I'm nearing the end of my Gannet build and I must say that, like the Airfix K2 ambulance, it goes together beautifully. I had no issues with it at all. The only problem I had was fitting in the required amount of weight in the nose. I didn't quite put enough in so mine's a tail-sitter but as it'll be pinned & glued to a diorama base that doesn't matter. I think, having seen a couple of other builds on youtube, Liquid Gravity will help a lot. A lovely kit to build, top marks to Airfix- they're producing some really excellent kits these days. I'm going to need a bigger spares box though!
ITS SO UGLY! I LOVE IT! It's a must-buy and must-build now that I see that you can build it with folded and stowed wings, making it extra-ugly. I cannot wait to get this, I am so excited!! Honestly, I was hoping we'd get an after-market folded wing detail set, and that was when I would pick one up. No need to wait, I guess!! :D
Fairey Gannet and Sea King in 1/48 from Airfix....what on earth will it be next!? 😳😲🤨🤔😉 Exciting times, Exciting times indeed! Thanks Airfix! 😎 Excellent review, as always....👍🏻👌🏼👏🏻
Great review as usual, Mr Flory! How is the quality of the plastic itself - is it not too soft, please? Apologies if you already mentioned it, and I've missed it. Cheers!
My understanding with the AEW and the AS like we have here are too different in their airframes and (possibly) wings to be able to produce the different variants like they could with the Sea King or even Buccaneer. That being the case, I think it's actually going to need a whole new tooling for the AEW3, which I'd love to see.
But isn’t it about time that Airfix stop the issue with short-shots? I’ve had issues with every new kit they’ve released in the past several years. Surely it isn’t cost effective to offer replacement parts or sprues with every new release? I would have thought that getting the injection moulding process spot on is key. Don’t get me wrong, I love Airfix, and I will always buy and support them, however these shortcomings must cost them new or returning customers, surely? Quality control 100% needs looking at. Not a bashing, just some heartfelt constructive criticism. Btw Airfix…. PLEASE rerelease your TSR-2 kit!! I’ve built 6 (in both scales) and I’ve more schemes I want to build; an upgrade wouldn’t go amiss either. Nudge nudge… 😉😉
Weight on wheels look stupid ... Those nose wheels and the main wheels when on the ground/deck were Not like that at all, there was to much pressure in the tires for that dumb flat spot ... Ban Weight on wheels it's dumb & looks carp ... and before you get cocky I worked on the flight deck with these aircraft as a chockman ( Aircraft Handler) I saw these wheels up close and personal thousands of times
Love the way Airfix is really catching up with the Europeans and Chinese competitors.

A 1/48 scale Vickers Viking?
I think it shame Airfix don’t include weight like Tamiya do with they 1:48 planes ✈️
Then the costs would go up.

It's good, not the soft soapy stuff. It's crisp :O)
@florymodels brill, very many thanks!
Fairey Gannet not Gennet , looks great though , nice to see something unusual again instead of F-... time after time 🤣
Just can't get the staff . . .😂 Ginnet not Gennet.
Why Airfix kits never come with reference colors guide??
Do you recon there is possibility for an aew variant or is the likelihood it will only be released in AS variants

Is this the one you wanted so long?
Don't go there 😂
Apparently the Gannet's have seams on their canopies
i keep dreaming of a Scimitar...

Yes. I've given up with new Airfix kits in favour of products from companies who can actually mould their kits properly.
Multiples bags ... for airfix... hell must be feezing over..
