Loved seeing the behind the scenes to getting this enclosure setup! It was so nice to see these turtles enjoying their enclosure during our visit for the build off challenge! 🐢
Seeing those turtles brings back lots of memories from rescuing painted turtles. I’ll always remember Tiny who was just a baby I found on top of the ice while the lake was still half covered. We warmed her up and she became a beloved pet.
@@kimdenny7978 we mainly had painted turtles at our cabin where this happened. One year we had a clutch of snapping turtles laid in our yard but the hatched and were able to get into the water by themselves safely. We only helped when they couldn’t help themselves
my turtle is also named Tiny! Well I have three, Tiny, Extra Tiny and Spotty. I named them when I was very young because Tiny and Extra Tiny are the same size and Spotty has no spots...
kind of funny hearing that Emily wants all the tannins out of the water. I used to breed betta fish and tannins helped encourage breeding behavior because it mimicked their natural spawning sites.
@@brandi3981 I don't think that tannins would make the turtles breed as they aren't breathing the water which is why it affects fish and make bettas breed
The tannins have good antifungal and antimicrobial properties, youll often find that blackwater is actually cleaner than many clear looking setups. I use alder cones to add tannins when I'm doing a blackwater setup and personally it looks a lot prettier
Yeah as a fish keeper I love the look of Blackwater biomes! And they're healthier too. I was like "noo all the lovely tannins, they make the water smell so good D:" But I can see how it would be pretty inconvenient for a zoo display tank lol, they want the water to be clear so people can see the turtles better.
well, Chloe was moved to the facility, not to the zoo :) The Zoo is included in the facility just like the store, the Classroom, the breeding areas. So she was not disrespected, no worries :) Otherwise, a lot of snakes would feel disrespected too :D
Hey, Emily and Ed! Just wanted to say that I bought an Eeveelution tank top from you guys recently and it *wildly* exceeded my expectations! Seriously, the pictures on the store site do not do the print justice-the fact that each snake has its type on its head stamp was a tiny detail, but one that I absolutely loved! The quality was also very good; the print was super bright and thick, almost rubbery, and I doubt it’ll wash off any time soon. Needless to say I’ll *definitely* be buying another shirt from you guys in the near future!
im still worried about the turtles- mainly worried about turtle snatchers- but aslong as there is a member of staff there 24/7 it eases my stress a bit. love the tank though!
While waiting for this video i watch the one from Luke, the 9 yo boy who sold you the lovely mantises, when he came to visit the facility with his parents. The joy on his face was so great to see, in particular when you put Cheyenne on his arm....and it was just part one 😄
To see the turtle's exhibit go from a blank space to a testudine paradise was amazing! I'm sure they'll all be happy with all that room to swim and bask. Great job❣
That set up looks so wonderful for all of them! Though I must admit I think it’s very funny that as soon as you walk in the zoo, you see the big Snake Discovery sign, but the first animals you see… are turtles! 😂
must be an unofficial turtle/tortoise day since i just watched Kamp Kenan's video on his tortoises and turtles (including babies!!!) loving it! and i'm glad the turtles love their new home!
They stated in a couple of their live stream videos for grand opening that there will be someone watching the pond/tank as a precaution. I'm sure given their care of their animals that if it does became a problem, or they suspect that it might they will address it.

To prevent the turtles from demolishing any plants they grow they could grow a couple baskets and rotate them between the main pond and a smaller one in the back.
Emily and Ed, how did you prevent your turtles from eating the vegetation? I have an older red eared slider, who will eat any plant we put in his enclosure, and has even tried eating plastic plants.
I personally think it’s fine if they eat the plants under 2 conditions… as long as you still OFFER them food and as long as the plants are a safe type for the turtle…
You might try adding bentonite clay to the water to reduce tannins and odors. I know it is used in wine as fining agent, to reduce tannins in white wines. I am not sure the effect it would have on turtles however, but bentonite is a naturally occurring mineral clay.

That does make me wonder though, where is your third stink pot? Did they pass away? As for your new map turtle... would you be naming him soon? Might I recommend Sheldon?
@@kleague41 Chloe originally lived in one of the two aquariums, the one the stinkpots just came out of. They moved her up from that into the horse trough she lives in now, albeit it was in Rex's room.

When they first showed it, empty and without it in the zoo even (maybe at the trip to universal rocks) I thought the shape was really strange and it looked small, but seeing it set up and with the turtles in it I think it works great :)
Can you a do an ultimate snake video tutorial? Basically from someone who thinks that corn snakes eat corn to someone who has all the knowledge to give his snake a happy life. Obviously a lot of your videos are about snake care so you can just say something like "if your snake has mites go watch this video". I think that having a one larger video covering the most important information would be extremely helpful. Btw i am forever grateful for all the amazing work you do for the reptile community.
It's been so amazing watching the progress of your dream coming true! I'm so excited to see the first reptiles in the zoo and can't wait to who else will be joining! Watching this journey has really inspired and motivated me to continue working toward my goal of opening a rescue/zoo for reptiles, fish, and other exotic animals that might not have anywhere else to go. There aren't too many places like that near me and it's been a dream of mine for 10+ years now. Absolutely love what you lovely people are doing ❤
oh I love their little pond! It looks just like their natural habitat. As far as cohabbing turtles, I'm almost positive I've seen major, well-recognized aquariums keep multiple species that would encounter each other in the wild together, so I don't think anyone would bat an eye.

Go back and watch their Grand Opening live streams and the build off. The turtles were IN THE ZOO in the build off videos. ALL OF THE ANIMALS are in the zoo and it is now open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 8pm.
I was really looking forward to seeing the turtles put into their new environment! It was wonderful! All your hard work is paying off and the Zoo looks amazing! Now to see Rex in her new tank!

But tannins also make is harder to see into the tank and they are a zoo after all, you have to be able to see into the tank clearly.

Tip for washing; if you wash it inside out, only on cold, and hang dry you can keep prints on shirts from fading/washing off

Maybe it's a species specific thing (Emily's turtles are map,painted,musk and softshell turtles) ?
as far as i saw, they put in fake plants :)

they have tried to breed the stinkpots i know, it just hasn't happened. Mitchel might be too stunted...
I think they are trying but all they got so far was an infertile egg

I think Mitchell is too small and stunted to breed, and they only got infertile eggs from the stinkpots

My dad says consider a diatomaceous earth water polisher (aquarium) for periodic or quick clearing cloudy or tanin coloured water.

@@ElfsArt24 No. You're 100% wrong. They just had the ZOO'S grand opening over the holiday weekend. This video was filmed weeks ago. Go back and watch their Grand Opening live streams and the build off. The turtles were IN THE ZOO in the build off videos.
ALL OF THE ANIMALS are in the zoo and it is now open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 8pm.

I love how much thought you guys give to the happiness of each and every animal. You went the extra mile to make sure all of the turtles had their needs met and that is just standard for animals in your care. It really fills me with joy whenever I see you interacting with/providing for your animals because it is so clear how much you genuinely care about each individual’s wellbeing.
