For those who are interested, Mr. Olsen has a corner-to-corner guide of Big Willow, and it has helped me shave 7 seconds. That's a HUGE improvement with just watching a TH-cam video. I'm currently a beginner at 1:46:050 and cannot wait for my next visit to further extend my knowledge and experience.
Live in the moment. Nothing else matters. Turn 9 at Willow Springs requires total commitment and total confidence in your equipment. You demonstrate both! Kudos to you and your machine.
Randy Pobst was laying down 1:25.7's in the NISMO GTR and did a 1:25 flat in a C7Z06...for this car, under 300hp to be knocking on that door...it's f*ckin impressive....especially on a street tire. As big/heavy as modern cars get, reduction in mass will always be best. Proof you don't need huge power to be fast.
Jack, the folks at auto bild did a nice job telling your story. Must have been fun working with them. I agree with an earlier post, you'd hit 1:25 with stickier tires. But you are trying to do it with a nod to the budget. Reasonable choice; work with what you've got, and do it with skill and absolute commitment to the turns. Cool.
Well I reckon that no 'stance guy' that actually knows what slammed cars are about has ever claimed to run a sports car instead of a show car..... Nor tried to break lap times.. Hell when do people understand that there are different styles and purposes for a car? -.-''
Well for a big wheel oligarch range rover I haven't got any sympathy either. But I just looove bagged euro cars (for example). I too think its stupid to make a car absolutely useless, but with air suspension you can have both: A mad show-stance and a comfortable daily ride. However cut springs and cars that cannot cross a speedbumb at any speed are just terrible..
well done again, Jack, you're an inspiration and I don't mean the racing part, but the overall maker/carnut/awesomedad personality combo is a mix I have been growing into over the past 2 years, no small thanks to your online presence; Keep trucking !
Thank you for this great video! It really shows the special relationship you have with this car and I am truely impressed by your love for the car and for the ambition to make it faster and faster step by step over such a long period of time. I would really love to meet you someday and see the car in person, 'till then please keep developing this great 911 and keep us updated. All the best from Germany and a Merry Christmas.
I used to own a S2000, It was to small for me because it is a convertible and you are limited how far back you can put the seat back, however I loved that car. i bought mine in 2010 with a scorched piston so I got a very good deal on it. I pulled the engine out, took everything apart, Installed 2mm Milling repair selves bored and honed to stock spec. and installed a Honda Accord K24 Crankshaft and made it into a 2.4L. It ran like the devil. it made very close to 300hp and an extra 50ft.lbs. torque at the flywheel. The heads and cams where all stock as well the exhaust system. I only had ~$1500 in parts. I see many people buy many expensive parts for their Honda S2000 and you really don't need to.
As a fellow 911'er someone who's gone around the Big Track for year, i appreciate your drive and the excellence in your car. Hope to bring my stock 911 out there one day instead of the bike. Cheers !
Jack: I've read a few articles about you and your car, and now I have seen this video. Impressive! By the look of your garage solution and the jack that you have installed I surmise that you are a meticulous, solution-driven creative with an engineering bent. Hats off to you from a fellow Porschephile! And may you attain 1:25.00 at Willow! =rdsieber/356/912
Lovely video Jack, I ran into your posts on Welding Web and couldn't help but be reminded about this vid. Thank you for being an inspiration in the quest to seek speed and build better.
Very cool , I just drove willow last weekend for the first time , can't wait to get back , your instructional video helped prepare me as to what to expect, thanks.
We need more people like you in America to show especially the young generation that Motorsports can be an important part of our countries culture like it is in other nations. Cheers to you sir!
I still remember the Pelican threads on the assembly of BB2, and the Excellence article about it. Jack, you are a true gearhead, doing whatever it takes to reach the goal you have set.
I love that but wonder how he finds people to help him make significant changes but not spend big money. (?) I'd like to upgrade my 993 but it costs big money to do it well with my sources.
Love the humble DIY attitude. Keep the videos coming. I think it may be time for a turbo, but that's my answer for everything. A centrifugal blower may be heresy on a Porsche but might suit you better.
As tire technology evolves, soon 1:25 will be possible. And there is still place for other improvements (for example, replacing glass fiber and aluminium for carbon fiber, as it becomes less expensive and easier to work with everyday). Great story of true passion. Hope all goes well.
This video will no doubt become viral as your petrolicious video did. I am sure you've been asked this before but I'll ask again. If your quest is to reduce lap times, then why not explore every avenue to do so? You've address the braking, the weight, and even the aero. With your vast experience with this chassis and this track, why not add the final element of power? I am sure there are options to add some power "without breaking the bank" and there is no doubt after watching some of your onboard footage that you are capable of maximizing that power. I am not disagreeing with your philosophy, in fact, my entire track racing life I have embraced the very same with Hondas, Miatas, and my current BMW. But I find myself at a crossroads where the car no longer satisfies nor challenges me. So, I'd like to hear from someone like you who has been in the game much much longer as to why you are against adding power at this point in the car's build. Sorry for the long comment! Eugene
Well I think its because he doesn't have a lot of money to spend on it, so he's doing what is affordable and leaving it at that. Personally I think he could free up some power by building a custom intake and a large filter. I think the next best thing would to get a dyno tune and address the fuel system/timing. After than, I think he should get full length headers, and run a pipe to the back without any cats or mufflers, then obviously retune it. All that would be cheap and probably net 20-25hp overall.
Some people honestly just like leaving the power intact. Not really my personal thing, but truly amazing how much this man is putting into this. We need more people like this for enthusiasts. It's also a swap if that helps for the engine.
Robbie Wilson Yes the LSX is a great package but if that was to go into the Porsche it would completely screw up the existing setup that he had for the car, so it might ultimately make his car more slower thus it would take a huge amount of time to get the whole package right to be back at where he was in the first place. BTW I love LS engine :)
Love this video! There is truth in distilling a complex mechanical and physical task into a quantifiable essence. And to do it cheaply! You are the white Mr. Miyagi......

It is an honor to see your commitment here. Awesome. Thank you for your dedication. Hope I will be there someday.
This is a fucking sports car. Stance guys don't understand a damn thing. This car is what everything is all about.

Im tried of seein these 'stanced' cars on instagram with stretched tires and totally retarted alignment jobs. These are the next generation of ricers.
I really do try not to make fun of the whole "stanced" trend, but this is the realest statement I've read all week.

Thanks Jack...bought an S2000 a few years ago and am learning about the car and how to drive. Your videos are great and an inspiration.

I adore how they left the section of just pure audio noise. Addicting.
One of the coolest car enthusiast videos I've ever seen. Truly inspiring Jack!
Simply outstanding. Anyone close to racing or drivers ed will appreciate everything in the video. Well done.

We need more people like this fella across the world. Inspirational in many ways.
I still remember the Pelican threads on the assembly of BB2, and the Excellence article about it.

Such an amazing pleasure to watch! i cannot find words to descrive!
Thx for sharing your passion, keep the good work!!!
Jack, thank you for sharing. I too have been going to road courses for years. Great video and info about your car.
Always inspiring to see videos from you Jack. Keep driving man. You'll hit 1:25.xxx in no time.
Definitely the most inspiring video of 2014. Thank you.
I'm just a little bit late to this video, but very well done, Jack. I enjoyed it, brother.
This guy is awesome! Using every dollar in the most wise fashion to shave lap times. Thats how you modify a car.
I love that but wonder how he finds people to help him make significant changes but not spend big money. (?) I'd like to upgrade my 993 but it costs big money to do it well with my sources.
Love this Story and your commitment to just one car.
Love it. I have been struggling with the idea of a variorum replacement for my 82SC.
Amazing story! Thanks for sharing! You've got a beautiful car!
Why do we obsess about speed at the track? This tells the story better than I could ever. Even my wife is starting to understand now. Thanks, Jack.

Very Good Video !!! Smooth ..... you show up a wild 911 as a smooth machine !! Very Good !!
Awesome Video Jack. Keep em' coming.

Hey, I recognize that garage from the internets!! It's a famous garage now! hehe

more power = less reliability.
ShepherdsWrench pretty much tue unless he uses a different engine like an lsx, whoch could easily make 450whp with 100% of he stock reliability.

How come he's not on willow springs track record list with such a fast time?
Probably not "officially" recorded
How about 1:20? 270hp on this?
Sound so pretty.
Bravo!
I know of what could get 4 seconds off of a lap, it starts with T and ends with "URBO"
Jack - when I grow up I want to be like you!
Love this video! There is truth in distilling a complex mechanical and physical task into a quantifiable essence. And to do it cheaply! You are the white Mr. Miyagi......
Hi Jack, just wondering... is that dashboard a 964? did you do it for the AC? if so, is it hard to swap from 70s stock to 930s 964s? thanks !
Julio Iribarren It's from a 964 turbo. I think that was the only leather covered dash in the air cooled 911's history.
Track Day, Bro! ;)
I want one, how?
That's how I feel when I ride my dirt bike ,or my gokart.
Wow
I call BS! Your goal, from your head-to-head edit racing against a pro, is to turn pro. Only a matter on time.
PS Congrats on the 1:26
Turbo...
Well rogan/bill burr brought me here.
and your car has air conditioning!
