Putting Trump behind bars is not and never has been an option. Had it ever been an option he would have been put away long before now. What happens on Monday: 3-4 juries ask to be excused because they received threats over the weekend and Merchan decides to start over with a fully anonymous and sequestered jury because his entire panel has been compromised by medias blabbing about the jurors so much before the trial even started.

As a J.D., I fully support Bharara's point. Lawyers will likely have greater influence in deliberations. As a prospective law student, I served on a jury. After my academic intentions became public during voir dire, the other jurors appointed me as foreperson and looked to me for guidance during deliberations. It was uncomfortable then. It would be worse now after having completed law school.

Jurors are supposed to reflect a peer group of the accused. If you're going to have a janitor, a fireman, a PA, a nurse, a bar tender, a teacher etc. on there, why would you not have a lawyer or two on there? I'd hazard to say that lawyers perhaps should be counted as a true reflection of this criminal defendant's peer group. Ridiculous waffle.

The LAWYER in the jury must PRETEND that they are NOT lawyers. The must listen the representations of the witnesses on the basis of FACTS and must NOT analyse the representations based on the legal jurisdiction. The other 10 jurists are NOT lawyers. The will listen the representations of the based on the presentation of the facts and determine who is telling the TRUTH and who is LYING. While the Lawyers can judge the representations based on the legal jurisdiction which will be different than the other jurists. SO THE LAWYERS MUST PRETEND THAT THEY ARE NOT LAWYERS.

For what it’s worth, esteemed legal commentators like Neal Katyal, Andrew Weismann and Glen Kirschner have all noted that not only is it time to place trump behind bars for his persistent behaviour in disobeying the court’s orders on him but importantly that the Secret Service have the ability to deal with any potential issues. So, it would seem that it’s time to create the precedence and to place him behind bars.

Most people would defer to a lawyers opinion in a setting like this. I think its a bad idea to have any lawyers on a jury.
I like the point of lawyers in the jury & giving advice of clarity to others. I think the judge might have to say something, but then they of all people would know the consequences! For them & all/ everything

The solution to this dilemma is simple. In keeping with the overwhelming efforts to not offend, inconvenience, or otherwise act unfairly toward trump, simply put everyone else involved in the trial in jail to protect them from trump.
I agree. I had a friend that was a real-estate lawyer. I thought she might be able to advise me on a non-real-estate issue. She can help me; she is a friend and a lawyer..... right? She gave me the wrong advice, because that was not her specialty. It was a civil issue where later I found out I could have won about $40,000, but I got zero! I don't blame her, lesson learned. That is when I learned lawyers specialize, and just any lawyer may not know anything about your specific legal issue.

Regarding those saying that a former president can't be put in jail, countries with much more history than the U.S. (and perhaps more respect for the rule of law), have charged and imprisoned their former heads of state!
Deliberately excluding countries which may not be quite democratic, some former heads of state charged, convicted, and imprisoned just in the last 20 years include Jacques Chirac, former Prime Minister of France; Lee Wan-koo, former Prime Minister of South Korea; Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister of Israel; Silvio Berlusconi, former Prime Minister of Italy; José Sócrates, former Prime Minister of Portugal; Carlos Menem, former President of Argentina; and the list goes on! Follow the lead set by those and many, many other countries...hold everyone to the same standards!
