Congrats on the new sheep! I'm an animal scientist who specializes in sheep, and I'm just over in North Carolina, so if you ever need any advice or help I'd be more than happy to assist. I also post lots of educational content regarding my rotationally grazed flock on my channel. We mainly raise Katahdin hair sheep, but I added a St.Croix ram last year from Greg Judy's farm to increase parasite resistance. When you are ready to expand your flock, I may even be able to hook you up with some nice lambs in the spring :)

4 minutes in, Jess throwing that lamb onto her hip then carrying one handed and flipping her hair... THAT'S a seasoned Momma! ❤

I live in Greece and we have 150 sheep. I find that how tame and friendly they are also depends on their heritage. If their mommas are loving and friendly their babies often take after them and have the same habits and personality as them as well. Some of my sheep have three or more lambs and we train them to nurse off a mother that has only one. These lambs tend to be more affectionate because we handle them more. I call them to feed and they come running to me...such joy! ❤ I’m sure if you show your new lambs love and pet them often they will love you back. They are better than humans and can tell you are an exceptional human being and they are blessed to have you as their family.
Our all white sheep are called Bella . I name our sheep from them showing me their personality. I’ve had some sheep that wouldn’t let me pet them but I kept at it everyday and they finally started to come to me on their own. Sheep are easier to keep than goats for me. I’m positive you will become a great shepherd

🐑Sheep on the farm sounds like a dream. That’s awesome! My pastor just did a message on how sheep know their masters voice. In the the old days they’d put the sheep in this big fenced in area made of branches and thorns. The Shepard would lay in the opening (the door way). Protecting his herd from danger. Jesus is our shepherd, our door who knows each of us by name and knows our comings and goings. ❤🐑

I had lamb/sheep for 24 years. He was my best friend, thought he was a dog. On sheep shearing or any kind of sheep herding days, he was invaluable, sheep like to follow each other so we would call him,use him alongside the sheep dogs. He was very protective of his herd LOL which was dogs, cats, chooks, ducks and me. I named my first child after him(Jacob) Enjoy those sweet velvety lamb babies, they give great cuddles x

We started our flock of Tunis sheep this past year. They are beautiful, have sweet dispositions and are easy keepers. We raised a few of them for feeders before committing to a breed and their meat is delicious .
We started with 2 ewe lambs, June and Rose. We also, kept them in a small pen for a while so we had close contact. It has worked out very well for us. Both of them love us and come when we call them. We have since added more to the flock and June is the leader . All I need to do is call her and everyone else follows. Wishing you the best in your new venture ❤

I agree Sandi Brock is a very good example of a caring sheep breeder. She raises meat lambs and in my opinion does an excellent job. Do you have someone in mind to shear your sheep? And are you going to be using the wool they produce yourself? Good luck! I had a lamb years ago that became my best buddy, of course she was a bottle baby and on the brink of death when we took her into our home. Yes she lived in an upside down baby crib until she was able to go outside in the spring. My husbands grandparents owned a sheep farm and sometime things happen beyond anyones control and baby sheep get sick, I nursed her back to healthy and she was my baby. I loved that lamb! 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

I love sheep! I've been watching Sandy Brock for several years now and she is probably the number one lady to watch when it comes to breeding, feeding and caring, and major Hands-On when it comes to lambing. She really gets her hands in there and she works together with a veterinarian when certain situations occur that you might not be aware of and she actually works hand in hand with a vet and she is very educational as far as sheep. She lives in Canada and they're a meat breeding State Farm at least she is her husband is the farmer for corn, soy, grains etc etc but she is a plethora of massive information. I was just blown away and she is so enjoyable and fun to watch to boot

Sheep are the sweetest, most gentle, wonderful, affectionate animals! You're so right that tame ones are easier. In case you don't know, lambs around 2 months old, so weaning age, are prone to coccidiosis when they're stressed like from moving to a new place so if they seem sick or start to scour, be prepared to treat them for that or you can lose them. The hair sheep will shed some of their baby wool somewhere between 2 months and 6 months, and they get itchy so if you start scratching their backs they quickly decide you're their best friend. I would love so much if you wind up getting some wool sheep and learn to shear, spin the wool into yarn, and start making some hats or something!

Key tips for getting sheep to love you
    1. Food. Scrap brassicas go down well
    2. Brisket scratches. Their no1 spot for the gooood scritchies.
    3. Ear wiggles.
    4. Food, again.

She has a large commercial operation in Canada but so many of her videos contain excellent information about medical things and lambing/weaning. She is a good resource for lots of repitition of how things can go right and because she has a large herd, quite a bit of what can go wrong and what to do about it.
I am so happy for you and looking forward to watching the new babies grow.

I hear ya regarding appreciating beverages. Especially in the AM I "need" both a hot and cold. On my work desk there will often be at least 3 beverages. Icy cold tea with a million ice cubes, or water, cold soda, and a hot coffee . 😊

Ah! I love lambs! We raised dorpers in CA. I bottle fed a triplet, she was very small and I was worried momma wouldn't give her the attention she needed and she was the sweetest little lamb. She would run and jump around inside the house with my daughter who was 3 at the time. Sweet memories. 🥰 Bless you and your new sweet babies! 💜

How absolutely wonderful to see you and Jeremiah today (10/23), in Batesburg, at the Arts Festival! I commented to you that "we" had morning coffee together and that meeting you in person was both exciting and awkward, all at the same time. So many of us know you like our own, while today was the first day you met most of "us." You both are gracious and embracing! Blessings to you both in all your endeavors!

Only 20 minutes from where I'm moving in a few weeks! My husband's family have a horse farm that we plan to expand. Excited you're in that area now too!! Thanks for the great resources, we love watching you!

Hey Jess! I watch Sandi Brock on youTube. She is a sheep farmer in Canada and has a lot of years experience and goes over what is going on with her flock. She teaches what she does for mom's with PregTox as well as other issues she runs into with her sheep. Plus, watching all the little lambs frolicking around is mesmerizing! God Bless you and yours!

Sheep are our favorite animal on the farm! We raise East Friesian/gotland crosses for meat, milk and beautiful wool. We did a lot of reading and tried 5 different breeds total before deciding on this cross.

Congratulations!! I love being a Shepherdess! Hopefully this will go well for you. 🐏
Sheep respond really well to soft gentle people. If you want them to love you you need patience, spend a lot of time sitting with them, move slow around them, and be consistent. If you always throw hay in the same spot each day but catch them one time while they are eating they will remember it and always watch you suspicious of an ambush. Breed makes a difference but individual personalities always exist in breeds. Good luck! You've got this! 💙

We have 3 dorper ewes and got them when they were young but not little lambs - maybe 4 months. Now we pat them, hug them, love them- I’m sure yours will be the same! Ours are patch, chips and snowy, they’re like puppy dogs 😊

So happy to see you get sheep! We have about 70 sheep. I live in a place in Turkey where you sometimes have to stop the car and wait for 100+ goats/sheep to pass. It's been quite a learning experience. Make sure you're de-worming regularly when grazing. We lost two sheep this year to a tapeworm that comes from canines/foxes.
I'd love to see how you progress with your new friends. 😄I also watch Sandie Brock / Sheepishly Me. She has hundreds of sheep, but definitely has a close relationship with some of them.

We raise Shetlands in Virginia. Just had some of our girls to AI this weekend because we are using some new bloodlines from the UK. Shetlands can be very friendly, any sheep can as long as you spend the time with them.

Ever watch 123 homefree? Amazing shepherd that trains his rams to pull a wagon that is his home. He makes all his clothes and bedding from the wool, makes cheese from the milk and is self sufficient pretty much. I think he has at least 4 sheep and sometimes more. He really loves his flock and they love him back. It’s really amazing.
