    “You read books saying to leave weeks between coats, and put 11, 12, 13 coats on - but these are generally written by people not paying for scaffolding hire”. That comment made my day.

    Can this be used on an interior wall? Do you recommend any additional products for use in a bathroom?

      Hi Chloe, thanks for your comment. Limewash can be used internally, onto lime plaster surfaces. Alternatives which are useful for internal work (including bathrooms) are Lime Paint from Kreidezeit, and Silicate Masonry Paint.

    Nigel Copsey uses a hotlime “sheltercoat”. It’s applied thickly. Different strokes for different blokes I suppose.

    Good film. But what does the linseed oil do? Help make the limewash spread more evenly? For us we found the coverage of the brush differed radically whenever the render surface changed from smooth to rough. And also some parts of the wall were more absorbent which also made it very hard to work out how thickly you need to apply the limewash.
    We would greatly appreciate a film showing you working on an older wall where the render was less even than the one you used in this excellent film. Please also could you show how much you apply to your brush as you cover the wall very smoothly (i.e. generous amount on the brush) yet without spilling or dripping any of it. Any additional tips would be greatly appreciated. We love the product but could use some advice from you the experts
    Thank you.

      Hi, Thanks for the comment, yes the coverage rate does change between smoother/rougher surfaces. The linseed oil is there to help make it slightly water repellent. The brush shouldn't be loaded too much as you need to apply it sparingly as a wash rather than a paint. If applied too thickly you are just building up thick layers of lime putty which will craze & crack. We will hopefully post a new video soon to answer your comments.

      If in doubt get someone to do it for you, it’s not like weathershield or sandtex, it’s an almost water cover, hence why called a wash!!!!!!

    Would a limewashed ceiling deter speck sized flies from sitting on it? They seem to love my mat white ceiling and wondered if they would still love it coated in limewash.

      Thanks for your comment. While limewash has been used often in agricultural buildings to help control insect life and other biological activity, this is mainly in regard to infestations within the material and growths of mould on the surface. In its dry cured state the limewash we produce would be unlikely to have any deterrent effect greater than that of chalk, or limestone, for example. Were you to paint spiders on the ceiling it may be a different story !.....

    Can this colour limewash be used on brick face of house before repointing? 2

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, limewash can be used directly onto brickwork provided it does not have other paints or coatings that would prevent the limewash from soaking in.

    I've got a project .they just want it solid coverage. Do you still wet the wall and what dilution do you use .with airless sprayer

      Hi Chris, we always damp the wall to aid adhesion, we don't recommend spraying because of the caustic nature of the lime.

  • @adamskihousden146

    I was taught not to go continuous up down or left right, multi direction for application.
    Also it’s better to damp the wall to stop the waxing effect from the tallow.

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely right about multi-direction application of the limewash as we show here. You can also find this on our limewash guide sheet at mikewye.co.uk
      We do discuss dampening down the substrate in this video. However, this has no impact on reducing waxing with our limewash as we use linseed oil rather than tallow as standard. You can hear the ingredients of the limewash mentioned in this clip.

      Hi. The multidirectional action, to ones brush strokes, is key in that it hinders the natural downward motion/flow of rainwater that's obv hit the plaster wall. The faster the rainwater moves down the wall the more destructive - in terms of erosion, it becomes.

    Can I successfully lime wash an interior wall that was lime plastered 4 months ago?

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen. Limewash can be applied to a newly lime plastered wall after about a week, in most instances. This is assuming of course that the lime plaster has not been decorated or treated with another paint/product in that time.

    Can you put limewash in an airless spraygun? Or is too abrasive?

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would not recommend spray application of limewash, for numerous reasons.

    How did you get that colour

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Our limewash colours are produced by adding natural pigments in varying amounts and blends. This video is taken from quite an old DVD but the colour looks something like 'Cob' which is a blend of a yellow ochre and brown pigment.
      www.mikewye.co.uk/product/natural-pigment/
      I hope this helps.

    What was the wash recipe used?

    • @MikeWyeLtd
      @MikeWyeLtd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TrialByFire 7 The recipe is a very traditional lime putty and water mix, with natural pigments to give colour if required. Historically many additives were also used to aid water repellency.
