      @@invalidrequest same reason he has random ads that suddenly break the immersion for the viewer. Needs some experience in tv/radio broadcasting.
      They NEVER just cut to a commercial break. Tv shows have fade outs and timed breaks. Live shows announce bteaks for sponsors. But thus podcast just kinda throws them in spots and by the time the long winded ad read is over, I've lost what was being discussed.

    I just read this book. It was the most gripping and terrifying book I’ve ever read. The first person, the quiet step backs and simple explanations. I found myself howling at the book over and over “PICK UP RUSSIA … WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS … HOW CAN THEY BE SO RECKLESS … MAD WAS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO FAIL”. Genuinely almost had my head fall off when the minutemen flew, unannounced, AT RUSSIA to reach NK. You can’t make up the absolute asinine recklessness of this plan. Another two things that haunt me 1) 1945 the first bomb was dropped and we still have zero, zero, shield against these weapons. It’s the speed. Bringing me to point 2) the nuclear subs. Wow. Wow. Wow. What have we created and unleashed on the world?

    Ms Jacobsen brilliantly pulls together a lot of historical topics to put the modern world and struggles in context. An enormous amount of work and analysis is evident. You are also developing excellent interviewing skills. Thank you! I would love to see Ms Jacobsen on with Yuval Noah Harrari. To talk about the presence of fiction in historical, contemprary and future spheres. Where is humanity going, carrying all this historical baggage? Some bags are loaded with bombs...sadly. How can we move forward? What can be done to dismantle and replace the military industrial financial political complex?!

    Interesting interview. I think she's got some minor things wrong about nuclear warfare though. Nuclear weapons are almost exclusively air burst weapons, that don't throw a ton of fallout or ash into the air. The nuclear winter idea came around because of the rather disastrous subterranean and ground detonations we did as tests. That's when everyone figured out that ground bursts weren't efficient, and that setting the weapon off at 3000 feet or so does more damage with less radiation.

    • @ericw741
      @ericw741 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah may be an unpopular take but her assumption that the whole UFO thing is just a huge psyop that has been repeated over the past 80 years is pretty telling that she doesn't know anything about what is going on or that she is part of the problem spreading disinformation. A few other things she talked about imo were not correct. I ended up turning it off mid way.

    • @lornespry
      @lornespry 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was under something more than just an impression that the nuclear winter hypothesis was based on the fallout from burning on the ground that would find its way into the upper atmosphere. Were you around when these subterranean tests were going on? I was paying attention, but I never connected the 'nuclear winter' hypothesis with underground testing. The whole idea of underground experiments was that there was no eruption of material from the blast site - more like the opposite happened. There are photographs!

    My grandfather and his father were in Auschwitz but ironically saved by one of the doctors doing human experiments. My great-grandfather had an enlarged colon that became so large one of the doctors kept him in his lab for daily observation bc he couldn’t understand how he was still alive and how it didn’t burst and the doctor kept him well fed to see how long he could live w a colon so enlarged. My great grandfather would then smuggle out extra food to my grandfather who used it sometimes to have a little extra strength but also to trade for things that would help him stay alive. He was even able to trade the extra food he got smuggles that day plus his daily portion for a pair of teffilin (phylacteries) and put them on and prayed in secret every day.
