Speaking of space, this might put into perspective
th-cam.com/video/Iy7NzjCmUf0/w-d-xo.html (How the universe is way bigger than you think) I think you should react to that as well. :D

If you haven't seen Labyrinth, you need to see it, purely for David Bowie's performance.
He wrote a follow-up to Space Oddity called Ashes To Ashes.
Also, check out his final album, Blackstar, which he made to deal with his cancer diagnosis and impending death. RIP to a legend.😭😭😭

His spirit is leaving his body. He's mind (ground control) talking to his conscience (spirt) as he dies and looses contact.

Thank you for making me feel old, I first heard this song on Top of the Pops when it was released.
2001: A Space Oddyssey is a classic film, which you should react to, based on the short story The Sentinel by the British Author Arthur C Clarke. Clarke was also the one who first proposed having Satillites in GeoStatonary orbits for world-wide communications.

I was born in 1955 and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. It would have been hard not to interested in the space program. The US was in a race (as well as the Cold War) with Russia and President Kennedy set a goal to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. In was a matter of national pride. Almost all of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo launches were televised. If a launch occurred during school hours, the nuns (I went to a Catholic grammar school) would wheel a TV into the classroom so we could watch it. When my father got home, he would watch the coverage on the news. Btw, we didn't have 24 hour news cycles, just a fairly short window except for the moon landings. We only had 3 network stations, 3 local and one public broadcasting station. PBS and the network stations all carried the launches so you almost couldn't escape it.
It was an extremely exciting time to be apart of because science fiction was literally becoming science fact. It was the first time a human being was on a different celestial body. Also there was an element of danger because these rockets were being developed as the programs went along and the astronauts were putting their lives on the line.
It is a shame most people no longer share much of an interest in the space programs.
Btw, I appreciated your movie reviews of Top Secret and Blazing Saddlers. I like it when young people enjoy the movies I loved when I was in my youth.

Somewhere on the internet there is a video of Bowie playing backup keyboards for an appearance by Iggy Pop on, of all things, The Dinah Shore Show.

I think my favourite of his is Life on Mars. I'll have to take a look at that universe film on you tube. Talking of this song and space I saw U2 in Montreal in 2011 as I was in Canada at the time and they had a recorded clip from the space station and he said the lines in this song about tell my wife I love her, she knows, then they started playing Beautiful Day and in the spoken bit in the song, he came back on the screen and actually did that bit of the song himself!

My favorite by him is 'Panic In Detroit,' but I don't know if there is a video for it.

David Bowie is so well known I imagine you've heard a good number of his songs and don't even know it. For example the TV show life on mars is named after a Bowie song so is the sequel Ashes to ashes. If You haven't seen 2001 a Space Odyssey you should watch it. Its not a Film you will soon forget. The Video from the ISS is worth watching if you haven't already. Another thing you should watch Is when David Bowie sung Under Pressure with Queen.

Hey Beautiful lady, you are right about just exploring, but for me not just space, there is so much of Earth that I want to explore, the foreign lands, the ocean, the mountains, and eventually would have to be the final frontier of space (sorry for the star trek reference, but could not resist). Great song, great review, thank you so much!

  • @fonsecorona
    @fonsecorona 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This is actually a remake of the song, from the '69 original...
The story goes the first version didn't make it all the way up in popularity, as its promotion had to be stopped for fear of causing an overall negative vibe to the Apollo project, which would happen to be landing the first man on the moon a couple of weeks later on, due to the tragic ending depicted in the song...But in '72, with the coming of Ziggy Stardust, his record company decided to give it sort of like a rebirth...And that is the version we see here..

Alongside 'Starman' this is a classic British anthem at this point. I recommemd 'Fame'...Bowie's trip into Funk and Soul, or 'Sound And Vision' from his masterpiece album "Low." Or fck it, just react to *anything* from his 70s discography you won't be disappointed at the incomparable creativity.

Hey Ash. I like"Space Oddity" it's a cool mellow song, but I prefer Ziggy Stardust. That riff is simply amazing, and I love me some walking bass line in a song.
Hey hey, to point you in a different direction. Check out music group, "The Police" with songs like "Every Breath you take", "Wrapped around your finger" and "Message in a bottle"

Yes David Bowie was an obscure glam rocker until that episode of Friends vaulted this song up the charts and Bowie into the Rock and Roll HOF. Sorry just having a little fun but a true fact about David Bowie is that his real name is David Jones. He changed his name to stop being confused with the Monkees lead singer Davy Jones. He is one of my all time favorites and has a deep rabbit hole of songs to explore. I saw his Let's Dance tour in 1984. Ashes to Ashes a follow up to this song and Changes are probably my favorites

At the time of Apollo, we assumed that man would be on Mars by 2001.
It's taken 50 years just to get ready to go back to the moon. But our technologies & computing power is so much greater now, perhaps we were best to wait 50 years to start making serious attempts at travel inside our Solar System.
The evolution of Space Exploration is set to take off exponentially!
I doubt we can imagine just how far our reach into Space will take us in the next 50 years? Or will time travel itself be a thing by then?
    Stay Tuned! 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

I'm fascinated by stuff about space. I'm a scientist myself (not an astronomer though) so there's certainly a general science interest there, but I get a bit extra geeky about all things celestial.

David did a sort of triptych of Major Tom songs the next a decade later called ASHES TO ASHES in which Major Tom still floating in Space has become a drug addict and BLACKSTARjust before he passed in which a relationship between the Cosmos and ancient religiin and mythologies and the exploration beyond Earth and its significance with life and death.

You should check out Leo Moracchioli and Violet Orlandi doing a metal cover of Roxette's "Listen To Your Heart". Leo has over 375 covers of popular songs. He sings, plays every instrument, and releases a new one every Friday. He has a great sense of humor as well. As a bonus, none of his songs get blocked or copyright claimed.

Am I interested in space? Out my window I see Launch Pad 39A 12 miles to the east from which Apollo 11, the first mission to land to the moon, was launched in July of 1969, so what do you think. :D

    A little boat trip.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
    A problem with some ants
    Them! (1954)
I know it a bit early but save for around Christmas

Peter Schilling wrote a sequel to the song you should listen to, Major Tom (Coming Home). David did a sequel but it does do just and is really weird. While Peter Schilling did just to the original.

Space Race! between the USA and the old Soviet Union was started in the 1950's and culminated when the USA was first to put a man on the moon. Spanned for 25 years where anything & everything was consumed regarding the space race. Many songs were launched during these years...this is one of my favorites!!! Thank you for playing & reacting. PS: Suggest you mark down '2001 Space Odyssey" as a future moivie reaction. BONUS Special, suggest listening to Chris Hadfield's tribute to David Bowie, he sings this song from the space station! th-cam.com/video/KaOC9danxNo/w-d-xo.html

A suggestion: Don’t read about a song until AFTER you listen to it. Think about how you listen to today’s music. You probably don’t research the history of the band and read about the songwriter’s motivation before you listen to a song that was released this year.
