Red Arrows Display Over New York City

The Red Arrows flew an absolutely spectacular rolling show performance over New York Harbor for a special crowd gathered at South Beach in Staten Island. The Reds' performance over NYC was their first, and was part of a larger North American goodwill tour, which included airshows in Quebec City, Langley AFB, and Rhode Island.
The NYC performance was brought mainly in part by ICAP, which is the world's premier voice and electronic interdealer broker, delivering specialist intermediary broking services to trading professionals in the wholesale financial markets. Despite the fact that it was a private show for the company (and that ICAP had a private party on South Beach, as noted by the large tent you saw in the beginning of the video), it was indeed open to the public to view from the beach or boardwalk. You can see one of my friends, who is a photographer out of the Perth Amboy/Sayreville, NJ area, in some of the shots, as he shot from one of the jetties.
Following their performance over Staten Island, the Reds were joined by another Red Arrow, for a couple flybys of the Statue of Liberty as part of a special photo shoot.
For those of you who are not familiar with the geographic layout of New York City, the bridge you see in the video is the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, which links Staten Island to Brooklyn. You will occasionally see airliners flying low over the show area, but rest assured they were over 3,000 feet up, and the Reds were only allotted airspace up to 2,500 feet. The airline traffic you see is heading into LaGuardia Airport. South Beach, which is one of the few beaches in Staten Island, is a rather small beach in comparison to those in nearby New Jersey and the beaches on Long Island.

I'm British...and the Reds always give me goosebumps. But I think the crowd really add to this video. If there's one thing US citizens do well, that's cheer and enjoy themselves...Fantastic!!
Have been lucky to see them a few times and they are always amazing . RAF training of fighter pilots is the best in the World. Even the US top brass have been to RAF Valley , Wales to see the simulators there . So glad they keep us safe .

Must have watched this video at least a dozen times. Love it! One of the best filmed Red Arrows display videos available. I recorded a Red Arrows display a month ago at the Welshpool Air Show (UK) (available on my channel), and I plan to see them display at least twice more this year.

Really good camera work, I mean professionally good. The Red Arrows never disappoint. Rate them where you want in the league, there are many great display teams, but seeing the Arrows escorting Concorde in 2012 was a thing of beauty.

ive seen air display teams from all over the world but I can say without doubt, the red arrows really are the best of the best... truly stunning display
Most people in the uk do not hate you guys. The people on youtube hate just about everything probably including them selves. People forget we have fraught side by side in wars and still are to this day. The people in the UK share the pain of tragedies in the USA such as 911. We have a massive tribute to the people lost in 911 and a fire fighters uniform that was in 911 on display as a tribute to the brave men and women that entered the towers. Even our flags share the same colours.
I think all the demonstration teams, regardless of nationality, are a thrill to watch. I would love to see them all perform at one single air show.

The most astonishing feat is that none of the pilots spill their tea whilst performing these daredevil maneuvers.
The RAF pilots just make it look so easy....... No matter were they fly at airshows... you cannot deny their skill and passion for flight. Brilliant... a marvel of flight and engineering. I hope it was appreciated in New York. looking forward to the 2014 airshows. Bring it on Red Arrows!!!!

These guys show skills and trust in their team mates that is simply breathtaking to watch. I saw the Reds recently at the Yeovilton Air Day and had the pleasure of meeting a couple of the pilots during the day. Yes, these guys mix in with the crowd, chatting & giving away signed photos of the team, approachable, down to earth and utterly charming, a real credit to the RAF and our country. Forget your overpaid egotistical pop & sports "stars", these are the real role models this country needs!

Just goes to show that you don't need a hi tech aircraft in a display team. Ok, the Red's have used the Hawk TMk 1 since 1980, but it goes to show how popular the aircraft is. The pilots love it, and the crowd love it. PS, went inside their base the other day, watched them practise twice, and got waves from the 9 pilots. Vid can be found on my channel.

Anybody prepared to go up in a plane and do that shit deserves kudos, no matter what country they're from. Saying that, the Red Arrows will always hold my heart.
The people who make the most noise don't represent the majority though - and there's vast gratitude for what America has done for Britain (and Europe) and great admiration (even jealousy) for so much about America - despite your faults. (George Bush : ) )

I spent 3 yrs. at RAF Holbeach bombing range (68-71). When the Vietnam war was going on - pilots from R A F Lakenheath (USAF - 48th Sqn) used to "flybies" at 25 ft. AGL in their F 100"s. on our "wooden tower" (Capt Dave Jenny). Those were the days!!! ☢☢

The Blue Angels are a great team but even they admit that the Red Arrows are a fantastic display team ....The Red Arrows have 9 aircraft and not 6 like the Blue Angels
Great footage and would be worthy of being used for the Reds video debrief which they do after every display. I think the diamond at 3:15 looks a little on the loose side. I've seen them perform alot tigher than that before. They are by far the best display team on the airshow circuit. They make the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds look mundain.
pity they had a low ceiling to work to, i like to see them draw hearts etc with their smoke trails, i live just down the road from their base and watch them train a lot (a perk to living in lincoln)

I dont see why a lot of people seem to feel the need to argue. I get that you're patriotic, or whatever, but just leave it. All flying display teams, from whatever country, are extremely impressive to watch, so just look on amazed, and admire the skill of the pilots flying the aircraft.

Lucky for me Where im from the UK the red arrows have an air show every year and they fly over my house I have a close up view..and never get tired of seeing them and the red arrows get better every year.

The majority of us have a lot of love for our American cousins, it's just that sometimes the trolls shout louder (on both sides) - I visited the USA for the first time in Feb (NYC and DC) and can't wait to come back!
