Going to be honest, I tried every hunter style and the only one that truly felt the best to me is aerial style. It just feels so good being able to do jumping rolls out of the way and jumping all over the monster like a mad Rajang with jumping attacks for days. You may only get one art, but I feel the increased mobility makes up for it well enough.
Hello, I found a amazing tech move to sword and shield in mhw. If you mount a monster and hit him TWICE, then wait a second. You can hit him with two more shield bashes. And repeat it.
I have a question about those valor steps. In generations I like to use the silverwind set for swaxe, but I've noticed that when you are using db, the evades have some weird i frames with evasion+2, like they are shorter than evasion+1. Those valor steps look similar to the db evades. Do they have the weird db evade i frames or they count as normal rolls?
They say that the new nerf for energy charge 3 makes it though to keep up the unlimited demon riot. I need to test this with a deviant weapon + hunters drink.
This video came at a pivotal moment in my life. I was playing the demo online and offline, and find that I absolutely adore this weapon but lack all knowledge required to use this weapon to its fullest. Thank you for your work. This really helped.
Switch Axe really made me love the game more. I'm one of those people that uses all the weapon, so when finally get to understand another one it feels so great to use it! SA, for example, I made a bludgeoner set for awhile back and it's take me far into endgame. Tempest Axe + Demon Riot +Trans Slash = some nice damage!
Here something key to note Striker style still retains the fast discharge, press A, and as so long as you don’t delay the X+A input, you can go into the discharge at the same speed as the double swipe. Utilize this to use the multi hit portion of the discharge to rack up damage(91 motion if all 7 hits land)
In my opinion, SA is well, finally a switch AXE. Sure Energy + Riot will still be good, but at least its balanced enough with the changes to energy charge and the new tempest axe to actually make the axe more of an actual weapon and not just a weapon everyone morphs out of first second unless they're playing adept.
They made energy charge take longer to charge up, which nerfs the demon riot + energy charge infinite sword mode combo (if your demon riot drops because you didn't manage to charge up energy charge in time, that will hurt your dps a lot). They also added in a new hunter art for axe mode that speeds up a lot of the axe attacks, and makes the hack and slash combo attack faster and use 1/2 the energy per swing, which would give it a nice dps boost, and also gave a faster attack to exit the combo.
@@kedolan4992 usually i main striker I run tempest axe Demon riot and energy charge. Ill use my riot-charge strat as much as i can. If i ever fail to charge before.riots runs out. I switch to axe and use tempest. Its amazing.
I can't believe that I'm saying this, but Alchemy SwitchAxe looks REALLY awesome! When I get this game, I can't pass up that style/weapon combo! Thank you for this!
For a long time, I always thought the left-to-right chop combo had the hunter switch hands while using it but they actually keep it in their left with their right hand on their hip. Suddenly I love this move a lot more. Chop heads and tails while looking sassy but formal... and making sure you don't cut your own hand in the process.
You know what else would make more sense? Not using hugely impractical weapons in melee against huge fucking monsters. :^) And when I think about it, switching hands makes less sense. It would just make it tougher to carry the momentum to each swing, which is what a top-heavy weapon like an axe relies on. And by placing the right hand on the hip, it's out of the way of the axe so they end up not breaking the hand they might need later on!
Exactly. Normally I over-analyse stupidly over-the-top weapon designs for the fun of it but MH just gives me way too much to work with to want to care! But yeah, in case you've seen fencing or historical sword sparring and you wonder why people keep one hand on their hip, it's not to look sassy. It's to keep it away from their sword and not present an easy target to the opponent. So there's a bit of random trivia for you.
Finally I can play a switch AXE! I was getting a bit tired of only using sword mode. Now I just need to decide between HH and GL for my secondary weapon...
Tell me how good this is: Valor style Get into valor mode Have max sword gauge Use demon gauge/riot 3 Use double energy discharge and use the valor evade to step in again and repeat the energy discharge
I love how Switchaxe has two hunter arts for buffing Tranceslash. You can make the elemental discharge at the end stronger with Demon Riot or make the beginning combo longer with Tempest Axe. I’m glad thsi art exists because now there’s a reason to try out Axe mode, rather than spamming Sword mode. Can’t wait to try out Tempest Axe once this game is out.
Switch Axe is my main. I use max leveled Exoskeletton Chopper almost exclusively. It can stun in both axe and sword mode, and if you use aerial style in sword mode like I do, the chance for stun will increase. It has saved the butt of both me and my teammates on several occasions.
They blunted my primary weapon in this gen (Gunlance) with a colossal nerf bomb, but at least my favorite secondary - this weapon - not only as good as it ever was...but they gave it ALL THE BUFFS. They really made the SwAxe a goddamn force to be reckoned with in Gen/GenUlt.
It looks it for sure, it's just me though and how I play the thing. I tried it on the demo and just could not get it to work properly, overheated constantly. Also, I'm not sure yet...but it doesn't look like any of the other gunlance types really benefit from Valor. Charge shots don't go off any faster and it doesn't make regular old shelling any stronger, at least from first glance. I don't know, I'm sure it's amazing and I'll see a lot of fellow Gunlancers running Valor, but at least for now - I'll be sticking to what I know.

They probably are, they did a really good job in mhw iceborne with axe amp and most of (if not all) the new moves they added in iceborne have been shown in some demos already.
What swaxe are you using in this video? It's gorgeous, and I thought it was seregios' weapon but while it looks similar it's far shinier and spiker. Golden Rathian doesn't fit the bill either. I'm very confused and I really want to get that weapon.
Is it me or did they nerf the Energy Charge III hunter art? In Generations the gauge always charges up fast enough for me to almost never be in axe mode, but it seems slower in GU. I'm using Energy Charge I now, since sword mode is so important for aerial style.
Thanks a lot for this video ! It really helps :D I was wondering what is the best phial for SA, i'm guessing that during low rank you get power but what about high and G ranks ? should i keep my power phial or get several SAs with elemental phials and adapt my SA to the monster i'm hunting ?
Thanks so much for this, never played this before apart from monster hunter world. Lance main on MHW, but maining switch axe on Generations. Great video.
Erm, I've been watching all of these tutorials and I dont quite understand what you mean by "Motion." I'd assume by the context it means the damage before attack comes into play, but how much does attack affect it? Is it multiplied by an amount of the attack of the weapon? Or does motion mean active frames? Im hella lost.
Motion is a value that represents what percentage of your maximum attack power you do as damage. The longer the attack takes the higher motion value aka damage it has.
For example a weapon of 200 attack, the sword and shield is fast so an attack may be like a motion of 10 which means 10% of 200 is its attack power. The great sword attacks take longer so may be like 40 which is 4x more powerful than the sword and shield attack but takes longer to do
I have a question, this new hunter art allows you to do a Axe mode finisher even in styles that you can't do a normal finisher? Like for exemple Adept/bushido style?
Doesn’t mention you can cancel the infinite swing with a down word chop Doesn’t mention you can morph into sword from downward chop You can also morph into axe from the swords double swipe After a roll you can do the upward swing with the axe And after a roll in sword you can wait for a little bit and do the forward downward swing as opposed to an upward to do more damage and cover more ground
Now hear me out.

i'm still in HR3 in mhgu but right after this video i made a switch axe and played aerial for a cople of hunts. I really enjoy but i hate the fact of not having the switch finisher of the guild style.
I hope that in mh rise they will balance it so that the axe will be usefull.
They probably are, they did a really good job in mhw iceborne with axe amp and most of (if not all) the new moves they added in iceborne have been shown in some demos already.
I need to take a break from CB, gotta try this out.
21:43 Valor Style
Aerial Swaxe is my child and I love it
What swaxe are you using in this video? It's gorgeous, and I thought it was seregios' weapon but while it looks similar it's far shinier and spiker. Golden Rathian doesn't fit the bill either. I'm very confused and I really want to get that weapon.
Would I be correct in saying this weapon is kinda OP in MHGU (and probably even more so in MHG)?
Is it me or did they nerf the Energy Charge III hunter art? In Generations the gauge always charges up fast enough for me to almost never be in axe mode, but it seems slower in GU. I'm using Energy Charge I now, since sword mode is so important for aerial style.
I love how people are trying to compare World axe with GU Swax lol.
Originally planned to use valor switch axe but after the refresher I might be using it in aerial instead
Thanks a lot for this video ! It really helps :D
I was wondering what is the best phial for SA, i'm guessing that during low rank you get power but what about high and G ranks ? should i keep my power phial or get several SAs with elemental phials and adapt my SA to the monster i'm hunting ?
Thanks so much for this, never played this before apart from monster hunter world. Lance main on MHW, but maining switch axe on Generations. Great video.
O thy great hunter, I yet again seek out guy great wisdom!
Thanks for the helpful vid. Great like always.
Wondering near the end of vid what armor you/he using?
Cool video gaijin. Did I miss how to start the fight in sword mode, like at 11:19 ? Can't figure how to do it. Many thanks.
How to do damage:
1. Activate demon riot
2. Activate tempest axe
3. Use trance slash
The great sword attacks take longer so may be like 40 which is 4x more powerful than the sword and shield attack but takes longer to do
gaijin hunter awesome, thanks a ton for clarifying! I greatly appreciate the quick response. Love the vids!
as a hammer main, i think its time to try this sucker out
Half an hour of SA.... tasty
Loved the video but did you show the Morph attack for the roundhouse finisher for guild style?
I use It in alchemy style!
Amazing with wheat Stone and insight skill!
Demoni Riot 3 charge reaaally fast!
Tempest Axe looks nuts. What Styles work best with it? Are all of the finishing moves changed to the new one?
Wait? I'm 2 years late but... hunter arts labeled with 1, 2, and 3 stack? And I kept adding the third one for no reason?
I have a question, this new hunter art allows you to do a Axe mode finisher even in styles that you can't do a normal finisher? Like for exemple Adept/bushido style?
Can you please test that mister gajin Hunter?
Another great video! Thanks
So witch you feel is more powerful
Demon riot+Trance slash vs Tempest axe + Trance Slash?
Trance slash is kinda pointless but Super powerful if you stack it with the new hunter art and demon riot (I imagine you can do that)
Doesn’t mention you can cancel the infinite swing with a down word chop
Doesn’t mention you can morph into sword from downward chop
You can also morph into axe from the swords double swipe
After a roll you can do the upward swing with the axe
And after a roll in sword you can wait for a little bit and do the forward downward swing as opposed to an upward to do more damage and cover more ground
This wasn’t meant to be hate if it came off that way but I just wanted to shed light on a few things he missed. Great tutorials though👍
