Remember my mom taking me to bellvue! I'm from America! But my mom is from England! Loved going back to my second home ! Speedway is the best ! Wish we had it here in 🇺🇸 ! The noise the smell nothing better ! Love it till this day ! 😮😮
I remember a few packed crowds from my childhood. And one from my adulthood. They were all big events at King's Lynn, the last of which being the SWC in 2011. But even then, I'm sure the numbers weren't even close to this.
Boy am I glad there’s so much of this available to watch. Yeah sure it may be getting on to 50 years ago but I find it so much more exciting to watch than what we get to see now, sorry.
I was a Teesside Tigers and Cradley Heath fan. Loved Frank Auffret and Bernie Persson, both all out action style riders and great entertainers. Great days
@wilo1955 shut up you cock womble. 6 world titles ,3 long track world titles. They ain't win from the gate. He could go from last to first in 1 lap. You obviously don't no shit about speedway
Chris Pusey also not qualifying? So many amazing riders. And incredible each race so many upsets !!! Out of interest what was your team. Thanks again for the upload.

Them were the days, not one start at that meeting would be accepted these days, but the racing seemed tighter and Dave Lannings comments on Ivan Mauger not putting his foot down was interesting because, as I understood it, not putting your foot down in the style of 'leg trailing' was the norm and I think it was Chris Morton in the late 70's early 80's who was so small hardly ever put his foot down and of course riders today like Smarzlic don't either. Back then, to Dave Lanning it seemed like magic and earned his comments.
What I notice watching the racing is how much 'drive' the bikes have round the corners, compared to these days; a lot to do with the shallow tread on the tyres today.
Sadly the dull commentary exploits Dave Lanning for what he was Billy Saunders lol it is SANDERS and he was overly friendly to MAUGER he even miss pronounced his name The guy was a bad biased commentator who would not get the job today

You can't even start to believe how many people would go to watch this marvelous sport back in the day

I believe, because I'm from Poland:)

Terry Betts, my all time favourite King’s Lynn star Great racer, remember the days when we had Simmons Jessup and Betts At saddlebow Road
I was a Teesside Tigers and Cradley Heath fan. Loved Frank Auffret and Bernie Persson, both all out action style riders and great entertainers. Great days
Those 2 valvers shift! Incredible racing, far better than today,I was only 1 years old here!!
Wow listen to those two valve Jawa engines and no silences either, great memories.
Straight through exhaust pipe, lovely sound of the old bikes ♣️🏁
I'm only a girl so I could be wrong - but wasn't there a time when there was just Jawa and Westlake?
@@SuzyQ334 yes from 1975 when Weslakes first appeared
Methanol and str8 through pipes lovely combination lol

Yes definitely. some many great British riders golden era. The crowds etc. I don’t know how we got in such a mess. Very sad
I guess you could say they were professional riders or just had the knack, just floating the left foot
Good meeting. Bring coventry bees .
Thank god they get warnings now at the gate .
Much better than today there’s to much messing around at the tapes and note no softy air fence
Get the support at Codsall
wow,"tiger" louis!
Wow fifty years ago
i used to hate coventry for the big meetings. you could only go round the inside.
The 70s.....the halcyon days......
What I notice watching the racing is how much 'drive' the bikes have round the corners, compared to these days; a lot to do with the shallow tread on the tyres today.
Hey dave if you enjoyed this dont miss my other video on my channel of the 76 intercontinental final at wembley ....that one is special ...
They are really driving, incredible speed around those turns in comparison to today
I notice how Agile Bikes are thesedays, same as i Moto GP etc
swannsong year for bettsy, got to his first world final at age 31but plain for all to see his lost interest
One thing I do not like about modern speedway is all the hand touching/congratulating between riders after races. When did that crap creep in?
look at that 0 safety fences but im happy they have them
a gigantic turnout compared to what we have today, what's wrong with today's people that they no longer give a damn?
Unfortunately, It is a totally different World we're currently living in Christum.
heat 13 elastic tapes or what??? the battle of the boococks , always considered nigel under rated of the 2 ,
Was going speedway in the 60s, Hackney Hawks. Big Colin Pratt and Bengt Jannsen fan. Loved Nigel Boocock coming to visit in his blue leathers!
Loved to watch nigel riding for us at bristol, along with some great riders.😊
Halcyon days, Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Barry Briggs, Peter Collins and many more. Still smell the methanol
The racing was just as I always remembered it at Coventry...crap...
Hugely indisciplined starts. How many world titles would Mauger have won under modern starting rules?
"please stay still at the start lads"
English speedway falled the highest level is in poland
Nah you guys are to easily forgotten 😂
Sadly the dull commentary exploits Dave Lanning for what he was Billy Saunders lol it is SANDERS and he was overly friendly to MAUGER he even miss pronounced his name
