It's gotta be fucking heartbreaking for the band to realize that 30 years later their songs are still completely relevant today because nothing has changed in society, if anything it's gotten even worse.
I don't know how RATM feels, but this song has been relevant to all of human history. Resistance isn't a path to an end goal, it's the end goal. RATM wins ever time they play this in front of a crowd, and every time someone watches it on YT or hears it on the radio. But humans aren't going to stop being shitty to each other.
My wife and I had our first dance to this song. That is “our song”. 26 years later our youngest son used the security lapse from the tackle to get in the pit. That was him surfing the crowd and getting tossed into security just before the solo. Proud parent moment. For real.
I distinctly remember being 12 in 8th grade listening to Slayer's new album 'Reign In Blood', and thinking "can you imagine if someday we're like 70 years old thinking THIS is "our song' and they play it in supermarkets?". and yup, that's apparently how it goes..
