    As a recently 22-year-old young person, I’ve essentially given up on ever owning my own home, getting married, or starting a family because I can’t see how I could afford it without having to spend my entire life working 90 hours a week into the ground.

I won't even try. I'll push alone as far as I can and when I can't do it anymore I guess I'll just become homeless and die on the street.

    Many years ago I got out of the military at age 23. I was emotionally damaged and lost. Turned to cannabis, alcohol, and other drugs for coping. Worked shitty jobs because I wasn't stable or clean enough to be employed in high paying fields despite my talents and skills. I was even married and had a house... Certain types of people will go through a doomer phase at some point so never assume you are alone. It can destroy you, but even more important, it can make you stronger than ever before.

    40 year old Doomer here. I can't believe how well this described my life up until now. I think it was harder for me since I grew up split up between the time where the internet didn't exist and the current time. I was raised to believe that you could be anything you wanted if your were optimistic and worked hard for it. I was blind to the reality of life well up my late teens. And that is when truth hit me harder than a freight train. Depression, denial, anxiety and suicidal thoughts overtook my life for a couple of decades.
    Today, I just accepted life for what it is, even if it's meaningless. Acceptance that things sometimes won't be how you wish them to be, or how you were told they would be, is key to finding your peace. I dedicate my very simple life to my dog, my art and my hobbies, with work in between to sustain it. I have no one in my life, but I somehow managed to find happiness within myself.

    "When you don't want to live but don't want to commit suicide" oof... feeling this way makes me not be careful anymore. Not worrying about possibly being an accident. Not getting that mole checked. Having an "if I die, I die" attitude. For people who feel this way, we've already accepted death for what it is and don't fear it. The only thing we really fear is how we die and hope it's quick and easy.

    • @Jarell1661
      @Jarell1661 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't you fear being the last human being on earth ? Don't you fear being mute, deaf and blind all at once ? Don't you fear being a vegetable ? Don't you fear getting raped by well hung males ?

    • @frawich4253
      @frawich4253 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Same for me. I basically don't fear death anymore since my mentality is that I can't care/worry anymore after I'm dead. In your words "If I die, I die" so what about it. Just marks an end to the struggels of life. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy life while you are able to and that's mainly why suicide is out of the question. My only worry is how my death could affect those around me as I don't wanna make them sad/depressed just because I moved on from life.

    I’ve been a doomer since I was 17, currently 32. I’ve done some things, met some people and had some relationships I never thought I would. Everything that happens in my life feels like it happened completely through chance. Nowadays when I wake up and go to work, then go to the gym, I have this sense of watching myself doing these things and I’m constantly asking myself, why and how are you doing this, because not only would I rather be sleeping or smoking, I have spent the vast majority of my life sleeping and doing nothing but gaming. The question every doomer seeks to answer is how to stay motivated and live a ‘normal’ life, and after 15 years of this I can honestly say, I still do not have the slightest clue

    For me, it's the complete detachment and isolation of adult life in modern society that gets to me the most. When you're in school you're surrounded by people your age with virtually no responsibilities. Once you hit adult life in the real world, it's like life does a complete 180. All you do is have responsibilities, you no longer make new friends, you just have coworkers, and the ones you do have will slowly but surely fade away as time goes by, either through them having kids, moving, or just eventually losing touch. I feel like there's literally no way to create and maintain human relationships with the way society is set up, you just work all day, and have no real outlet to meet new people. Sure, there are dating apps, but those are legitimately depressing lol. It's almost impossible to even get a conversation started on those, let alone cultivate a relationship with someone.

    I am the typical young adult, milllenial of 90s. I am 28 and still struggling to get a job. No matter how hard I try, I am crushed in this competitive world and ruthlessness of it, especially in corporate. If you want to make it big, you have to be exceptionally talented or skilled at something. Problem arises when you don't know what that is. I have tried different things like creative writing, graphic designing, everything turned out to be just average. 90s were the golden years for me, little did I know that we would suffer like this as adults. All the technological advancements were supposed to make life simpler, but I saw young people becoming slaves. Moreover, the slave mentality that suggests working 8 to 9 hours a day without taking leaves, is purported as " commitment ".
    Count me in, Doomers. I was a Bloomer though all throughout childhood. I saw the positive in everything before I became like you. Every doomer was once a bloomer.

    I’ve found that finding small meaning in the day to day that makes you smile will get you through until that big meaning starts to show itself. Taking care of my family and others makes me happy. Taking care of my body and building it makes me happy. The blue sky and the green grass and the tall trees and the sunshine makes me happy. Listening to upbeat music and lofi makes me happy. Dancing like a fool in my house makes me happy. I feel a lot of fear and pain and injustice in the world and sometimes it puts me in a funk but I just try to remember that the more I try to sustain a happy state the less happy I actually am. It’s hard to feel aimless and like life has no meaning but in reality that’s just our ego telling us that we need to have a certain type of meaning and success and we won’t be happy until we reach that specific definition we have come up with in our minds. Paint, dance, workout, go on walks, etc… remove the idea that you must feel happy about all things all the time. That expectation is what causes unhappiness. Breathe out the idea that you must be interested and knowledgeable about all things. Breathe out that you must have an opinion on all things. Tragedy is a part of all human existence, but, if you can sit back and realize that while painful and sad, life is also wonderful and beautiful. If you’re looking for a place to start in finding purpose or meaning then just start helping others. Family, friends, acquaintances, strangers, etc… give someone a hug that seems to need it. Be an ear for those that need to offload. The beauty of being in a dark place is you know how bad it feels and wouldn’t want anyone else to feel that way. Helping someone else work through their problems is likely to help you work through your problems.

    It’s funny how I ended up reaching the same conclusion as niche on my own. People call me pessimistic because I don’t believe in an afterlife or that life really matters, and I know all humans are inherently selfish and bound by the same instincts as other animals, but I’d call myself an optimist, because I don’t view any of these “bad” things as negative and in spite of all of this, I still enjoy life and don’t simply sit around feeling sorry for myself. The key is #1 seeing reality #2 accepting that you can not change it as a mere human and #3 playing to win at life in whatever way you define winning. I’ve noticed doomers are always stuck at #2 as I’m constantly seeing people complaining about things that they cannot possibly change (such as human nature or the very way in which the universe works) rather than accepting it and ceasing to waste their time and energy complaining about things they cannot change.

      @@VYMQGSOH I think I get your point but I interpreted what Lone Wolf said as feeling every emotion, not just happiness, instead of every experience. Your first comment made me think you were talking about emotions but the beginning doesn’t make sense to me because you can’t appreciate the best of times without the worst of times to compare it with. If you’re always having a good time then what makes any moment special or the best? Back to your second comment, sure we all can’t experience both extremities of every curveball life throws at us but there can definitely be parallels in emotions even if our experiences to get those feelings are different. It’s all just chemicals in our head saying that this is great, this is not great, and everything in between. We can all feel different variations of emotions that make life interesting, whether they were good or bad. To me, that’s everything

    • @axelpop3542
      @axelpop3542 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@VYMQGSOH Yes it is impossible to experience the exact same scenario as everyone else, I’m just arguing that people can still provoke the same emotions through different experiences. Like in your scenario, if I’ve never had a father to mourn for because I grew up without him, then yeah I won’t have the same emotions as someone who did grew up with their dad and is upset about his death. But there could be someone else in their life that was a father-figure to them that would provoke the same emotion of loss if they were to lose them. That’s why we can still empathize with other people even if we haven’t been in their shoes. We can still understand their pain. Yes we’re all different and we all had different hardships in life, but emotions let us understand each other so that we’re more likely to bond with other people and survive as a group.
      I think you see emotions and experiences as a one way street but I see a lot of overlap with each other. If you think emotions from a biological standpoint, it’s just the amount of dopamine or other mixtures of chemicals released that make us feel a certain emotion in any moment. If I feel really happy because I got a promotion, I could provoke the same amount of chemicals to be released on my wedding day, it really depends on your priorities. But with that said, what are the chances that we provoke the same amount of chemicals that make us feel really happy as someone else who was also really happy from a different experience? It could happen, especially when we try to compare every single emotion we experience in life. The happiness I felt from getting my first house could be the same emotions someone else felt when they got their first puppy.
      That’s the main thing I don’t agree with your argument because it’s based on the fact that if every event happened this way, then you would get this type of emotion, when I think emotions are more universal than that. That’s why people can understand each other and empathize through music, through different languages, and through different experiences even if we haven’t walked in each other’s shoes. We may not experience everything, but we can perhaps feel everything.

    I used to be a doomer when I was 20, and for a couple of years was exactly how the doomer character is portrayed.
    I got through it through sheer willpower and an urge to do something different to make me happy again. I found a job that pays decently and isn’t completely boring, study paramedicine and have hobbies such as martial arts and playing the guitar.
    My piece of advice to those who are doomers is this: You do what you want. If it makes you happy and gives you a sense of purpose, pursue it and forget what the modern world tells you. You are your own person and it’s your story. You may not decide how your life begins and what happens around you, but you decide what you do and how you’ll do it. Even if you have to rough it out for a while to get to where you want to be, it’s worth it. You got this fellow doomers, best of luck.

      The problem with depression, is it makes you apathetic to even the activities you used to enjoy. I think what a lot of people with the mentality like the video is talking about have is likely depression. It's hard to "do what you enjoy" when you lose the ability to enjoy those things. I believe it is called Anhedonia, But it results in a decreased ability to feel pleasure. I have no idea how you treat such a thing but I know many people have it. I know for myself, I can't even play a video game (my main hobby) for more than 10 minutes at a time because it feels bland and boring. Can't even finish a new game that I've never played before anymore. It's the same for tv shows and sometimes even music. Losing the ability to feel pleasure truly makes life feel worthless, I know that much.

      Logic?

    • @froggie1847
      @froggie1847 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Scrimp here’s your logic (sorry for any typos or grammar errors). In life there is just so many things in life to over complicate. You can always grub in the negative news and then the next day or next week some new negative news will be there. You can waste your life in social media and then there will always something new in social media to keep you at it. We have to live life in moderation. Understand that it’s not good to set your life on something thats “virtual” and doesn’t represent your own life. If your too busy watching the news, playing video games, and on social media to the point where it impacts you from experiencing your life to the fullest then what’s the point?? Life is too short. Your life is where your energy goes. Don’t stress about the certain insecurities and expectations you have from people. We all are not perfect. If you put your energy in making yourself feel worthless or inadequate then of course that becomes your reality. Our rights and wrongs are subjective. We choose to believe what we want to believe. The light and sound spectrum is an infinite scale and we only feel a part of that spectrum. No matter how far we get making technology there will always be something that in the spectrum are yet to find. That’s the basic of science (not to discourage advancing humanity tho). The point is since the things we see, feel, taste, hear, smell ranges only from “part” of the light and sound spectrum then we are never certain that our perception will ever be quintessential to understand our world. Therefore we are only left off to believe what we are given at. That being said, we need to believe in our lives being positive for what it is. You can keep looking at yourself for the countless ways of negative things about you or the positive things about you (vice versa) like in the light and sound spectrum. But hopefully we should know that our mindset on how we see ourselves, everyone, and the world is just a part of what we take from the positive/negative things in our lives. So hopefully we do our best in letting our mindset be more influenced by the good compared to the bad since that is what’s going to take a person far in life. I realized to be one at peace with yourself you must first know the “Ying-Yang” of your situation. Understand that good and bad balances each other. If there was no bad then there would be no good. Bad memories exist to make us realize what is our good memories (vice versa). Then from there know to let your life flow from there and to not fight the “current” of life. There will always be a rock (challenges) in our lives but understand to let the waters let you flow around that rock. Spend too much time trying to fight that rock or think too much of that rock then you will be stuck there more. It goes to the saying, spend too much time victimizing yourself for what situation you have then you’ll ultimately feel trapped and prevented from moving on or bettering yourself. You can know so much of life where you don’t actually experience it. Being so intelligent in how the world works doesn’t compare to the wisdom for experiencing the world.

    I have felt for some time now, what Schopenhauer said. Even before ever hearing the quote in this video about creating art. That's exactly what I've come to feel in my most inner self looking at this existence. The more you get to know the world and see it for the chaos and artificially constructed place it is, the more art becomes the calming bandaid for all of this. Art is relieve. It's the expression of your inner self through creativity, seperated from the pressures, boundaries and expectancies of society, that truely makes you feel free and alive.

    I'm 23. We born at the time when technologies weren't everywhere, but we witnessed how they just filled all our lives and developed with a really enormous speed.
    The thing is because we grew up too late for actually getting something from the Internet - we were too young to be bloggers, to create startups, to be a genius programmers who created all this, etc.. in 2007-2015, we saw all this, when we was growing up.
    But another thing is that we're not like zoomers, who grew up in the Internet from their earliest childhood. We got it only when we was teenagers. Not everyone had technologies like almost everyone has today. We know what a life without the Internet is.
    Now all 'modern trends' just make us wanna vomit.
    We are too old for this trash.
    I think we should be grateful and not depressed. Because this fact actually rescued us from other bad things.
    Now I realize that I DO NOT want to become a blogger. This is just ridiculous for me. There are so many beautiful things in our lives which we can do. It also rescued us from becoming a typical zoomer. I want to live outside of the Internet. I want to use it only on purpose - for learning, for meeting people from another countries and cities, for independent news. We see all this modern "zoomer-period" hypocrisy and cynicism because we witnessed a time where such things were considered strange and even vile in our family, among our friends.
    P.S. Yes, the game industry was much better before 2015. Now it's all about money and sjw.

Sadly I don't believe it's of my volition since COVID is what caused me and my friends to start distancing from each other since it happened during my senior year which btw also almost caused me to not graduate since my grades took a heavy hit so yes I was happy that I graduated back in 2020 but almost not making it hit me hard mentally...2-3 years later I haven't talked to any of my friends I mean they don't even respond on Instagram even my childhood friend doesn't talk to me anymore, I've had zero romantic experience and sadly a month before our school shutdown I found out I was being led on by my crush so that got me depressed, I have nothing going for me: no job, no love, no friends, gained weight (218-298.6 pound's), and feeling pressure since people I know in highschool are in top universities while I haven't accomplished anything... however I still have my family and the internet,anime, gaming, and meme communities that I'm proud to be apart of and who make me feel alive.

      Hope ur doing alright. This vid caused me to go down a rabbit hole into my own philosophies and past and its beem pretty rough but im writing down my thoughts at the same time. its very normal to not talk to people from high school but being ghosted from your best friend sounds pretty rough. In our society today we have to gain experience and knowledge the hard way in order to be truly fulfilled. Its not the kill, but the thrill of the hunt that tigers love. Same can be said about humans. Everyone has become so overstimulated to practically unlimited knowledge, like this video states, that its entirely predictable for nihilism and despair to skyrocket. The challenge of the modern world and more specifically, younger generations, is to not only go against biological processes in going against societal norms, such as social media usage and popularity online. And navigating a now foreign landscape of the pursuit of knowledge and experience in a practical way in order to sustain yourself into adulthood and beyond. We are pretty much setup to fail as a generation, which is a very sad thing. But definitely not impossible to overcome, i think the meaning of life can only be found when there is a clear threshold between futility and its polar opposite fruitfulness or true value.
