      @@canceroushit5933 You could, and that could work. But I almost would prefer another fresh new take. Wendy Carlos original was perfect for the original Tron. I was so happy that his corruption by Clu was overridden by Tron remembering who he was and who he fights for. But then it was bitter sweet when Clu knocked him out and Tron was falling to the bottom of the ocean, but it was amazing to see his original color scheme return. I just wish he was able to see Flynn again before he died.

I hated that Sam was able to take down CLU's men by himself on his ship and most of it was off screen. And it would have been cool to have TRON finally join them to fight back more than just finally reverting back. Although it was very cool to have him take out CLU temporarily.

      @bagelbramble7335 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @RJA
      @RJA ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bagelbramble7335I think the movie would have been better if Flynn's disc was the only way to open the portal (seemed like it was required anyway) The events could play out the same but with a larger fight against clue.
      Pacing wise I don't think it would be to big an issue, the movie starts pretty slow anyway, another half hour would have been fine.
      Also would have been nice to get more Tron scenes, have him team up with Sam+Flynn earlier rather than him just switching sides and dying instantly.

    You make a great point about Quora being a damsel in distress, however, the thing that sets her a part from other damsel in distresses/femme fatale is that she decided to be captured. Both Thanos and CLU and trapped by what they perceive as a binary outcome and forced to make only one of two choices (Either fulfill their purpose, or fail and have no purpose). It's rather brilliant to see the writers of CLU frame his entire purpose on a very logical and appropriate (computational) premise but ultimately be hindered by it. Something Kevin never understood because he's not a machine. Humans see the nuance in every action and reaction. Thanos rationalizing his entire purpose in binary is what made him such a great villain. He chooses to see the universe that way, and where he diverges from CLU. He has the ability to choose and rationalize alternatives. CLU cannot. Its what makes CLU ultimately a tragic character and Thanos terrifying.

    Tron Legacy is one of the most elaborate, detailed, and epic stories ever told in a Daft Punk music video. I remember having little expectations when seeing it in theaters, and then absolutely falling in love with the music, visuals, and basic father/son theme of the story. A sequel could really go deeper into the AI discussion and how computer programs evolve as shown in countless movies over the years. But adding the visuals and Daft Punk music would elevate it. Tron Legacy has been my favourite movie ever since i saw it at the cinema all those years ago, from the idea of the grid to the visuals to the songs are so good in my opinion. Ive never seen these sorts of movies as something meant to fully convey a perfect story but more as a glimpse into the world of these universes. The fact that there exists such a stark difference between the slums where sam arrives in the grid to the chaotic design of the arenas (showing Clus chaotic way of thinking) to the sleek design of the buildings in the city (almost suggesting a difference between what Kevin made and what Clu made) to the desolate bad lands where nothing was changed yet like a harddrive would look if you just threw random files on there without any order. The story could have been better yes, there could have been more action yes but there couldn’t have been a better way to show the grid and it’s programs any better!

      That really, really depends on whether anything constructed of data is translatable to real physics without having a one-to-one analog like a sentient program to a human. I mean, either way long-term it would never work, but if their rectifiers and such are functional they could mess up a city for a while before being demolished by the National Guard. That puts aside any handwavy data magic that would be needed to make them a real threat like being able to hear radio freeze the internet or something.
      But yeah, in a computer making something fly is more about what you say a thing can do, and in the real world it's more about how you make it do it. If the digitizing laser just makes a ship without functional weapons, an engine, or method of lift all they've got is a big fortress full of dudes half-buried in a demolished arcade and they've crushed their entire universe getting out.

    • @DoremiFasolatido1979
      @DoremiFasolatido1979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@morganrobinson8042 That mostly depends on how Flynn designed the "physics" of the Grid. Is it like the Matrix, where the code bends to your whim because it doesn't matter, or is it more like a real world simulation bounded only by the capabilities of the computer itself?
      .
      Flynn has the power to change anything, as a User, but he seems to be hesitant to do so...as if fucking with the world's code too much could cause some really nasty side-effects. And since his intent was to use the Grid as a proxy for advancing real-world knowledge and technology, it stands to reason that he'd make the Grid as "accurate" as possible. They have "air", drag, lift, gravity, etc. Odds are the ships don't simply float because they can, but they have code that emulates devices that can make them fly.
      .
      It's possible they might be less effective in the real world since Flynn himself wasn't a physicist or such, but he seems to have designed an adaptive algorithm that would organically make the world more "real" as it ran its processes. The longer it runs, the more realistic it becomes...hence why it eventually produced the Isomorphic Algorithms. Most likely, it wouldn't have worked. That would've been a lot of power to make a ship that big, and I can't imagine how it would've formed in that little basement. The only real way around it would be that Clu and one or two others go through, and somehow blow the top off the building, so that the laser has room to "beam out" the ship above the city. But that's still a lot of power. Not sure where they'd get it from.
      .
      It could be done, but there's no way it could be as simple as just going. Obviously the programs can leave...Quorra got out, after all.

    This movie had just hit theaters as I graduated OSUT at Fort Knox, KY. I remember going to see it with two of my buddies the night I got home and falling asleep in the movie theater seat. My buddies kept waking me up and my mind kept making me think I was about to get chewed out by a drill sergeant for falling asleep. Once I realized I was free for ten days and could do what I wanted, I spent the second half of the movie passed out. Ended up watching it dozens of times after and always thought it was a great movie, but I'll never forget the first time I saw half of it in that theater.

    • @sheacrowley3659
      @sheacrowley3659 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you're interested in seeing CLU's character fleshed out, there's an official comic called Tron: Betrayal. It takes place between the two movies and basically shows what Friendly Space Ninja explained about CLU's way of thinking and how he felt just as betrayed as Flynn did. It also REALLY shows how Flynn handled everything and why things ended up the way they did in the movie. It's a little hard to get your hands on the full comic but it's TOTALLY worth it if you're really into Tron. If they had condensed the important plot points of the comic into just 1 scene in Legacy, I think it would have solved a lot of the story problems. I hated CLU before I read the comic and now he's one of my favorite villains of all time.

    @BigDaddy_MRI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +517

    The score is a masterpiece. Literally. Written by Daft Punk and orchestrated by Joseph Trapanese.
    It took Daft Punk and Trapanese 2 years to finish the score. And bear in mind that this was Trapanese’s very first gig by himself. Many don’t know that Trapanese spent years with Hans Zimmer learning how to orchestrate. And if you listen carefully, you know you’re listening to an actual 90 piece orchestra that Daft Punk and Trapanese worked with to get the score just right.
    Daft Punk also wrote a brilliant tribute to Wendy Carlos, who scored the first TRON score and won 2 Grammys: “Adagio For TRON”. It is awe inspiring.
    And the movie itself just gets better and better. I wish there was a director’s cut. By the way the director Joseph Kosinski, also directed the new “Top Gun: Maverick”, one of my favorites, “Oblivion”, one of Tom Cruises’ best movies, and is slated to direct “TRON: 3”. With him at the helm, maybe it won’t be … well… woke. I’m hoping Disney doesn’t destroy yet another fan favorite franchise.
    And, yes. Daft Punk won a Grammy for the score of “TRON: Legacy”. Very well deserved.

      Said it back then and I’ll say it now: I loooove this movie, and next to the Bladerunner soundtrack it’s probably my most listened to. The composition is so extremely well-timed with the story, and I can listen to ‘The Grid’ intro over and over and over, while the club-intro scene is just the most badass walking beat ever. Blast it full on and you’ll feel like the Terminator if he had rythm Beegees-style 😂
      About Flynn: I love how much his character is in line with Bridges’ Lebowski, which makes sense: in the first movie he was like his son is now: reckless and driven. But in order to protect the personification of hope (Chora) he had to adjust to these surroundings. I for one did not feel the end of the movie being his demise: her transport to the ‘real world’ opens his aspirations back up, not to mention it directly inspiring and helping his son. This might be just me, but I got the feeling that he could have ‘cleaned out’ this world any time he wanted, but that would mean resetting everything. Now that Chora’s out, he hits reset and has a second chance.
      As for his son being under-developed: I always thought it benefited the story. He’s a reflection of the way Kevin used to be, plus probably just as smart. And yet: he’s a rich kid who feels there’s something waiting for him that goes far beyond reality. It is only in the last scene on the bike that we see him re-appreciating the ‘real-world’ and becoming who he is meant to be, exemplified by his brief moment with Alan.
      Lastly, I really love the way this movie combined practical and visual effects, and yet because Flynn got put there back in the eighties, that vibe is still very present. Heck, there’s even a convincing argument to be made that Clu really should look a little wonky, because -evidently - he’s an imperfect copy of Flynn, made by him at that time. And his prime directive could either be a slip up of Flynn, but it smartly also reflects back what an AI would look like with all human abilities and ideals, but none of the physical or temporal limitations. Which is why the books-scene is so important: he’s trying to have Chora reach those understandings on her own, integrating knowledge, experience and empathy, as opposed to the carbon-copy that Clu is. And it’s so smart to see that - every now and then - Kevin himself exhibits that behavior still, when snapping at Sam for example.
      Yes, I love this.

    I see no flaws in _T:L._ It's beautiful visually, musically, & _thematically._ The film is smart & unafraid of subtext, exploring existential ideas with flourishes of grounded human reality - exceedingly rare to see in most movies, much less a popcorn confection.
    The scene where Flynn & son share a quiet moment on the glider to reconnect could have been rote or melodramatic but they just talk about a bike & real world stuff, speaking like real people - and it's powerful.
    My favourite shot is the ending with Quorra on the bike in the sunlight - it's a naturalism you'd expect to see in an Indie drama that contrasts strikingly against the expensive CGI spectacle that came before, succinctly illustrating the catharsis of the film - the characters find peace in presence rather than the pursuit of perfection. That is a very powerful message in a uniquely beautiful movie.

    "Ahead of its time is the LEAST you can say about it.I love how Tron: Legacy both honored and updated that amazing 80's universe. I even have it on blu-ray. The videogame wasn't half bad either. It's one of the few Disney movies I actually like.

    Finally someone says it! The world building AMAZING, the concept AMAZING, the soundtrack AMAZING, design AMAZING. One of my favourite low key scenes is when the ‘end of line’ soundtrack plays as Flynn walks away and the shot transitions to the elevator at the club and the music matches the footsteps perfectly 👌🏼

    It's so heartbreaking to see this amazing world just be tossed to the wayside time and again. Legacy is one of my favourite films and Uprisng was one of my favourite shows and neither got the love or attention it deserved.

    If you want to ride a lightcycle, Disney has a roller coaster based on the movie in Shanghai and a clone will soon open in Disney World

    My favorite line used to be: "biodigital jazz, man!" But after I rewatched it for a cinema class, I couldn't help but draw comparisons with the dude when Flynn says, "You're really messing with my zen thing, man!" Jeff Bridges is just one of those boomers we can't help but love, isn't he?

    Tron was legit part of my childhood. It's what got me into futuresci-fi stuff, motorcycles, and most especially Daft Punk

    I agree 100% on your option on Quorra! She could have carried an entire Tron movie with her being the only one of her kind and growing into her own

    I'm a simple man. I see Tron, I click.
    Seriously though, on top of all the cool moments and amazing visuals, the themes of fatherhood/creation between Flynn and Clu, Sam, and Quorra and the differences in how they perceive and relate to him are so good, and I would love to see more character beats/interactions in an extended cut or something.
    And the finale where Clu doesn't understand why Flynn would sacrifice himself for Sam, and Jeff Bridges' line delivery of "Because he's my son" just hits so hard every time. I will never not cry at the end of this movie.

      The core of the movie is a discussion about family and love - about how love is a combination of things: spending time being there for someone, understanding them and selflessness and how family is something you build with that love. We see that through the journeys that Quora, Kevin and Sam all go through and how CLU just doesn't understand that selflessness, that love because he wasn't made that way.
      And god yeah you can't not cry.

    What I love about the movie is that it leaves you with a lot of philosophical questions. That short scene after the club fight where Flynn explains the implications that the grid and the Isos have for the world is amazing. That is what still blows my mind to this day.

    Legacy has some of the best atmosphere I’ve ever seen. From the opening Disney logo and the first notes of the soundtrack, everything is immersing the audience in the world.
    I’m definetly tainted by nostalgia, this was the first movie I ever saw in Imax and that experience effects my judgement, but I unabashedly love this film.
