Yeah 100% best beginner video - I've been researching loads and I was getting confused as somethings was left out this taught me exactly what I need to do so thank you very much
Thanks so this video. It’s easy to follow along with for beginners. I just bought a 10 gallon tank and was confused with all the info I found before I watched this video.
Best beginner video I have found on you tube. Just wanted to know which order to add gravel, decor and water and spent a lot of time looking until I found this video. Thank you.
was looking for the very specific question of "should i wipe the tank with just water, rubber alcohol, chlorine or window cleaner solution?" i'm so happy you made it very clear it should be just water. Thanks!
I liked to see, we always learned a lot of new things, and of course with API quality. A new year of 2021 full of positive things for everyone. Greetings from Portugal. :-)
Hi there, thanks for the detailed tutorial. I m not sure what I'm doing wrong with the filter but it's making a lot of noise? I'm not sure which direction is the filter supposed to go...the shoot goes into water right? The bio wheel is not turning...pls advise.
You won’t need a conditioner since your water does not have chlorine. But I would still add beneficial bacteria like quick start, Fluval cycle, MicroBacter, or FritzZyme any one of those would speed up the nitrogen cycle.
I’m not sure if I got this right but it do you have to wait weeks before you put your fish in there and is that a good system for just regular goldfish?
Waiting depends on how large the tank is and how large the fish are, also the quantity of fish put in the tank. The problem comes if you have too many or too large of fish and the beneficial bacteria can’t keep up with the waste those fish produce. So add some type of quick start or even 2 different beneficial bacterias and add fish slowly that should greatly reduce any problems like ammonia burn. Also yes this applies to all types of fish.
So just to be clear, there should be a few days of test running the set up before adding fish? Or should I wait much longer? There was something said about the tap water conditioner, wanting to add fish quicker than 3-4 weeks? So I got a bit confused.
I have a 6" air stone, one of those standard blue ones. I have an air pump that is apparently non adjustable. It's a15 gallon tank, an IQ Whisper external filter, sized for up to 20 gal tanks. I just have a couple platys in the tank, building up slowly. Do you think there's too much current between the filter and the 6" air stone? I have the filter at a very low setting. Sorry for the rant and thank you very much if you do happen to answer this!
Can you make a video on how to change the water? Also, great vid! I’m about to buyThe filter you used! It’s cheap and it looks amazing! Keep up the great work!
I will hopefully be making some new videos in the near future, my home life has had some major changes in it and I want to get back to making videos as soon as possible. But I do have some videos going over the python water changing systems that might help.
Dave L if you use city water then u will need to add conditioner for sure every time. I only use stress when adding to new tank. I add quick start when cleaning a sponge filter or other filter media to help seed new bacteria. I never clean/change all my filter media at once,I rotate to make sure there is always enough bacteria
Yes many people add a little food to help feed the bacteria as it’s population grows. Or you can buy aquarium ammonia but if you add that I would test the water daily to ensure all your levels are good.
I revived a betta for my birthday without any accessories. I bought the tank (5gal) substrate filters and what not. Since it need to run it for a few days after I put in the QuickStart, what do I do with my fish? Thanks in advance
If the water has been treated with conditioner, and then you waited about 15 min at least then you added quick start I would just add the betta to the tank. Watch the ammonia, nitrate and nitrites. If they get out of hand do water changes. And eventually your tank will cycle with the betta in it. Testing the water often and water changes when needed will keep him safe.
@@electricblueaquariums4821 thanks so much for the info. This is my first fish so I’m reading up on all of this. How do I test the water and check ammonia nitrate and nitrite levels? Thanks so much
When I did this my water got cloudy I didn't use the caps safaris to measuring cups I'm wondering if this is a problem or should I just start all the way over
I'm starting up a 10 gallon after 20 yrs as a new hobby but so much has changed and I really don't remember thank you was very simple instructions I'm still doing research for everything else.
I have some questions. Does this set up and liquids work for glow fish? How do I go about changing the water since I think I have been over feeding and my water is cloudy? And also where would I place the mesh coil bags for taking all the cloudiness away?
So my daughter got a fish at a fair and we didn't know anything about fishes so we bought a little 1 gallon bowl and put it in. Then after doing some research I realized it needs a filter and aeration so we got a new tank but I want to hurry up and get the thing out of the one gallon bowl because the water is getting very murky looking and I don't want the little guy to die do you think that it would be fine to put the fish in after using quick start or should I really wait and risk the fish just dying in the murky water
@@electricblueaquariums4821 I went to the fish store to get the water tested and they said it was fine for the fish (finally)so I went home to put him in the new tank and he was dead. On a lighter now we have been cycling the tank for a couple weeks and have a heater going in it and plan to put some small tropical fishing in the next few days however I can't get the pH level to drop even though I keep adding API pH down, any suggestions on what I can do?
Hey that's a really great tank I was wondering if you ever thought of using live plans. Plenty of great plants that you can use that feed off the water column. And of course your API products are not great. I live in Taiwan I actually don't need to use like products like that I pretty much let the water sit for 3 days and then I use almond leaves to soften the water Everything pretty much stays stable as far as pH.

good day everyone today is day I make my upgrade from current 10g to 20gL.As I stated in previous post I plan to transfer my current filter media from my ac30 to the ac50 along with current substrate with some decor.I will be using some additional bacteria.Im hoping I can add my fish soon ...seeing how they'll be in an holding container until the new waters are decent.Anymore suggestions I'll gladly accept, thanks
I always add water conditioner, and when I change water and clean my tank I will add quick start to help replace any bacteria killed from cleaning or if meds were added I will add bacteria too
I leave in a tropical country. Do I still need heater for my Siamese fish/betta or I could just leave the aquarium near the window for natural heat from the sun then let a colder temperature at night? Should I still put heater?
In smaller tanks I prefer to fill a bucket, treat the water with conditioner let it sit at least 15 min then mix slowly into tank and add bacteria so no nitrogen crash occurs.
Yr tank needs a source of ammonia for the bacteria to grow. It depends what size tank but if u say added a little fish food and let the bacteria grow and break it down without quick start it can take 4 or more weeks.
Is it okay for me to only have the filter and heater? I'm planning add a glofish type theme tank with the glofish in my tank but still need to buy the essentials things for it.
Yes getting the tank up and running with just a filter and heater at first won’t hurt anything. It’s best to get the tank up and running as soon as possible, but I would say the heater and filter are most important for proper beneficial bacteria growth and water flow/agitation. What other stuff are you going to add later?
@@electricblueaquariums4821 I'm just setting the things up for the fish tank for the decorations. I just have to buy the water conditioner for the fish tank but I'm not which one would be the best at a cheap price. Any recommendations?
For that description I prefer API water conditioner, quality brand at an inexpensive price, prime is the other brand I go to. It does more to the water than just condition it and it can treat more water per bottle but cost a bit more so you have to take that into account.
If I have a sponge in a HOB I will swap the regular filter and wait 2 weeks then clean only the sponge then repeat that cycle it should leave enough beneficial bacteria in the filter system so your nitrogen cycle doesn’t crash.
live in a spa town and we have a natural spring. water filters through the earth and comes up to a fountain it is very soft and pure.it has been for 1000s of years. is it good for an aquarium
Is it drinkable? I would suggest testing it first. pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia for example. Maybe also chlorine (doubt it’d have chlorine but I already have the test strips) and hardness just to make sure it fits the fish’s perimeters.
my freshwater tank have been grey and hazy for a week now, i use test strips it shows my PH level and little high and the general hardness looked pretty high, how do i lower that hardness? thanks
If the water is hazy it’s probably a bacteria bloom. I would add beneficial that should clear it up. If you want to soften your water u would filter it with an RO filter prior to adding or there in filter media additives that can soften your water
Thank you so much i will look into that, sorry for all the questions, new to the hobby. Where do you install it? In the same slot as the filter goes? And do you have to change it monthly like a normal filter?
Very informative video. Got a 10 gl tank with all the setup, added conditioner and quick start. After 24 hours took the sample to store and they said water is fine. Got 2 glow fish and they died in few hours. Do I need to cycle the water more? Like that ammonia nitrite and nitrate thing?
I’m assuming that if they died that quick it’s not from ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites. How long was your trip from the fish store? How long did you float the bag before adding your fish to your tank? And what temp is your tank at? Also what did the fish look like before they died… any white spots, bloated stomach or ripped up fins, anything that would indicate they are not healthy?
@@Federal_Bureau_of_Investigatio hiii, my tank is 8x8x8 and I already put my 2 fem bettas and 2 platy. I am still in the process of water changing in a week because I put plants on it. Isn't good?

Wow... great informative information. I think I am ready to start my 10 gallon aquarium. One question for you..... I have a salt tank water treatment in my house. Can I use this water? Thanks in advance.
I wish I would've watched this first. I just got done setting up a 75 gallon tank and didn't know what chemicals to use, so I used a water test strip and learned my chlorine is above 1 and my ph and water hardness was a little high... I bought pH lower chemical and something called aquasafe plus. I don't have any fish yet... but wondering if it's okay if I add conditioner now? I've already put the ph and aquasafe in the tank. Now my ph is slightly too low and my water hardness is "very hard" but the chlorine is at 0.
Very simple, throughout and precise. Thank you 4 years later 🤝

@@obeyme_yuna you need to get a bigger tank a 10 gallon tank, because an 8x8x8 is not big enough for even one betta
I would suggest a ten gallon also, and if u keep up on water changes and adding beneficial bacteria you should not have any problems but a larger tank would be very beneficial to the fish and water quality
@@electricblueaquariums4821 Hi thanks! I'm currently living as a tenant and a student so I have limited budget and space. But I will get that one...soon. thanks! 💖
Does a fish tank need Air Bubbles or just a Filtration system will do?
If you use a sponge filter then no bubbler is needed if you use a hang on back then I would get one.

Got it, Thank you.
Thank you for this video! I would start this soon!!!
You're so welcome!
Wow... great informative information. I think I am ready to start my 10 gallon aquarium. One question for you..... I have a salt tank water treatment in my house. Can I use this water?
Thanks in advance.
if it’s to add beneficial bacteria it’s probably not the same strains as fresh water so i wouldn’t use it.
