i think the APHE changes would be really bad. like if a tank only has a cupola weak spot, then good luck doing anything to it, especially if you can't flank it. it would require a LOT of BR changes, and gaijin won't do that, or if they do, they will make a mess out of it. so no, it is not needed. APHE now is balanced. it still requires skill to use
I will never understand the decision someone made in the 1940's to put a SINGLE SHERMAN ENGINE into the T95. Like I know the tank was only really meant for bunker busting and stuff, but holy hell you would think they would at least try and put an aircraft engine in it or something.

Since you asked, Dollar, I voted yes on the proposed tests. I agree with you that realistic damage models should be the goal, and we've had these mini-nuke aphe rounds for too long.
I believe large APHEs will be mini nuke like before, this changes really only effect low caliber shells. 90 and 105mm US, 100,122,152mm Soviet and 88mm German, will kill ur turret crew(and possibly the whole tank) with a copula shot regardless.
Once upon a time this Doom Turtle was a force to be reckoned with and a king of the battlefield if used right. These days in the age of overpressure, HEATFS proliferation, and ATGMs galore it has lost its charm sadly. It was a ton of fun back in the day.
Honestly I haven't died once from frontal pen, I don't even remember being damage... Mostly cupola and side shot deaths, but mostly cupola... I think lates br changes really helped t95, you don't see HEAT rounds as often

It takes 20 seconds to repair a barrel, 30 seconds to repair an engine in game, while it would take weeks for a professional team to repair it irl. Warthunder crew would fight to the last breath with 0 fear while irl crew usually bail if they get tracked. The game itself artificially buffed survivability massively, and therefore realistic damage model would be too little damage and far too inconsistent (hence why no one likes playing british AP shells). Any change that introduce inconsistency in a game that is already so terribly inconsistent is a bad change. APHE changes stated simply gives glorified AP to all vehicles, and if people hate AP now I don't see how they would suddenly like it then. War thunder is a good compromise between gameplay and realism, but realism should never come at a cost for gameplay since then it wouldn't be fun. Whats the point of a game that isn't fun?
I love the lore behind the doom turtle. The T28/95 was designed to break thru the Siegfried line. It was literally just meant to drive straight thru the heaviest armed fortifications the Germans had. No strategy. Just a gun so big it could Kill ANY German Bunker/Tank and armor that made it immune to anything smaller than a naval gun. And in the end just before it could be deployed a bunch of sherman jockies made it obsolete by using bull dozer blades to bury Axis tank traps then just drive over the man made hills they'd just created. On an unrelated note. That last game was TEXTBOOK super heavy game play. You pick a spot and play it defensively. Force the enemy to waste time and tokens on YOU so your team can maneuver and flank. Map control is one of the hardest things to learn in War Thunder but its what wins games.
I'd quite welcome the APHE changes but I think the community won't want it simply for the fact that APHE is the most consistently performing shell and Gajin is essentially asking the player base to change the one shell that isn't frustrating in its performance. If they'd first make every other shell more consistent then I think the community wouldn't mind the APHE changes. A good example was the FV 4002 shot you tanked. That HESH round was made to obliterate tanks like the T95 and IS-3 yet it barely did anything to you while hitting head on. That stuff shouldn't happen.
Realisticly no shell have consistent performance, they choose APHE because changing every other is a monumental task (for them) as is, plus its had to be done sooner or later anyways

What they need to fix is the barrel destruction. The ones in game are made of paper and get destroyed all the time. While in reality it was extremely rare. More often than not they would have been damaged due to hitting an object when driving rather than being shot.

The terrible max speed has an upside actually: unless you are driving through pothole or over cliffs, on flat ground the gun is basically fully stabilized. It almost doesn’t sway at all.
I just unlocked the T95 and got my first nuke with it and 3 or 4 matches that were close too If you like heavy tanks this is the tank for you, feels like your armor matters like the good old times before we had all these modern vehicles at low BR
Damn, feels like the editing in this one is another step up in a long line of steps up. I really like the idea of the APHE changes but... we'll see how it gets implemented. It's more 'realistic' and it would be objectively funny to watch the entire playerbase have to retrain itself on a new damage model where APHE isn't omnidirectional death. And it sounds like it could be a lot more fun, if they don't go too far in one direction and make everything a multipen slugfest where you're searching for the last crewmember.
Nice vid. At 13:36 Ya the T92 is a fun light tank. It is under-rated and gets a bit of a bad rap by most players but it is a fun sneaky little low profile tank. Only has 75 mm but it is still punchy enough and reloads faster than most things you encounter as a lot of what it faces has 85 to 90 mm. It is a good sniper tank and can still do well in towns cause of it's really low profile. People are not used to aiming that low to start with.
The gun on the T95 is actually my favorite gun in the US tech tree, that thing is a monster. Amazing ballistics, the APHE is deadly, and the reload isn’t bad. It also just feels good shooting in the move because you’re going so slow anyway.
It sounds a lot like the "volumetric" changes for ammunition and armor that we had several years ago. All THAT did was make the T-34 and Kv-1 armor almost impenetrable as it basically shrank all the sweet spots that you had to hit them in to make a penetration...and reduced spalling on their interior of most of the Soviet tech tree leading to a lot of Russian ammo bins NOT detonating when hit by penetrating hits. So, I've seen this type of change only help the Russian tech tree have their normal "baby-seal-clubbing" matches get even easier.
The music with the T92 reminds me of the Phlydaily toss bombing video with the Buccaneers S.2. Just for nostalgia, I would like to see you in 9.3 do the same, with why not the VFM5 or the Rooikat MTTD
thing about wanting more realism in terms of shot is that war thunder needs to realize they need to make the map sizes realistic make them bigger to more replicate accurate distance tank battles.
I have a video-series idea: You could play strictly in different playstyles with some basic rules. For example a video would be sniping, with the rule you can only move at the edges of the map, and try to kill as many tanks as possible from as far as possibe. In another video you could play very agressive where you always have to move towards the enemy, and you are not allowed to hide or camp. In another style you could play around the objectives, with the only goal to capture and defend the zones. I'm sure there are many more interesting playstyles. What do you think?

I voted "Yes" because there needs to be *some* change tested for APHE ammo, at least for smaller calibers and calibers with less than 250g of TNT or TNT equivalent. 250g+ should still act as a mini nuke though because no matter how fast it's going, a quarter of a kilogram of explosive confined in a thick steel shell can kill anything pretty far out when it goes off, let alone in confined space like a tank.
The APHE really NEEDS a serious rework since its the only viable (and borderline broken) round to use. But giving the track record of Gaijin its not going to turn out well, also if they do these changes then they HAVE TO buff the solid shots and finally fix the HESH rounds.

I voted yes because those who play in South America play with high ping and in this case we have almost 2 seconds of difference in reflection and since the gajin is blocking areas of the map with red zones, it is not possible to camp us and in terms of reflection we are at a disadvantage so people are using more heavy tanks like t95 to play but its weak point is still a huge problem because everyone always shoots at the hatch and this is being harmful for those who play with worse ping
you should do the italian tiger but about the aphe changes im very conflictid on one hand it would help some of the vehicals but also hurt a lot if them so idk how to feel i think the test run would be a good idea just to see how it preforms. also love the vids dollar ;)

We won't get the changes... because lets face it, the trolls came out in force to vote no to even TESTING the changes on the dev server. Terrified of a realistic change that might hurt their APHE.
A lot of people seem to have this idea that tanks have this super low survivability rate when most of that was due to ammo storage/layout and crew layout. A good modern example are how T series tanks have been performing vs western tanks. I'd like to have buffs to all the neglected ammo types but a good start is to rain in the only consistently over performing shell to be more realistic.
@@Lateraldamage yeah people who voted no consistently say that "aphe is the only consistent round". Sure, it is, except for maybe apfsds. But its consistent in being extremely overpowered in most cases. Whereas other rounds like AP and HEATFS, which are perfectly fine rounds, seem inconsistent in comparison because they require skill and precision on the users part. If theyre inconsistent, so is the shell. But APHE is always going to deal damage.
I wonder if 20mm aphe will at least be decent now that it has that post pen thing you mentioned going through engine blocks. It feels weird the armored target belts are worse feeling than one with 1/4th only AP-I. I'd be happy if i could use 20mm aphe like a 19mm pen solid shot in a pinch

Common things happen to ultra slow heavy tanks: in a good team, you can miss all the actions by being slow; in a bad team, you can still get a lot of damage in the target rich environment before they all ganged up on you, track you, destroy your guns, and then you will explode after they repeatedly hitting you hundreds of times from all angles. 😂
That poll went from being like 70% in favor of the changes to 40-60 split practically overnight last week. I think most of the votes against it are botted because it is just impossible to have such a drastic difference overnight. Quite a shame because it would be a great change and the only people against it are people that refuse to remember the positions of modules and crew members
That's strange indeed. From my (creating polls) experience, usually, first 10min decides how the poll will go. After that, it only changes a few % (one way or another)
@@DOLLARplays you’re correct, once the first few votes are cast in the polls typically remain the same percentage-wise, that’s why it was so weird seeing it basically flip from 70-30 to whatever it is now overnight. Hopefully we can still test it regardless of the vote because at the end of the day this is just a test we are talking about here, not a full implementation. I think Gaijin should’ve just added this test event without even asking the people whether they want to see it or not, and then have us vote on whether we want the new mechanic to be implemented or not

thing about wanting more realism in terms of shot is that war thunder needs to realize they need to make the map sizes realistic make them bigger to more replicate accurate distance tank battles.
I have a video-series idea: You could play strictly in different playstyles with some basic rules. For example a video would be sniping, with the rule you can only move at the edges of the map, and try to kill as many tanks as possible from as far as possibe. In another video you could play very agressive where you always have to move towards the enemy, and you are not allowed to hide or camp. In another style you could play around the objectives, with the only goal to capture and defend the zones. I'm sure there are many more interesting playstyles. What do you think?

I voted "Yes" because there needs to be *some* change tested for APHE ammo, at least for smaller calibers and calibers with less than 250g of TNT or TNT equivalent. 250g+ should still act as a mini nuke though because no matter how fast it's going, a quarter of a kilogram of explosive confined in a thick steel shell can kill anything pretty far out when it goes off, let alone in confined space like a tank.

The APHE really NEEDS a serious rework since its the only viable (and borderline broken) round to use.
But giving the track record of Gaijin its not going to turn out well, also if they do these changes then they HAVE TO buff the solid shots and finally fix the HESH rounds.

I don't know if that shot is easily reproducible, but it's a great shot. With APHE is better to go for cupola

I voted yes because those who play in South America play with high ping and in this case we have almost 2 seconds of difference in reflection and since the gajin is blocking areas of the map with red zones, it is not possible to camp us and in terms of reflection we are at a disadvantage so people are using more heavy tanks like t95 to play but its weak point is still a huge problem because everyone always shoots at the hatch and this is being harmful for those who play with worse ping

A lot of people seem to have this idea that tanks have this super low survivability rate when most of that was due to ammo storage/layout and crew layout.
A good modern example are how T series tanks have been performing vs western tanks.
I'd like to have buffs to all the neglected ammo types but a good start is to rain in the only consistently over performing shell to be more realistic.
@@Lateraldamage yeah people who voted no consistently say that "aphe is the only consistent round". Sure, it is, except for maybe apfsds. But its consistent in being extremely overpowered in most cases. Whereas other rounds like AP and HEATFS, which are perfectly fine rounds, seem inconsistent in comparison because they require skill and precision on the users part. If theyre inconsistent, so is the shell.
But APHE is always going to deal damage.

I wonder if 20mm aphe will at least be decent now that it has that post pen thing you mentioned going through engine blocks. It feels weird the armored target belts are worse feeling than one with 1/4th only AP-I. I'd be happy if i could use 20mm aphe like a 19mm pen solid shot in a pinch

Common things happen to ultra slow heavy tanks: in a good team, you can miss all the actions by being slow; in a bad team, you can still get a lot of damage in the target rich environment before they all ganged up on you, track you, destroy your guns, and then you will explode after they repeatedly hitting you hundreds of times from all angles. 😂

That poll went from being like 70% in favor of the changes to 40-60 split practically overnight last week. I think most of the votes against it are botted because it is just impossible to have such a drastic difference overnight. Quite a shame because it would be a great change and the only people against it are people that refuse to remember the positions of modules and crew members
That's strange indeed. From my (creating polls) experience, usually, first 10min decides how the poll will go. After that, it only changes a few % (one way or another)
@@DOLLARplays you’re correct, once the first few votes are cast in the polls typically remain the same percentage-wise, that’s why it was so weird seeing it basically flip from 70-30 to whatever it is now overnight. Hopefully we can still test it regardless of the vote because at the end of the day this is just a test we are talking about here, not a full implementation. I think Gaijin should’ve just added this test event without even asking the people whether they want to see it or not, and then have us vote on whether we want the new mechanic to be implemented or not
