Nathan is not only one of the most talented, skilled, requested, and recorded bassists in history, but he is also one of the nicest and humblest people on the planet!
@@sophiafakevirus-ro8cc Unless you've hung out with him in the studio, which I have, you don't have a clue. There are a lot of people who have their names on their license plates.
I had the good fortune to meet Nathan backstage at a Steely Dan concert. What a kind and generous soul. He even called me at home a couple of days later to invite me to a show. Total mensch.
To me the amazing thing about Nathan east is the razor's edge balance he achieves: He is so expressive & has so much facility but at the same time you never get the sense that's he too busy or not doing what the bass is supposed to be doing. That's kinda the name of the game & nobody does it better, IMO.
Definitely one of the nicest guys I've ever met! I asked him to play a bass given to me by Sire at NAMM in 2016 to get his thoughts on it,and he actually took time to sit down, plug it into a rig and play it for about 15-20 min! Then he gave me his honest opinion about the instrument! Class guy all the way!
@@fx_chris1884...When he finished playing it, I immediately asked him how much he thought the bass costs. His initial guess was $1800,since he’d seen Marcus’ name on it. I made him guess lower about 3 other times until he said, “this bass is not lower than $1000!” When I told him it was $399,he said “get the F outta here!” 😂 He loved the feel, and playability immediately...thought the tuners were a lil cheesy(fair assessment),but overall felt it was as good as any instrument in a much higher price range. What told me he dug the bass more than anything was the fact he sat and played for at least 15 mins! No player of any caliber will spend that much time on an instrument they don’t like.
He's totally right at the end. Scott is a complete badass for bringing all these amazing artists together and letting us hear their stories. Amazing stuff, and a total rockstar
I wish this guy was my buddy or neighbour - he seems like such a nice guy and a total legend on the bass. I'd never get bored hearing to his stories and listening to him play.
He is obviously a top player but that huge smile, his almost child like enthusiasm and love of music and his positive attitude is what lands him those gigs. His energy is undeniable. Sometimes being fun to be around is a huge asset, no matter how good you are at your craft.
When I get asked "who would you most like to emulate on bass", people are shocked when I say "Nathan East". He does it ALL. So tasty, so ACCURATE, every note is perfectly in the right place.
@@Oneness100 I'm not saying it's right, but it makes sense when you think about it. Barry didn't want other labels/musicians sniping the talented people he pooled together away from him. It sucks for the musicians that wanted recognition for their work, like Nathan, but that's just how he was.
Nathan is just so cool. I love how... no matter who he’s playing with... he always has this look on his face that says “this is so cool, I’m so happy to be here doing this”... that alone never gets old because it’s inspiring PLUS he’s absolutely a KILLER musician! The footloose bassline is my holy grail for the level of concentration, consistency and energy I want for myself when I play. This is amazing! Thankyou !
Absolutely fabulous. I've known the Nathan East name for years but I've never seen him in this way just talking and playing for us. What a nice and personable fellow. I could listen to him talk and play bass all day and I don't even play bass. I'm a 6 string Stratocaster Clapton devotee. You can just see the joy and love he brings to playing music. This was really fun so Thank You for putting it up. No wonder why Clapton has had him play for so many years.
Nathan is the proof that to play is not about technique and theory, is about feeling the song. He has such a talent and yet, his bass lines are so beautifully simple and right for the song.
Man, I wish we all smiled with the same joy as Nathan East. Seems like such a stand up, down to earth guy, and his playing speaks for itself. Mr East is a living legend, nobody comes close!
What an absolutely fantastic guy...extremely humble, honest and unaffected. I could listen to his stories and playing all day. Fantastic bass player too!!
Wow. This was fantastic. I’ve heard of him, but really knew nothing about him and certainly had never seen an interview. What a dude. Personality matches the level of his achievement, accomplishments, and contributions to musical history.
