For the last 20 years, I thought she said hormones, but when he said that, I had to look it up to see if I was wrong. Turns out, we are right, it's hormones.
I remember being a 17 year old girl, and hormones racing was accurate.
When she says "rub me the right way" she doesn't literally mean to rub her down there the right way. It's kinda like that saying, "that dude rubbed me wrong." She simply means for the guy to get on her good side...treat her right...and theyll be together...emotionally AND physically.

I think that's basically the way Christina would've justified it back then, yeah. Like, for example, Britney also said "I'm a Slave 4 U" was about being a slave to the music and, sure, for some, it might mean that, but the song and the beat and everything tell something else. And I think that's the same here. Christina could've even meant it that way, but because of how the lyrics are structured and honestly, also because of the music video and everything, it wouldn't be a far stretch to say they had the other meaning in mind when writing this song.
It has several meanings really. Also a third, rubbing the lamp the genie comes out of. It’s really cool how the song has layers to it, even though it’s a pop record.
The song is about making an emotional connection so they can make a physical connection.
So, yeah. It's about sex.
She wants to get her freak on but she doesn't want to give it away for nothing.
