I don't understand why you have so few subscribers Carter. Unbelievable chops and tremendous feel. Easily one of my favourite drummers. Love the new kit btw.
@TheBradge When someone like Coop3rdrumm3r (bellow average drummer) has so many subscribers, it is quite understandable that people are wondering why Carter has so few views.
not so trendy stuff, but... his demos on Bovid snare head and remo clack dots have milions of views already. Nice sound and playing, no talking, just good drumming.
My first drum kit was Ludwig, 1965 Club Dates 13, 14, 22 with a Pioneer snare. All in blue/silver duco. Wish I still had them! You sound great on these.
This transition between companies just further cements the idea that the gear doesn’t make the musician. Carter will sound like Carter no matter what he plays, same goes for all of us.
Saw Carter play with Charlie Hunter at Ronnie’s last year. There was a duo supporting and the kit sounded horrendous, think it was just an in-house thing. Carter sat down after they’d played to add his breakables, spent no longer than a minute tuning and the kit sounded unbelievable. He’s a true musician.
Uhh, that was my first set but burgundy sparkle. Then added 22" bass and 13 and16" toms. I went through my Ginger Baker phase. Later added a 24" bass in my Bonham wanna be phase! I wish I kept them all!
Ludwig and yourself will make the perfect combination....your tasty grooves and the classic Ludwig sound are perfect for each other!!!! Can’t wait to see what you both bring to the new relationship...
Really excited to hear you’re with Ludwig. They’re lucky to have you and I believe you’ll do a lot for their credibility amongst a different clientele than they’re used to. Great playing & sounds as always.
That “cheap” student aluminum 5” is one of my all time favourites. You must have the muffle fully engaged or a lug detuned. They all sound fantastic and I still say you have the best closed stroke roll in the business. Edit: correct spell check; detuned, not destined
Congratulations! What a great move for both parties. I wish you all the best with them. You’ve got such great touch and tuning understanding you could be playing an incognito Walmart kit and we’d all still be gushing over your playing. It wouldn’t be good for you of course, but we’d still dig it.
That's cool that you're a Ludwig artist. The drums that I want to get are Ludwig drums. I started playing drums at a young age of 7 years old at church for the children's ministry then in high school I played in the marching band and the jazz band. The funny thing is that those drums were all Ludwig drums. I've had drum kits before of other name brands but never a Ludwig kit. That is my dream to have my very own Ludwig drums. 😊
While i understand the move from a business and career perspective , i will miss the kits and snares you have been playing before. I know you will be sounding great on Ludwig but i think your previous kits and especially snares gave your sound an unique character.
carter mclean is on matt chamberlain's level in terms of taste / creativity / musicianship -- all of which are limitless. he's got billy martin's grease and tommy igoe's hands. just awesome. i'm just a total fanboy.
I still play out with my beat up and abused 1970 Ludwig Standard drums. There is magic in that mahogany/poplar/mahogany combination. For best results...TUNE THEM LOW! : )
1959buddyh these are maple/poplar/maple shells, and really sing at medium/higher tunings. The low tuning doesn’t really translate on the club dates like the legacy’s or classic maples
@@Paisteconvert you might be right about that actually. I know that the reissues are maple/poplar but I’m not sure about the original shells. Might be why I could never get the newer ones to go as low as I wanted
Incredible playing and sound.Would love to see a vid how you tune your drums and how you are recoding them. Belated congrads on your endorsement with Ludwig.
Congrats and welcome to the Ludwig family!!! I’ve been with them for a few years now and Uli and Ryan are the shit!!! They’ll take great care of you!!! Love your vids!!!
Got a 1960 12x15 club date floor tom coming to finish of a 12/20 WFL club date i recently picked up. As they are, they sound great...deep and mellow. Need to rewrap or paint them....not sure Duco finish or a classic wrap. Club date fan poll: What's the best color to do a club date in?...
This was my first kit (also in red sparkle) from 1968. The only difference was it had an Acrolite snare. I have a fondness for these drums; maybe I need to go out and get another set!
I have a 65 club date sky blue pearl since then I have other sets but want to keep going back to the club date. Just has a different sound. My biggest mistake I traded the original snare for an 8 lug supraphonic. I should have kept the original snare otherwise it’s all original. Love your sound and videos.
Those god damn hi hats its like buttery trash i love it lucky person your are i hope to 1 day have a sponsorship.you got that kit dialed in nice playin new subscriber
I love Ludwig Drums so much, I hope to own a Classic Maple, Legacy Maple, or Keystone X. It doesn’t matter which series of kit it is at this point, I see all of these videos of people playing Ludwig and it hurts haha! I need to make it happen somehow! Great sounding Club Date Kit my man, the best! Welcome to the Ludwig fam once again, fantastic playing!
You’re such a huge inspiration. You’re talented and come across with such humbleness and respect for music and drums. Just curious do you have any videos on tuning? You always make everything sound so good! Keep up the hard work!
Makes me want to pull out my Ludwigs :) Could you tell me what ride and hats you used here? I love the washy control of both. (Looked through comments and description to make sure someone didn’t already ask/provide) Thanks again for all of your wonderful content!
I own the same red sparkle '67 club date but with a 15" floortom that is a couple years older! Incredible drums!! But I'm curious, do you feel that any of the present day Ludwig's give you that same feel/sound?
That would be my dream drumset , if it wasn’t yours ! Love the simple layout and your sumptuous playing ! I’d love to know what cymbals you used . As a quid pro quo , I use a Dream ‘Contact’ 24” small bell flat ride and a 14” Sabian XS20 med top over a Dream ‘Bliss’ 14” top hi-hat cymbals - the Dream is slightly undersized ! Another hugely enjoyable video , Mr. M , thank you
what heads are you using on the toms and snare?? i have a Ludwig Standard 1971 kit and 70s Acrolite snare and wanna try to get close to this sound. obviously your technique is also incredible, real enjoyable video!
I don't understand why you have so few subscribers Carter. Unbelievable chops and tremendous feel. Easily one of my favourite drummers. Love the new kit btw.
agree!!
Ditto! Been a long time subscriber, and I can't believe the subs counter isn't climbing...unexplainable!
TheBradge “almost” 10k for a drummer like Carter is too few imo. I think that’s what we think :)
@TheBradge When someone like Coop3rdrumm3r (bellow average drummer) has so many subscribers, it is quite understandable that people are wondering why Carter has so few views.

Seb B. Of course, that’s part of it for sure.

Love that "crashy" sound of the hi-hats!
As a vintage 1960s Ludwig drums player myself, I'm pleased to see this.
Uhh, that was my first set but burgundy sparkle. Then added 22" bass and 13 and16" toms. I went through my Ginger Baker phase. Later added a 24" bass in my Bonham wanna be phase! I wish I kept them all!
You seem to tune every single kit you have played perfectly
i think this is your best sounding video ever. those drums are unbelievable...jesus! awesome playing
Agreed. Tremendous tone !! Stellar chops !!
beautiful playing and sound! Love it!
My two favorite TH-cam drummers meet 🙂
Ludwig and yourself will make the perfect combination....your tasty grooves and the classic Ludwig sound are perfect for each other!!!! Can’t wait to see what you both bring to the new relationship...
Really excited to hear you’re with Ludwig. They’re lucky to have you and I believe you’ll do a lot for their credibility amongst a different clientele than they’re used to. Great playing & sounds as always.
I've got '71 Standards and they are beautiful. Ludwig!
I love the open sound of this kit.
aaaaand.... the price of Ludwig standard snares just went up on eBay. Can’t wait to see all of your new gear!
beautiful playing full of musicianship
I always enjoy listening to you. Wish you made more videos.
All of the tunings sound so distinct and awesome!
Ur simple amazing.... very graceful drummer
Uh-oh..... Y'all know that drums are important, but it's really all about the Groovinator! Carter is Carter, like no other! Blessings!!!
That “cheap” student aluminum 5” is one of my all time favourites. You must have the muffle fully engaged or a lug detuned. They all sound fantastic and I still say you have the best closed stroke roll in the business.

I have the same snare, and it sound great i love it.
I for one can't wait to hear you demo all the cool new stuff Ludwig is releasing this year.
Congratulations! What a great move for both parties. I wish you all the best with them. You’ve got such great touch and tuning understanding you could be playing an incognito Walmart kit and we’d all still be gushing over your playing. It wouldn’t be good for you of course, but we’d still dig it.
Great "low-tuning" sound...! Awesome drummer, of course...!
That's cool that you're a Ludwig artist. The drums that I want to get are Ludwig drums. Out of all the rigs I’ve seen you play at, this has to sound the sweetest
They sound great. That ride is a beaut
Those drums sound amazing! Very tasteful playing !! 🤘🏻
Great feel and tone. You’re a fantastic drummer.
That set seriously sounds like a bass line
My absolute favorite sound in the world daaayum
Smoothest man ever.
Good year! That kit has some attitude and is Way better than the other one. 😉 Congrats on the move to Ludwig.
Them drums sound awesome!!!
And you play so well.
Love the new drums, love your playing! Congrats on the move!!
While i understand the move from a business and career perspective , i will miss the kits and snares you have been playing before. I know you will be sounding great on Ludwig but i think your previous kits and especially snares gave your sound an unique character.
Frozd thank you! I think what A LOT Of people miss is that ...... the person playing the instrument BRINGS the character.
Sounds amazing!
Back to the shining past!
Amazing sound, as always Carter!
Carter....hot, sweet n sticky grooves man. Whole kitt sounds are epic. More please! Congrats....Ludwig is lucky to have you.
Oh man... as soon as you got that snare into wet-paper-bag territory my mouth started watering!
Jeeeeez!!!! wicked sound !
Recently picked up a set of ‘65 club dates. They sound awesome, great drums. Cheers Carter~
These drums have to be one of the best I ever heard in my life. Can't wait for more.
Great showing the detuning of the kick 🙌🏼.
Super smooth as always - a pleasure to watch and listen
carter mclean is on matt chamberlain's level in terms of taste / creativity / musicianship -- all of which are limitless. he's got billy martin's grease and tommy igoe's hands. just awesome. i'm just a total fanboy.
That comparison is a reach, imo. Hyperbole.
I still play out with my beat up and abused 1970 Ludwig Standard drums.
There is magic in that mahogany/poplar/mahogany combination.
For best results...TUNE THEM LOW! : )
NO! Low tuning SUCKS! Medium is far better than anything.
1959buddyh these are maple/poplar/maple shells, and really sing at medium/higher tunings. The low tuning doesn’t really translate on the club dates like the legacy’s or classic maples
@@erikaylesworth91 You sure these are maple/poplar/maple shells. Most Club Dates were made in the mahogany/poplar/mahogany (white interior paint) era.
@@Paisteconvert you might be right about that actually. I know that the reissues are maple/poplar but I’m not sure about the original shells. Might be why I could never get the newer ones to go as low as I wanted
Congratulation on your move, Carter! I have a new set of club dates and I couldn't be happier. ... Looking forward to your new sounds!
Carter "Clean" McLean at it again
Love you touch on the kit.
Incredible playing and sound.Would love to see a vid how you tune your drums and how you are recoding them. Belated congrads on your endorsement with Ludwig.
Fantastic!
That Ludwig aluminum Standard snare drum sounds really nice..
Outstanding!
Congrats and welcome to the Ludwig family!!! I’ve been with them for a few years now and Uli and Ryan are the shit!!! They’ll take great care of you!!! Love your vids!!!
George Rebelo Thanks!!!! I’m very very excited to be working with Ludwig
Very tasteful drumming!
Congrats! Sounds great as always 👌🏽🎶🔥🥁
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful sounding kit and playing. Congrats on the endorsement.

what a beauty! 😍

Masterful groove and tone as always. Bravo!
Fantastic! When tuned tight, they totally remind me of that classic Art Blakey sound. Congrats on the endorsement, Carter!
Beautiful kit. I knew it was going to sound this great as soon as you said you were switching to Ludwig.
Those god damn hi hats its like buttery trash i love it lucky person your are i hope to 1 day have a sponsorship.you got that kit dialed in nice playin new subscriber
Sounds incredible!!! Zejus!
What a badass - switching brands whenever he feels like. :D
Congrats!

This guy could make a cardboard box sound amazing!
such tasteful playing as usual man, glad you're happy with the kit aswell, looking forward to more videos
🤤🤤🤤 lol love it man, I could watch you drum all day!
I was made in '67 but I don't sound like that :-)
My dads got those in white marine pearl
Hey for real glad u rocked it . niguhboo no cay
That's a beautiful kit. Thank you for sharing it with us, Carter.
What cymbal is that? I love the sound of it, too.
IMO Bass drum would benefit from a v small added damper of some kind, like a small feather pillow laid against both heads, but lightly!
awesome! i have a 70's gretsch 13 16 22 that i'm trying to get into the ballpark of your second tuning... obviously you make it look easy :)
Smooth as always, brother
The Standard model snares sure are nice! I prefer them to the Supraphonic myself.
Congratulations! Hope it opens lots of new doors for you but not so many you don't have time for videos.
Wow! I thought you were a Dunnett endorser. Whatever. You're a FANTASTC drummer!
Charles Primm he made the switch
Hallo.I have a big request, how did you tune floir tom in low tining?top and reso head?I have the same kit and low tuning sound is great.thak you🙏🙏🙏

Guey, tocas MUY chingón.
I want a club date in aged onyx, paired with a black beauty!
You’re such a huge inspiration. You’re talented and come across with such humbleness and respect for music and drums. Just curious do you have any videos on tuning? You always make everything sound so good! Keep up the hard work!
JamesPlev thanks so much!
He's put up a tuning video now.
Professor Max Roach, is that you in there?
great drummer! are those for sale?
Makes me want to pull out my Ludwigs :)
Could you tell me what ride and hats you used here? I love the washy control of both. (Looked through comments and description to make sure someone didn’t already ask/provide)
Thanks again for all of your wonderful content!
what is difference between these 60's club dates and blue olive badge 60's club dates?
I own the same red sparkle '67 club date but with a 15" floortom that is a couple years older! Incredible drums!!
But I'm curious, do you feel that any of the present day Ludwig's give you that same feel/sound?
Killer set. What are the dimensions?
That would be my dream drumset ,
if it wasn’t yours !
M , thank you
I think he's using Istanbul Agop, not sure which exact series
How much would you say one of these kits would be worth in decent condition if I were to find one today? Like a 65
what hi hat is that?
Vintage ambassadors on tom and floor?
what heads are you using on the toms and snare?? i have a Ludwig Standard 1971 kit and 70s Acrolite snare and wanna try to get close to this sound. obviously your technique is also incredible, real enjoyable video!
Oh. Tick tick uh tink ah tinc uuhh poohh. Hell yeahyass
