I was looking for a decent bourbon last night, and had to do a little googling because I’m fairly new to Bourbons. My quick half- assed research pointed to Nelson Brothers, classic, after looking up the few brands that the liquor store had. (Not a large selection) I paid under 39 bucks, and there was a man who seemed to be on the same mission as me, overheard my conversation and said “I saw you googling, I’m going to try it as well” 🤣 I haven’t tasted it yet, but after watching this video I’m a bit more excited.
When I was at Bardstown last fall they were producing for Nelson brothers. Even had the bell mede in the gift shop.
My first bottle that started my collection was that Belle Meade cask strength! So good!
Watching older episodes I missed. I love the Belle Meade Reserve and can still get bottles around me for $65. I only have 3 bottles, may need to get a few more before they disappear.
Took the tour at Nelson Brothers a couple days ago. Confirmed that the current Classic & Reserve products are made from Bardstown distillate…They do distilled their own juice In Nashville for the sour mash whiskey…
Just picked up the reserve from Costco $49.99, 107.8 proof. Pretty decent, I’d put it just above an everyday drinker, something you might enjoy on the occasion. At that price I’ll keep a bottle on the shelf. Wonderful flavors
Dan's face when the "creature of flight" went into his body had me rollin'
All I have to say is stock up on Belle Meade Reserve 108.3 while you can still find it. It's going the way of the plastic cap Brown-Forman ET BIB.
just picked up a nelson bros classic on discount for $15 and was unsure about the buy but now looking forward to cracking the bottle now
I had both at thier tasting room a few weeks ago and brought home the reserve only because I wanted a new bottle to drink on the ice. Which in my opinion makes it's taste just like the classic
Sounds like I should bunker a couple Belle Meade Cask Strengths as much as I should look out for Nelson Bros.
According to the bartender at the distillery when I visited, BM was a blend of MGP and their own nelson greenbrier distillate, so I would assume the new label is too
@@eugenenassif527 the new nelson bros. is around 30% rye and is a blend of mgp and bardstown
Wow, kicking myself now. Passed on Nelson white label for $37 today. The green reserve was $60.
I had watched this before but forgot which you guys liked.
Will get it next time - thanks guys
Lovely! Thanks, you goobers. The hunt is on.
Nelson has shipped to Michigan, saw it three weeks ago.
Nelson Brothers @ $35 in FL was a great grab
Usually the TTB designation "Blend of straights" is used when you're sourcing from multiple states for a single release. Hence, you won't see a state of distillation, because it's not required. Thinks Bardstown Discovery 3, 5, and 6 (though they're cool enough to give you detailed info about each blend, even though they don't have to).
*Edit:* Also, since it's a Blend of Straights, and there's no age statement, it should all be 4+ years.
The Belle Meade Sherry Cask is a delicious sipper as well.
Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve has always been a banger! Hope this new endeavor our can hold its own. Large shoes to fill. The Belle Meade Sherry cask release is some of the best TN whisky iv'e ever had.
In PA, the Nelson Bros Classic is $50 and the Reserve/Barrel Stength is $70. I wish they were a little less, glad you're reviewing them!
I live in PA and just picked it up for 38 and change. Haven’t tried it yet
There have been more Belle Meades in my area so I am glad I didn’t pick any up. I will wait for the new stuff!
I’m the opposite. I’m trying to find the Belle Meade’s before they are completely phased out. Happy hunting, and cheers!
when I visited Bardstown last year they were saying there that Belle Meade was going to be distilled there.
That Belle Meade Reserve bottle you have with the hand-written proof hasn't been around for 2-3 years now. They were insanely good and way better than the current Belle Meade Reserve that is 108.3 proof (printed, not hand-written) and is a more accurate comparison to the Nelson Bros. Reserve. Loved to see this review though and it looks like I'll need to try the Nelson Bros. Classic now since liked the Reserve but didn't get a chance to try the Classic yet.
Brilliant observation. Just realized that my first bottle was their version (amazing) and my 2x reorder was the 108.3 version. Opened it right now and it was not very good. Tasted young and hot. Hoping it is a neck pour problem.
It's one of those things that I feel like I'd like it a lot more if I hadn't have the old one, LOL. I can say that the bottle I had was when I came back to it a few weeks later so hopefully that's the case for yours as well :).
Great side by side comparisons. Cheers!
That must be an old Belle Meade reserve, I think they are all 108.7 proof or something like that.
Looking forward to this bottle hitting the shelves. Cheers fella's
Thankfully in Nashville Nelson Bros Classic is actually about $34/bottle in most places, so that makes it an A for me dawgs!
Nothing can replace bella.
Tried the Reserve and enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Sounds like the Classic is worth a shot. Cheers, fellas.
Have y’all been able to get your hands in Chattanooga TW Batch 25? Tried it and founders while in Tennessee last week and preferred it over founders.
30.00 here in STL for the Classic🥃
blend of bardstown and mgp still no tn distillate involved
Someone posted a picture of a barrel of a new Belle Meade Honey that was sourced from Bardstown or something.
It’s not a rebranding, Belle Meade is not going anywhere, this is just an addition to the distillery.
Was that just me or was it really hard to tell which bottle they were taking about at any given time?? They just kept saying “that one” or “this one”.
Not just you.
I thought the same thing.
Sorry sometimes I think I'm pointing and I'm doing a bad job. We'll do better next time. TL;DR Belle Meade black label is awesome. Nelson bros cask strength is weird.
Interesting, great review 🥃👍
Big belle meade fan so I'm curious about that low proof fella
We need a bug violating Dan in every video just to get more of that "got the whole fist in there Doc?" reaction.
I’m heading up to Gaylord this week from Indiana, any recommendations on a good liquor stop along 131? Thx
Check out Smittys and Cloud 9 in the Grand Rapids area. North of there its really hit or miss
@@brandon_sprague thanks! I used to stop at Rishi’s International Beverage in Grand Rapids but wanted to try somewhere new.
Butane and spray paint too lol
The creature of flight had to be allocated or Dickel, no in between.
I've walked past that 93 proof for $32.99 at Costco a few times. I don't think I will again.
The Nelson Bros Reserve I tried was absolutely vile FWIW. Tasted like acetone and pencil erasers. That rubber note they talked about is real and a huge nope for me.
The other one sounds promising though!
Belle Meade is still gonna be used for distillery exclusive stuff or something.
been passing on this the last few weeks waiting to see what you guys thought
update the classic is great and is mgp and bardstown blended per the distilery 6-8 years old
I have the both the Belle Meade and the Nelson Brothers Brand Bourbon, and they are both very good.
Fuck yes, I was just learning about this yesterday.
From what I gathered, it’s a mix of their stuff and mgp.
You know what they say
It looks like we are going to dump Dickle from our store because of their huge price increases, they just don't rate the higher price!
Nelson Bros vs George Remus next. Similar proof. Both possibly MGP. Remus about $15 cheaper and non chill filtered. I love the remus. It slaps for the price
Remus is MGP's (now Ross & Squibb?) house brand, yes?
I agree with this.
BM Reserve in ohio $70 and everywhere.
Belle Meade Reserve?
I just realized your videos can go up to 4k. Why would I watch Dan in 4k?
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾👌
BM single barrel CS = mgp 10 or 11yr
BM CS = mgp+dickel
BM Reserve= mgp blend of various ages (younger stuff in there)
Ive had some amazing BM Single Barrel CS, and ive had some amazing Dickel single barrel CS “15yr”, but the BM CS (mgp+dickel blend) was not stellar (stellum?), and the Reserve is good but the 6 yr notes poke through and arent close to what the original single barrels CS mgp was… i heard that the BM Reserve was running out for a while…idk what the Nelsons stuff is, but im guessing its even younger stocks/ blends. Thats the trajectory for well-aged whiskey (9yr+ imho) these days….the bourbon “gold rush” is over. For the present time. Thanks
High Rye? Yup.
Their website is VAGUE == MGP unless explicitly stated. I hate this. Just own it and say where it's distilled. Don't be douchy and ignore it.
BOURBON JUNKIES. PLEASE STOP CALLING BOURBON FRON TN "Tennessee whiskey" IF IT IS NOT CHARCOAL FILTERED AND DISTILLED IN TN
