  • It is time for the alien observers to form their conclusions about life on planet 806.4616.0110. Do corporations have the potential to advance to a Category 2 civilisation and journey into space?
    Parallax is a five-part series that explores earth from an outsider’s perspective. What do we learn when we step outside of our myopic, planetary view and see ourselves at a distance?
    Find out, in this survey of an alien world.

    Thank you Adam. Fantastic work. I love the upside down view of every thing. After all why not. There is no up or down on the universe. I hope your work will put you on the first row for a type 2 civilization. At least as an evangelist for a different thinking. By the way i'm in Portugal and the corporations actions have been working very well to warm up the place. This year they even achieved a record burning of our forests to increase the ambient temperature.

      There are some big Carl Sagan references throughout the series, but they're subtle. The planet number has something to do with him, for example. I like to think he would have liked this too :)

    Somehow I was mysteriously unsubbed from your channel and I only came across this by chance. I remember watching the first four parts in amazement. Fantastic ending. Resubbed. Like #808.
    I even like the title, it just goes to show the amount of thought and cleverness in this. Parallax- Is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight. So literally, seeing Earth from a different line of sight. Genius, it really is.

    gotta love the passive-aggressive take on global warming, good job!

  • @ragarwal74
    @ragarwal74 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My compliments on such out of the box thought. Every analysis -- of the question: "What would an alien think of us?" -- is human centric given from our own myopic perspective.
    It is quite an interesting thought that an advanced alien civilization would perceive "the Corporation" as the dominant sentient force on the planets driving the real agenda and humans as all but trained primitive biological beings put to work.
    It's sorta true. I would however hope that an advanced civilization would have some documented history of their own evolution (after all everything started with the Big Bang?) and -- the aliens would conclude that the Corporation is not actually alive. --or-- perhaps, you are trying to make a finer point, that the rise of the Corporation _is_ the next evolutionary leap this plant has started towards.
    Amazing stuff!

    It seems like the symbiosis between the corporations and the employees has suffered a major set back.The corporations are displeased with the employees and have imprisoned them in the underground dwellings.
    The goal of the corporations to warm their frigid plant now seems to even be receding!

    • @Mentaclink
      @Mentaclink 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair, the reason it's a "problem" is that we've been breeding cows like crazy. So it's still on us!

    • @Qorelin
      @Qorelin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Corporations have figured out that if more cows are generated to feed the employees, then more employees can be made to serve the corporations and therefore more 'profit' can be acquired. It has the added benefit of helping the atmosphere capture more heat from the local star. We look forward to 806.4616.0110 becoming a type 2 civilization.

    I enjoyed watching these videos as they were very entertaining however I feel that the thought experiment of looking at Planet Earth through the eyes of an alien was almost pointless. The video is full of conceptions that only a human would make and no pragmatic approach that an Alien would view the world from is ever considered. Yes there is good satire with respects to global warming but by making the corporations the dominant life form, you have become stuck in this anti establishment perspective and real messages about real people are non existent. If you would like to see something similar, I recommend you watch 'Noam Chomsky: The Alien Perspective on Humanity'. TL:DR: Enjoyable mini series but key messages lost in anti corp message.

    Eh not very realistic. The observing aliens were able to observe a Trump speech and distinguish that he was of great importance. However they were not able understand buildings were living sentient beings, and humans dont live underground, or man the rockets, isn't very plausible. Still a cool series, just lost some of the realism.

  • @lifehole1
    @lifehole1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Average, IMO. There was some insightful analysis and viewpoints that made sense from an alien perspective, in terms of pure objectivity -- but the core themes are obviously tinged with undue, unobjective cynicism in a politicized way. I agree with the political 'message' but it ruined the opportunity to give viewers the awe of a truly alien perspective that is also accurate in analyzing rather than randomly swinging at different shit and basically just making guesses.
    The whole market thing was neat, and capitalism is the driving economic force so it makes sense to analyze it, but I disagree quite a lot that it would be the most significant thing to aliens. Whether or not they'd see us as sentient as individuals doesn't matter, -- analyzing us like a colony of ants would make more sense probably, but the fact that the aliens were so goddamn stupid as to conflate buildings = corporations and somehow not even see the ideologies, ideas, symbolism, etc contained within the actual driving force behind the societies, aka the human organism, was kinda dumb. Instead they just brush us off as pests that maintain buildings? Do they not understand basic neuronal systems? Also
    This would be excusable if they somehow introduced the aliens as having their own biases and therefore they'd start examining the problem of communication and understanding between two civilizations-- but no, it's all just taken as objective analysis.
    There's a clear flaw to the logic here: If they're so objective and the human brain is inherently binary and can't truly 'understand the universe', why the heck are they even communicating at all (and through symbolism) if they inherently grasp the universe so well?
    It had the opportunity to mix sociology, physiology, ecosystems, neurology, and so, so much more, but instead wasted it on a political message by aliens that, judging by their analysis skills, aren't even sentient themselves.
