  • Episode 4 of Bass Tales features one of the most recorded bass players in the history of popular music, Nathan East!
    In today’s video Nathan talks us through his INCREDIBLE career, from his early days on the road with Barry White to hit songs with Eric Clapton.
    We also get the inside story of how his long lost P Bass - played on hits like ‘I Love LA’ by Randy Newman and ‘Family’ by Hubert Laws - disappeared over 35 years ago and was never seen or heard from again... until now.
    As always, see you in the shed…
    Scott :)

    To me the amazing thing about Nathan east is the razor's edge balance he achieves: He is so expressive & has so much facility but at the same time you never get the sense that's he too busy or not doing what the bass is supposed to be doing. That's kinda the name of the game & nobody does it better, IMO.

    Definitely one of the nicest guys I've ever met! I asked him to play a bass given to me by Sire at NAMM in 2016 to get his thoughts on it,and he actually took time to sit down,plug it into a rig and play it for about 15-20 min! Then he gave me his honest opinion about the instrument! Class guy all the way!

    • @jackieclark8253
      @jackieclark8253 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@fx_chris1884...When he finished playing it, I immediately asked him how much he thought the bass costs. His initial guess was $1800,since he’d seen Marcus’ name on it. I made him guess lower about 3 other times until he said, “this bass is not lower than $1000!” When I told him it was $399,he said “get the F outta here!” 😂
      He loved the feel,and playability immediately...thought the tuners were a lil cheesy(fair assessment),but overall felt it was as good as any instrument in a much higher price range.
      What told me he dug the bass more than anything was the fact he sat and played for at least 15 mins! No player of any caliber will spend that much time on an instrument they don’t like.

      @@Oneness100 I'm not saying it's right, but it makes sense when you think about it. Barry didn't want other labels/musicians sniping the talented people he pooled together away from him. Great video, Nathan is just such a warm genuine guy. I was grinning throughout the whole clip and that prototype yamaha is very cool. I would want it with the 70s J spacing though LOL
