You won’t be able to retain the haft because the wood can’t pass through. 8:19 you need to make or buy an $80 tool: a drawknife! :) Imagine all the time you would have saved if you hadn’t had to bevel, plane, and rasp those blanks- no tablesaw required and after all that there’s a good chance drawkniving would have been faster.
Did you watch all the way through? The end cap has a lag screw through it to retain the haft. I have several drawknives. It's easier for me to make something roughly cylindrical using the method I used.
