Dame is doing this w/ 3 yrs left on a deal. He's treating this like he's a FA that didn't just sign a deal. A lot of those other players just said they wouldn't resign when their deal was up. I dont recall others saying they wouldn't play or suggesting they'd make an effort to be unhappy unless they went to one specific team. At some point the NBA had to say something KD, Harden, Ky, Simmons took it too far these last 2 yrs.
the issue here is that apparently Dame's agent was telling other teams: if they trade for him they'll trade for an unhappy player. Same what happen with the Mavs last season when Kidd said publicly that they will tank last games to get better lottery pick. Every season is obvious which team(s) are tanking, but no one says it. That's the reason NBA stepped in.

Mike. The Chris Paul trade story is different from what I heard. At the time the NBA owned the hornets and wanted to sell it. But it was difficult. They were struggling with attendance and sells. The only assets they had was Chris Paul so they stopped the trade, in order to get the most money for the team.
They traded him to the clippers right after dog. It was about the Lakers running it for the next 5 years. Plus they thought Blake was going to be the face of the league and nobody was going to the Clips
NBA ain't tampering. The NBA was probably tired of players signing the supermax and asking out the next year, the supermax's purpose was so small market teams could retain their star player, but if players just sign and dip the next year, then it's not serving it's purpose. Great vid as always! But, I’m with Dame on this one ngl Plus, I still feel like the NBA did CP3 dirty when they denied him his trade to the Lakers too. Now look at him
There should be a rule that you lose a year off your current contract if you demand a trade and then get traded. That would nullify players resigning with their current team and then asking for a trade shortly after signing.
@@Chucked-st1cgdid u watch the video that’s what he saying the nba owned the hornets so that’s why they could do it the hornets had no owner at the time
I normally side with the players, but the league is right on this. Dame cant force PDX to accept a trade they don't agree with just because he waited too long to request a trade. He should have requested a trade at the end of the season and he'd be in another city by now.
It's looking more likely that Lillard will be playing for Portland and the beginning of the the season. Cause until we hear of Miami getting a third or fourth team involved, he is going to stat put there. Also his agent's comments have not done him any favors what so ever.
They can but it’s bad for them cause all their good players are young guards who can’t get playing time or the ball until he’s moved. Plus u want to take the assets u get from him and integrate them asap. So they are really only hurting themselves and the heat I mean dame has been there 11 years and made like half a billion plus he’s not so old that 1/2-1 more seasons ruins him he has waited 11 years already.
If Damian isn't traded to the heat. Portland will be a no go zone for players and the players will never want to play there on any level. the team will become like the way the knicks were.
League just did what Portland asked them to do. Doesn't change anything. No one is outbidding Miami to take on a problem. As long as Dame is focused on Miami no matter what, then he'll win in the end. Miami has the patience to play along.
"No one is outbidding Miami" just blatantly ignoring Dame telling those teams he won't play. Every single team that was originally interest can outbid Miami easily.
@@crazekananas Nothing has changed. No one is offering more than Miami to take on a problem. Dame is a 33 y/o man with a half billion dollars. He made it clear, Miami or bust.

The Blazers are not in the donation business. We all wish Dame the best. We would love to see the Miami thing work out. The issue though is that Miami has to come up with a way to provide a reasonable level of value. That is unlikely. It is too bad, but that is the business of basketball. So many people seem to want to make this about feelings. This is about business.
I think Dame did this to himself. He shouldn’t have signed the extension with Portland and then he could’ve left in free agency. It’s not like he doesn’t have a no trade clause either. Portland has all the leverage and there are other teams that can offer more than Miami. He ain’t going there, he screwed himself.
If I were Adam Silver I'd be careful about pushing this issue too far. North American sports teams only function as they do because of exemptions to the Anti-Trust Laws. If the NBA tried to start dictating where players could and could not go under the pretence of 'fair value', I think Lillard or the Heat would be within their rights to test that position as an over-reach of the League's powers. The NBPLA should be all over this backing Lillard and it's telling of how competent their leadership is that they've been as quiet as church mice. The idea of sending someone to a destination thousands of miles away that they don't want to go to looks bizarre from the view of any non-American sport.
This is not about the NBA wanting to dictate where players go, it is about the fact that it is up to Portland to decide what a fair offer for Dame is, they have absolutely no obligation to trade him unless they get fair compensation and any trade with the Heat that does not include BAM is not fair compensation. Dame is also not innocent in this at all, he had several chances to sign shorter deals, but he decided to sign the Supermax and that comes with a cost, which means that dame can not decide where he wants to play, he gave up that leverage by signing the supermax. You simply can not have a Supermax and expect to have freedom of movement on top of it, and dame knew that when he signed the contract. FA exists for a reason and is the way how players can decide their own faith, but lillard sold that right for around 100+mil, if you never enter FA it is only your own fault.
And the Heat would LOSE that argument because Dame signed a supermax NBA contract that ends in 2026 and he doesn't have any player option for two years. NBA contracts are legal binding documents that hold up in court. So Heat and Dame would LOSE handily! Dame goes where Portland wants him to go or he is in violation of his NBA contract meaning his salary could be revoked if he pushes this too far.
I agree to a certain extend nobody knows what’s the package. I agree if the heat are low balling me as a heat fan don’t agree we should be lowballing. But the media out here acting like the heat don’t have enough to make a trade which to me is BS.
I think it's completely crazy and just ridiculous how they can resign for all this extra money and then try and force their way out to a team of their choices one year of that contract could take care of a huge apartment complex rent free
I think Dame went about this a bit emotionally and unintelligently. Weve seen other dudes bulldozing their way out of teams and getting their way all the time, difference is, Dame has very little bargaining chips here. He is too upfront for his own good and he made the mistake of thinking that Portlands front office would just accomodate him out of pure good will. Dame made this in a way that forces both the Blazers and the league to deny him out of principle. Theres a huge difference when you keep things private and work them out even if the player is being a bit unreasonable, and a player oppenly trying to strong arm the system.
Dame was loyal to the Blazers all the way until Portland gave Grant the worst contract in the league, and they did it just so Dame would ask for a trade. He *deserves* to demand his destination
Dame is in no position to dictate anything he signed a supermax extension that ends in 2026 meaning he doesn't have a player option for at least two more seasons. Portland is looking for the best trade value for Dame and Miami ain't it unless they are prepared to trade BOTH Tyler Herro AND Bam Adebayo for Lillard. Anything less means Portland will shop him around to get the best trade value for him and there is nothing Dame can do about it!
They need to stop letting these players go where they want to go. They either get traded to whatever team is available or stay where they at . I've played basketball every since I was a kid and enjoyed it.but as a fan I don't even care to watch these rich cry babies.
The only thing is, the last Portland Gm constantly said that it was not a roster issue, as he traded for old as players and he got no help. Didn't he sign the deal with that gm and not this new guy?
A three team trade involving the nets, heat, and blazers makes the most sense to get dame to miami This is what it would most likely look like: Heat get: Damian lillard Blazers get: Nikola jovic + Ben Simmons Nets get: Tyler herro
Ppl keep saying Damian is one of the “loyal” players. He was loyal to getting a super max contract before demanding a trade. He’s not doing free charity work. He’s already overpaid.
Put in what? 8-9 yrs before that supermax? Wasn't loyal then? Could have went anywhere. This situation is like an onion and people think they know some special shit cuz the took off one outer layer.
I know exactly what u mean Mike. Cali is very liberal I lived in San Deigo for most my young life. Thankfully I moved down south and never looked back!
I like how this commissioner can discipline someone for choosing a team to trade to but doesn't have the balls to actually do something more serious about what jamorant has done.
To me it is this, if you request a trade don't be unhappy when the team you are traded to, the only time that us possible is when a player has a no trade clause like Bradley beal
I get the frustration with Dame wanting to only go to Miami. But I think people forget that Portland has gaslit Dame for the last 2-3 years. He has been loyal to this small market team, all he asked was that they try to build a contender around him. They then sold several of their good pieces for younger pieces/picks, all while still assuring Dame that they're trying to be competitive. Then when they had the assets to make moves for a piece to put them closer to contention, they didn't. They lied to him to fill seats in their stadium. Because of Cronin's manipulation, he is now at the tail end of his prime, and has every right to demand a trade to the team of his choice where he will actually have a chance to seriously contribute and contend for a championship. And for all the blazer fans crying about them not getting a return for their franchise corner stone, you literally got one in Scoot. I didn’t have an issue w Dame going to Miami UNTIL his agent opened his big mouth and began threatening other teams w an unhappy Dame if they traded for him. At that point I’d want him anywhere BUT the Heat because first off there are better offers from other teams and Miami isn’t the only contender in the NBA. Honestly both sides are kind of in the wrong here. On one hand, Lillard couldve walked out of Portland in FA but he wanted to get the bag and still trusted Portland to build a contending team around him. Ok i get the NBA doesnt want to build super teams anymore, but they are ok with names like Lebron, KD, and Harden forming them almost every year it feels like. Miami isnt really a super team i guess Jimmy and Bam are all star players, but i think the rest of the roster were second round and undrafted dudes. Idk its wild just get the trade over with and move on. They really making a big deal over nothing.
Or maybe the NBA wants teams and players to honor the super max deals. The point is to KEEP players at these markets/teams, especially small markets like Portland and all these players even not named Harden, KD, and Bron keep leaving right after signing them. It defeats the whole purpose, not to mention Dame agent telling teams don't trade for him he's going to be unhappy. I feel the NBA because I'm tired of this Heat or nobody shit too. Stop signing these supermax deals if you're going just jump and leave in a year or two when things are not right. Been there 10 damn years and Portland never got him help what made him think he was going to get it after that signing smh
Yeah well from all the guy who have requested to a specific team i feel like Dame‘ s still the most deserving of having this choice. As Mike said the Blazers let the whole thing drag out for way too long. They already have a bunch of assets plus they won’t receive complete trash for him from Miami. Treat the man with dignity and respect for all he offered you and take the L ffs.
The league doesn’t want a Denver vs Miami rematch in the Finals, and that’s exactly what would happen if the trade went through. It’s been obvious since the beginning that the lack of action was completely unnatural.
The lawyer in me has one question. Will the NBA intervene with discipline when a player or agent “makes” the same comments or will the NBA intervene with discipline when the player actually sits out? Those two aren’t the same thing.

Why didn’t Lillard get a no trade clause. He must have really thought 💭 he was never leaving Portland. The trailblazers have all the leverage. Dame they want what the nets got for KD. Or the jazz got for Gobert which will never happen. Because that was the dumbest trade in Nba history.!! When the GM said if it takes months it takes months. I don’t know why they would do Dame like that but it really sucks.
I'd hate to see dame on the heat for the same reason most people would it'd be unstoppable, BUT dame has been nothing but faithful to Portland in a league where seemingly nobody is faithful to anything but themselves... He deserves to play wherever he wants in my opinion. He straight up was willing to be a blazer for life but he has had consistently shitty management with the blazers as far as bringing in competitive talent for a chip.
That's not how it works Dame signed a supermax extension meaning he doesn't have a player option for two years. There is no loyalty in sports since its a business.
If the NBA wants to fix this. they can simply make it a rule. players that signed a supermax, are Ineligible to be traded, until the last two seasons of that deal.
Why the hell should portland trade him to miami if that's not optimal for them? It's a business and lillard has made plenty of money. Stop whining. If you want total control over where you go, sign one year contracts. And please stop pretending winning is important for players nowadays. It's only grab as much money as you can. If anyone cared about winning the league would look totally different. Really, the league is in the worst shape since stern took over
I think the biggest factor in Adam Silver giving warning shots to Dame is specifically because he doesn't have a no trade clause, he's not supposed to force the Blazers to take a shitty deal like the Wizards had to do with Beal.
As long as the heat make the deal that the blazers agree to, I don't see the problem. After all, he is still under contract. So the blazers are actually holding the Ace card.

Portland fan here - Lillard asking out is fine. Saying he wants to play for a contender and even providing a list of preferred destinations is fine. Miami’s entire strategy for acquiring Lillard is based on getting him at a relative discount as a distressed asset. That’s a problem. Demanding a trade to Miami, a team that doesn’t have the assets to pull off a deal under normal circumstances, isn’t fine. It isn’t good for Portland and it isn’t good for the league. It’s in the league’s best interest to draw that line in the sand. An ideal scenario from my perspective as a Portland fan would be that Lillard backs off of his Miami or bust stance and provides a list instead. Portland gets fair value, Lillard gets to play for a contender. This isn’t 2k with trade override on.
Okay but wouldn’t Cronin and the NBA have the come into an agreement as to what a “fair” deal would be though? The Blazers could get pressured or bullied into taking a deal sooner rather than later and the NBA can say “no, none of this”. But also the NBA can say “we think this deal is good enough” but Cronin could say “nah, I want more”. It’s weird
One thing that gets overlooked in this senero is that the if Portland traded lillard and the hornets then drafted scoot, then they would have regretted the trade of lillard. Picking 3rd was a catch 22 from hell Tbf
I feel like what happened to KD will happen to Dame. KD wanted a trade during the off-season specifically suns or Heat but he didn’t get traded because the nets got greedy. Then the nets said “screw it” and accepted the suns trade mid season.
nah it was actually the Suns that didn't want to trade bridges but instead ayton. The new owner came in and dictated that trade and demanded to do whatever it takes to get durant
Agreed. Portland is in full rebuild mode; they're in no hurry. But Miami has a very short window due to Butler's age. They need to make a deal for someone asap. Brooklyn got a much better deal by waiting, although Dame is not nearly as valuable as Durant.
This is funny.....Dame can't tell the Blazers what and where to trade him. Dame is the one trying to sabatoge a trade to any team other than the heat. Blazers have all the leverage because of his long contract. If the Blazers don't get a good enough package they could just sit on him and tank for another high pick next year.
If you want to fine players for not wanting to play you have to fine these nba teams for wanting to tank also. Sitting star players out for whole games like they did dame last year
If Dame would have left in free agency Portland would have lost Dame for nothing. At least Dame is giving Portland a chance to get something back in return. If Portland wanted such a big haul for Dame they should've traded him 5 years ago. As good as Dame is he is 33 years old and owed a ton of money. Their aren't alot of teams willing to mortgage their futures on a player that will be making $60 million at the age of 37. It obvious Miami has the best offer because they seem to have the only offer
They should let this slide. The fact that LBJ is doing this every 3-4 years jumping around and recruiting 2 all star and yet they didn't do anything about it.

They traded him to the clippers right after dog. It was about the Lakers running it for the next 5 years. Plus they thought Blake was going to be the face of the league and nobody was going to the Clips
That’s cap he got traded to the clippers shortly after the lakers trade got vetoed 😂😂

Interesting… seems like the nba is tampering now. We gon take a second round pick from them?
NBA ain't tampering. The NBA was probably tired of players signing the supermax and asking out the next year, the supermax's purpose was so small market teams could retain their star player, but if players just sign and dip the next year, then it's not serving it's purpose. Durant went to the Warriors as a free agent, Dame is under contract until 2,026, Portland got all the time in the world to find an exceptional offer for Dame. Cause Herro ain't it.
NBA is trying to protect their brand, the NBA is already less popular in recent years due to stuff like this and politics

There should be a rule that you lose a year off your current contract if you demand a trade and then get traded. That would nullify players resigning with their current team and then asking for a trade shortly after signing.

Yep
They can but it’s bad for them cause all their good players are young guards who can’t get playing time or the ball until he’s moved. Plus u want to take the assets u get from him and integrate them asap. So they are really only hurting themselves and the heat I mean dame has been there 11 years and made like half a billion plus he’s not so old that 1/2-1 more seasons ruins him he has waited 11 years already.
The NBA doesn't like super teams unless it's one they favor... Phoenix literally just built one
If Damian isn't traded to the heat. Portland will be a no go zone for players and the players will never want to play there on any level. the team will become like the way the knicks were.
It’s already a no go zone lol. Tbh they couldn’t build any superstar around Dame. Now this shi.
@crazekananas What's that have to do with what I said? Obviously, if Dame was willing to go to other places, others could possibly outbid Miami.
@ryansproviero the NBA just addressed this whole situation, other teams I'm sure are already preparing offers.

This trade is being sabotage by the blazers
Yo what's up with the brit or bar mitzvah fit 😂😂😂
I think Dame did this to himself. He shouldn’t have signed the extension with Portland and then he could’ve left in free agency. It’s not like he doesn’t have a no trade clause either. Portland has all the leverage and there are other teams that can offer more than Miami. He ain’t going there, he screwed himself.
Finally someone said it
He wasted all that time with the l0yalty nonsense. Now he's learning the lesson even the casual sport fan knew was coming
th-cam.com/video/byb70kb0TEU/w-d-xo.html
If any player in the NBA deserves the option to be traded to the team of their choice it's dame. They wasted him and failed him
There is no deserving in sports. Its a BUSINESS not a charity.
Players get sent to teams they don't like all the time. Just ask Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Sigh Gigli Alexander, etc
If a player wants to be traded on 1 team then void the contract, but that doesn't how contracts work.
Why Mike cleaning up now? Now I gotta start dressing up when I watch these😭 he looks fresh
I agree to a certain extend nobody knows what’s the package. I agree if the heat are low balling me as a heat fan don’t agree we should be lowballing. But the media out here acting like the heat don’t have enough to make a trade which to me is BS.
We could offer up Caleb Martin and they'll still call it a lowball offer.

But Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant did it wanted to go were they wanted to
Loyalty, loyalty loyalty! This is what he gets in return sealing the deal so that loyalty is no longer a thing

Heat get: Damian lillard
Blazers get: Nikola jovic + Ben Simmons
Nets get: Tyler herro

Precisely. Herro is not enough to get Lillard
And Sharpe has the potential to become one too, wtf are ya'll complaining about...

If he wants to go east you got Sixers, Bucks, Celtics, all contender. West he can try and join NBA champs Denver, Sacramento, Memphis.

I hope next CBA fix this issue where players don't respect contracts anymore which they've signed. No matter what he has to say he has signed on the dot and any team can have him fined for not playing for years if that's how he wants to play
I think it’s part of a bigger narrative. The NBA is trying to take some power back from the players & to set more realistic limits on player movement.
My only problem with this is they are now doing this with dame not the other superstars that have constantly been jumping around
@@brandoncaruso9276 Dame went way left with this one though, a year or two ago nobody would think he would pull this to this extent. All he had to say was "I want to be traded to a contender" instead he pulled "Trade me here or I'll just not play for anybody".

Ok i get the NBA doesnt want to build super teams anymore, but they are ok with names like Lebron, KD, and Harden forming them almost every year it feels like. Or maybe the NBA wants teams and players to honor the super max deals. The point is to KEEP players at these markets/teams, especially small markets like Portland and all these players even not named Harden, KD, and Bron keep leaving right after signing them. That's not how it works. Unless Miami is planning to trade Both Herro and Adebayo, NO DEAL.

Lillard has never been eligible to sign with a no trade clause.
That’s what happens when a player stays loyal to a business only league😢

Portland fan here -
Lillard asking out is fine.
