A brilliant arranger and a glorious performer. Diane Bish sets fearless and amazing tempi in the fugues. What a gift to music lovers everywhere.
    Bach would've been (is) proud.
And let me tell you, there is nothing that can compare to playing a pipe organ and throwing open all the pipes and feeling your sternum vibrate as you are surrounded by and riding a sound like no other.

The name Diane Bish was familiar to me but until this week I had not heard her play. Her playing is exceptional. It's exciting and spirited and yes her tempi are breathtaking. Because the recording is clean and I can hear the notes played and I don't feel the musicality is compromised, I enjoy it. I'm becoming a big fan.

This woman is amazing. It's like the instrument was built for her.

In fairness, she did design the instrument she’s playing on! (Ruffatti at coral ridge Presbyterian church, Florida)

Diane Bish is a superb exponent of the organ, and someone who has worked hard all her life to bring it people, as well as being extremely accomplished as an organist. For people who know of her, she is much loved with her sparkly clothing, coiffed hair and her Florida look, let alone her regular TV series in the 90s which was not so well known, but adored by people who came across it or were interested to begin with.
But...LOL what the hell is with the 1990s fax machine noise at the start of this video? Is it like a 1990s version of the future minus the internet?

HOLY SHIT!! I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS ON PUBLIC ACCESS! This mind you was over 20 years ago and just turned into a teenager. I attempted several times to find this, I called the public access channel.. No luck. Then it just shows up in my feed one day after thinking about this exact song being played?

MS Bish...Have loved JS Bach ever since I first heard his music...and you do a good job playing some of his works...but...as I have said before...a bit too fast...otherwise, love your "Joy of Music" videos...first saw you on TV on Sundays. Before that I was a choirboy (Episcopal), then in Concert Choirs, then Barbershop styles too...LOVE GOOD MUSIC, particularly the baroque style on the pipe Organ...learned that too, but haven't played in years...and now my voice is gone (I'm an Octogenarian)...can still listen though...

I would enjoy these preludes and fugues even more if Ms. Bish didn’t race through them.

Why do you say she's "racing" through them? She of all musicians has thoroughly studied these composers, and surely after all these years, she should know the proper tempos. I'm not saying professionals always get it right, but, since I don't know your qualifications to judge the tempo, I would tend to trust her to play at the proper, intended tempo. Certainly they're faster than many others play them.

I recently read a quote by Johann Christian Bach in which he said his Father, Johann Sebastian, played his own works with dignity and slower than one might expect. As for Diane Bish I admire her flawless technical ability. However, in my humble opinion , she has a tendency to race through pieces just because she can, almost with a certain impatience.

Well this was in television network probably had a limited amount of time of programming to meet the 30 min quota. Probably if the internet existed back then she probably would have played more slowly.

Couldn’t agree more, Bish seems to hurtle through these works just because she can, the sin of pride. I feel very little reverence for the composer in her mechanical performances, all skill and no heart.

Nasty TV trick, speed up film for time slot. At 80% she is beautiful, speaking parts correct and it sounds like her recordings. For shame.
