My grandma from Boca Raton made a similar tea. She used more tea and less fresh squeezed orange and lemon juice. Reminds me of sitting on the lanai in the 1960s with all her lady friends. Such a fun time to be a kid. ❤

This was fun. My Grandmother would have loved this episode. She was a Lady who lunched and entertained in the post ww2 era. 1945-1970. She was often listed in the social section of our City paper. I have a few of her glassware sets and serving platters and cherish them all. Thanks Anna.

Oh my gosh! My step mom collected everything with owls on it and she had those owl glasses! My brother and I once counted her owls and objects with owls on them and there were over 300 owl items in the house. Statues, nick nacks, towels, plates, glasses, photos, aprons, tables, napkins, coasters, you name it,she had it!

Susan is a Good Housekeeping character. There were cooking series called, “Susan our new bride” and “Susan our beginning cook” that gave very good directions with pictures. I have a vintage rhubarb plant, and think I'll use that (in compote form) to make the raspberry frost. Seriously, this rhubarb was planted by the parents of my 90-yr old landlady. She loved rhubarb sorbet last year, she'll probably like a rhubarb frost, too. ❤

Cranberry juice was a big deal on the 50s. I was born in 1954 and I remember my material grandmother drinking cranberry juice and grapefruit juice in a variety of concoctions. My mother told me once that the 50s was the first time "normal" folks had disposal incomes and a lot of the cookbooks and magazines of that time shows that want of "fancy" foods. Like the juices, it was the first time regular people could afford fruit out of season so then companies, of course, started offering them bottled or canned to the masses. I know it must be so strange for a young person to imagine grocery stores not having orange juice year round. I am loving your channel, for me, it brings back some fond memories. 👵
Edit~ the reason I remember my grandmother drinking those juices was like most kids, I wanted sip of granny's drink. I was always sorry, but never learned my lesson. 😖 sour!

Yay! You did the beverages! You are awesome!
First off: I lived in Tampa for 20 years, and I never saw Tampa tea or heard people talk about it. I feel like Tampa cheated me. 😊
Second: My mother-in-law made cranberry sherbet for every Thanksgiving, but she and I were the only ones excited about it. When she passed away, the rest of the family decided that it wasn’t what people wanted. I very sadly said, “Okay.” One year I said, “Get me the recipe, and I will make it.” The response was, “Mom didn’t have a recipe. She just made it.” Again, I very sadly said, “Okay.” Definitely give it a try. Those were some great memories-bonding with mothers-in-law is both rare and priceless.

Funny that you mention Five Alive! This week I've been mixing orange juice, grapefruit juice, and frozen limeade concentrate to drink at work, and I think of it as "Five Alive Minus Two". I found the orange juice at 99 cents for a quart, the grapefruit juice was 57 cents for a quart, and the can of limeade concentrate was marked down 43% to $1.88, so I should really think of it as "Inflation-Buster Punch"!
My summer drink selections don't go so far back as the 1950s, but they HAVE made quite a few trips around the sun. First, I compulsively brew sun tea in a glass former peanut butter jar, set inside a car on a hot day. I let it cool overnight, and then it's a perfect drinking temperature for breakfast and lunch. My favorite summer blender drink is simply Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream and buttermilk. My favorite summer store-bought drink is Dr. Pepper, just not in cans, that has been stored at the ideal soda pop temperature in my basement. And my favorite summer go-out-for-something-fancy drink is a Sonic "Real Fruit" lime slushie.

This makes me so nostalgic for my mom's bridge and golf luncheons. I've never heard of Tampa Tea but the Raspberry Frost is bringing back some memories. We've lost so much of the entertaining that we used to do. It was de rigueur to have a punch bowl and a silver tea and coffee set. I still have all of that but only because I love 1930's display cabinets and dry bars. Thanks, I love your videos.

With the second recipe, the reason it says to stir the sugar until dissolved is because at that point, the sugar has been added to hot liquid, and sugar dissolves readily in hot liquids. With the addition of cold liquids and ice, and undissolved sugar is likely to stay that way (leading to sugar sludge in the bottom of the pitcher/drinkware, and a less-sweet final product, since some of the sugar is sitting at the bottom.)
Love, love, love this episode. And how cool that you have that glass from your great-great grandmother.

When I was very little, in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s, paper straws were all there was, although they WERE coated in Wax to last through your use. My Aunt would come each Summer weekend from Northern New Jersey to stay at my Grandma’s to go to the Beach. Grandma would make “Punch” for us to take to the Beach and always put in Pineapple juice. Even though Aunt always included my brother & me, I felt she was using Grandma & Pop as she hardly ever visited after the Summer Season was over. I’m going to have to make these for some Fun this Summer!

Your vintage glassware is fabulous! I especially liked the owl glass. We have a couple glasses left from a set my mom bought in the late 60s that have pictures of vintage cars. And I located a set of orange juice glasses just like the ones my grandma had in her new kitchen in 1962.

I grew up in the Tampa Bay area during the 50's and 60's. I can't recall "Tampa Tea" being a thing. Our fridge was always stocked with iced tea and orange juice, but it never occurred to us to combine them! I rather suspect that GH made up the name to reflect that the recipe included Florida's signature beverage - in the same way that recipes with pineapple were often called Hawaiian regardless of their origins.

My Mother made Ruby Fruit Punch. She would freeze the punch ingredients in ice cube trays. The cubes would be placed in individual glasses then the glasses would be filled with ginger ale or lemon-lime soda. So delicious!

What a great episode. I remember we used to have lots of fruity drinks when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. My mom had a lot of those little recipe booklets with all kinds of good recipes in them. I used to love Five Alive years ago. I havent even thought about that for years. I can even remember the song from the tv commercial for it. You brought back some great memories for me today - thank you dear 🌸💚🌸💚🌸💚🌸

The restaurant chain McAlister's Deli and Cafe offers the option of adding a fruit juice shot to their iced tea: peach, black cherry, or strawberry. The iced tea with a peach shot is delicious and would be easy to replicate at home: just make some iced tea and add some peach nectar to it. The latter can be found in most grocery stores. I have to watch my sugar intake, so another one of my favorite iced tea hacks is to dissolve a packet of Propel sugar free sports drink powder in it. The Orange Raspberry and Raspberry Lemonade flavors are especially tasty in iced tea.

The fruit juice and iced tea mixes remind me of the tea punches I used to make for summer tea parties; one part each of iced tea, fruit juice (I like pomegranate or cherry because it makes the punch a beautiful red color) and chilled carbonated or mineral water. The water and tea dilute the fruit sugar in the juice so it's not so bad for your dietary sugar intake (I am diabetic so I also have to watch my blood sugar) and it doesn't involve sugar free sweeteners (most of which upset my stomach). I like to use lemon or lime-flavored unsweetened carbonated water for this. So refreshing!

When I worked at McDonald’s in high school I would put the vanilla soft serve ice cream in a cup & add orange juice. Mix it up slightly. It almost tastes like an orange julius.
