOT a vampire. He is a mad scientist who THINKS he's a vampire.
So funny Mrs Riley . It's super
