You might not have liked Mari much in this ep, but I will give her props for not letting anyone--not Chat Noir, not casual observers, or even the mass media--pressure her into a relationship she didn't want and for setting some reasonable ground rules for her interactions with Chat Noir. Adrien came dangerously close to "nice guy" territory, albeit unintentionally, by implying she didn't know what was good for her. The love confession rehearsal scene was one of the best scripted character interactions I've seen in this show. Someone could come up on this scene, not knowing anything else about the series, and feel the emotion and the tension just below the surface. I could easily see drama students adapting it as a practice exercise.
The way she treated Chat noir so harshly and insensitive isn’t the right thing to do either. She is a hypocrite for making him feel bad about his love for her, since she was quite forcing her love on adrien as well a couple of times, setting up uncalled dates without even asking him if he wants to go on a date with her. She was annoying asf in this episode.
"Glaciator" in season 2 was the Marichat show 'par excellence,' so it made sense that "Glaciator 2" was another Marichat heavy installment. It felt as if they were giving this one touches of 'Pygmalion' / 'My Fair Lady' ... or was it 'Cyrano de Bergerac'?!?! 4:52 One has to wonder how Alya got all these pictures of apparently intimate moments between Ladybug and Cat Noir. Aside from the full-on kiss in "Oblivio," she wasn't present to witness any of them, let alone take such close-up photographs! 12:32 "Buttercup" - if only he knew that this was the code name for him (Adrien) conceived by Marinette and Alya in "Gigantitan." 20:15 They melted him in the original "Glaciator" as well. Clearly, the akuma transformed him only superficially, by surrounding his body with the Stay Puft ice cream.... 24:36 Ladrien always tends to get short shrift, but of the four ships, it's the only one in which there's no real struggle to be had. It would be all too easy for them to throw themselves at each other and declare their feelings; however, Ladybug's inner Marinette tends to show when she speaks to him, and Adrien himself gets a little awkward around her. We probably shouldn't forget "Desperada" for that matter: a Ladrien encounter that proved disastrous insofar as Ladybug kept losing and Adrien kept watching her being lost, for months. Perhaps they, or the creators, or both, don't want to risk opening up those old wounds? That having been said... just you wait, Kait, just you wait. Ladrien content is very nearby!
