And she loves Montreal. When she first got there she told me “they are all very friendly, just like Céline Dion” (as you know sometimes the French have the reputation of being “grincheux”) and Celine Dion always seems überhappy and friendly to the French. Enjoy your new life up there and I can’t wait to see how you like the dual culture.

Congrats on the move! We (me American, husband Belgian) moved from the Brussels area to Quebec City 14 months ago. After 10 years in BXL it was a huge change. The accent and vocabulary, the education system, the (inaccessible) health care system are all so different, plus new jobs and trying to make new friends after so long, but we are feeling much more settled now. I definitely could relate to all your videos about adjusting to life in francophone Europe and will definitely appreciate the same about your experiences in Québec. Québec City and the Charlevoix region are definitely worth a trip! All the best to you and your family for this experience.
My family is French Canadian. I've been living in Australia for many years. My advice - be prepared for the difference between your accent and the Canadian accent (and the cultural implications). Your husband will experience this more viscerally than you will, I expect. Should be an interesting ride! Good luck with the new adventure.
Great advice! It's really varied depending on who is talking to me how easy it is for me to understand. I'm sure i'll get used to it, but for now I've really got to concentrate when someone is speaking!

Coming from Toronto where everything is huge and spread out. This is a great change. I live by la gare so it’s walking distance to everything. Plus the winters for me are not really winter. Lol.

Montreal is built for humans , with green public spaces, streets f for pedestrians , the canadian capital of culture , 400 tears of history , best food and way better quality of life then Toronto .
@@jeanbolduc5818 actually Toronto has a sense of community. There are communities inside the city. I lived in the Junction which would be considered downtown now a days. But for me as I lived there from the age of 3-39 it was not. It was just on the cusp of down town. But it was in its self a little community.

Congrats on your move! The Botanic Gardens remains a family favorite as well as Place Jacques-Cartier to people watch. (When my daughter was young she loved to count the brides getting their wedding photos done. I think the record was 11 in an hour.) Check out the free museum days. It's a great way to see a lot and decide where to return. I'd also learn the underground routes fast to avoid freezing. My favorite time is spring when the city starts to warm up and people are joyous to be outside. The number of flowers on every balcony, cafe, etc. is beautiful.
Welcome to Canada! Alas, I live at the other side and have only been to the Montreal airport.... but everyone says it's the most exciting, cosmopolitan city in Canada. I really hope you enjoy your time, as well as the culture, history, food and fashion! PS I would love for you to keep going - despite being Canadian as you may have surmised from the previous sentences I don't have any first-hand knowledge of Montreal. I'd be fascinated to learn more about how you experience the different cultures, e.g, Anglo-French, the very different legal system, history etc that makes Quebec so different from other places in NA.
Congrats on the move! My parents are great travelers, and I enjoyed taking a trip with them to Montreal a while back. My mom & I both speak French (we’re American) and we both enjoyed speaking French while visiting Montreal. Quebec City was so memorable, although when we were there it was so so cold… In Montreal, I recommend that you visit the Cirque du Soleil headquarters. We were so lucky when we visited - it was on the one day out of the year that they offer tours of the Cirque du Soleil HQ. It was such an inspiring & fascinating place - hope you can check it out while you’re there! I enjoy your channel as we have the French American connection & I’m also an expat - I’m married to a Kiwi and we live in NZ now, so yes, I understand about all the work it takes moving to a new country! Congratulations on the move! I'm a Franco-American who grew up in France, and I studied in Montreal for undergrad! I went to McGill and the area around campus was a bit of a bubble, but when I stayed there over the summer I got to experience the city a bit more. From my experience, the culture is not nearly as French / European as some would think, you really are still in North America. The only things that make it like France are the language and the less positive attitude of the quebecois. I also felt some understandable resentment of the tens of thousands of French ppl who move there and jack up the prices / compete for jobs - in some ways, you're better off being an American who happens to speak French. But overall it is an amazing city, especially in the summer - you're in for a real treat come June. I loved my time there, and look forward to seeing your Montreal content if you make it!

I'm originally French Canadian, now infected by DNA of the Australian species. Haven't lived in Canada for many years and my French was never much good. Have visited Paris a few times (I dream of living there) and tried to speak my best French while there - sort of neutral, without the Québécois twang. Some Parisians can be snobby about "mongrel" (Québécois) pronunciation. A couple of people were astonishingly rude, one laughed out loud at my pronunciation of a single word. A very mild form of discrimination, but interesting. I wonder what it will be like from the Canadian end!?
@@gaellegarcin401 but like 99.9% of the french are. Coming from someone who lives in France and speaks the language at a fairly intermediate level. I can count on one hand how many French have been respectful/polite to me, even when speaking french and following all the conversation rules
Ottawa is not in Quebec... Their franco-ontarien accent is different that in Quebec... That being said, I'm Québécoise and work for a french multinational... my french colleagues have no issue understanding me... I mean it's like saying that Americans and British can't understand each other...
Hi! I am a Montreal girl born and raised. Just moved to the U.S, 1 year ago. Here are some musts: Go to Melk, best coffee and pastries ever :) Got to eat at Mandy's, amazing salads and other goodies! The whole St-Laurent,/St-Denis/ Mile end area is awesome. Go hang out/ discover the Old port and Westmount....just great areas. Atwater market is a must.

Congratulations! I am french and living in Mtl for 3 years now, this city is anazing I hope you and your family will enjoy it !! My favorite restaurants are : Momo Sushi, India Rosa, Stella Pizza, but you woll find a lot a amazing restaurants here :) In term of activities in winter you can go ice skating in Parc Lafontaine, Parc Jean Drapeau on the island in front of Mtl is really nice as well with a beautiful view on the city, of course going on the top of Mont Royal too. Taking a walk in le Plateau, Outremont, petite Italie, around the Marché Jean Talon … the best neigberhood to live in my opinion ! Enjoy Mtl :)

Welcome to Montréal! Our daughter is a student at McGill and we love visiting her at school. We’d recommend visiting both markets; (Atwater and Jean Talon). The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts is amazing. We love “Aura,” the light show at Norte Dame. You have to eat at Schwarz’s Deli (try the smoked meat!) Cafe Santropol is one of our daughter’s favorites for vegan options. There are a bunch of great options in Old Town. Good luck!

Yes please to the comparison content! I lived in Villeray, MTL for a few months. Outside of the amazing parks (all of them), I highly recommend Marché Jean Talon, OASIS immersion and the botanical garden. OASIS had a Van Gogh immersion (maybe it’s still going on) and it was fantastic and very child friendly! My baby loved it. Same with the botanical gardens- I went both during the day and at night for a special light show. It’s incredible and worth the trip. It’s a beautiful city, enjoy ☺️
Oh wow! HI Mam’selle and welcome to Montreal - I’ve lived here for 35 years. I can totally recommend places to visit and I hope y’all love to hike - there are many lovely parks around here. You can also ski or do camping or kayaking/canoeing in the summer :) But I must say that when you can you need head over to Quebec city - the only walled city in existence in North America!!! It is a magical place whether in Summer or Winter..and the Carnaval de Quebec is starting soon!! I also recommend checking out the indigenous cultures and festivals POW WOW;s - Around Montreal is the Mohawk first Nations and in Quebec city there is a gorgeous Hotel and Museum called the Wendat-Huron First nations Hotel and Museum, very special and unique place. As well there is L’Ile D’Orleans…ouf I could go on and on…oh yes and must visit Charlevoix and Le Parc Du BIc up near Rimouski! Gorgeous. Anyway Bienvenue au Quebec - Profitez-en bien!
I'm originally from Montreal but live in Vancouver, Canada now - I was in Montreal for Christmas to visit with my son, who moved there from Ottawa 2 years ago. Places to visit - Bagel Etc. for great Brunch (used to be a hang out for Leonard Cohen - its near Racheal Street and St. Laurent) There is a lovely Tea Room on St. Laurent Street called - Le Cardinal - Wonderful atmosphere - I grew up in Vieux Montreal - explore - it has the most European feeling and I do miss that the most here in Vancouver!

I have a feeling that Québécois French is sometimes quite different to France French, so it will be really interesting to see if you notice a difference. I’m sure you will! I think actually that people in France don’t like Québécois, but that might be a myth, not sure 🤔 I’ve been to Montreal a few times and the city is AMAZING!
You mean the accent, we speak french . Like in english, depending on your education , some speak a better french in Quebec than in France ..Quebecois is not a language . We dont expect compliments from people in Ontario since it is unilingual in english and treats french like second class citizens in the education sytem and i cannot be serve in french in Toronto ..French from France are using english words and they sound horrible.

Hello! I'm french, from the suburbs of Paris, and I live in Montreal. We've been here for the past 5 years with my husband, and now we have a little 1 year old. Montreal grew on me. I was never really a fan of winter, and I never expected much of this city ahah. But I feel that living here is the best for our small family. Once you start to know your neighborhood, the city, your favorite café, the spots you walk with your kids, the amazing restaurant scene and the weekend getaways, life is just so much more relaxed compared with Paris (a city I absolutely LOVED living in just before I moved to MTL). My advice would be : walk a lot around different areas, take your time, do NOT compare with previous experiences because living here is a whole new thing, and tell yourself it's ok if you don't love everything right away. And please be curious of the food scene and, if you drink alcohol, the wine bars and the microbreweries ;) Feel free to reach out to me :) Bienvenue!
Congratulations ! I left Paris about 5 years ago for Montreal and I could not be happier. Getting my CA citizenship in a few weeks ! Montreal is really the sweet spot between europe/north america and english/french. Bonne chance !

Sinon, comme c'est l'hiver, il y a plein de supers endroits pour faire du patin, notamment dans les parcs, il suffit de checker le site de la ville. I am currently taking French classes and the teacher is insisting we learn Quebecois French since we live in this country. She from, time to time, will give us the Parisian version of words or phrases and make sure we know that you would not say it this way in Quebec, but if you travel to France this is how you must speak. I'm Canadian and lived in Toronto for most of my life but have visited Montreal many times and it's very charming. The biggest difference climate wise is that the winters in Montreal get a lot more snow than Paris. A trip to Mont-Tremblant located in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, ,( approximately 130 kilometres) from Montreal would be great thing to do over a long weekend. You can down hill ski. cross country ski or go dogsledding. Lots of choice. Welcome!

Oh also.. important tip...Crosswalks in Quebec, while technically mean the same thing as elsewhere in Canada and the US, drivers don't necessarilly obey them as diligently.They are more like a "heads up to drivers that people might be crossing here" instead of "yield immediately to pedestrians". So safety tip..look both ways and make sure the drivers are stopping for you before you step out.
Wow! Congratulations on your move! My husband and I spent a month in Montreal and five in Quebec during the winter/spring. I cried when I saw the first budding leaves on the trees (it was so cold!) We were there back in 2010, so any info I have would be obsolete, unfortunately. We live in Montpellier, France, now. I think you should continue your channel, if you can- "Unintentionally Frenchified" is still valid for French Canada living :) I would love to see more content, especially comparisons between the language and lifestyle.

So excited to get new content from you with this new perspective. As a french woman I first lived 6 years in Quebec before moving to Vancouver. I am super curious to ear about your experience in Montreal and hope you get to learn the Quebecois language (it's quite a different french but as lovely as my mother-tong)! And especially meet people from Quebec! Newcomers from France usually tend to keep to themselves on the Plateau which is a shame...
Good thing you got your health issues dealt with before coming to MTL; they have a huge backlog. I would start looking to get onto a waitlist for a doctor right away, I lived there for years and never managed to get one. But, Montreal is my favourite city in Canada! (Though the winters are rough). Favourite restaurant: Ile flottante. Les Grands Ballets has great shows, both modern and classical. Montreal really comes alive in the summer, there will still be cool events in winter, but don't fret if the winters seem a bit dull. Truly and endless amount of cool and unique events come summer. The many many potholes are a running joke.

Welcome! Coming from another french speaking country, it took me some time to adjust to the accent. Many neighgouhoods to visit outside of dowtown. Le Plateau and some parts of Rosemont have a big french expat population. I love walking jean-talon street (mainly in spring or summer) because it crosses so many different parts of town and therefore many cultures (italien, north african, haitian, latin amaerican, south asian, jewish, etc). The metro gets you mostly in the busy sections of town but if you have a car, don't hesitate to explore outside.
Welcome to Montreal my home town. Like every city there is good and bad side. I can already tell you that after 3 years you will really think differently about this city. So run it for you and let you experience it.
Félicitations! My wife and I love Quebec and were just in Quebec City for our 42nd anniversary. We plan to explore Montreal next, now that the Covid restrictions have been lifted. It's a relatively easy drive from our home in Buffalo. I'll be curious to see how you navigate the language peculiarities and to learn more about your family's new life in the beautiful North (as well as getting tips on visiting the region).
Glad you are feeling better. I would love to see Montreal through your channel. I was scheduled to go there for a conference in 2019, but COVID hit. I really enjoyed Toronto, but the Montreal scene would be great to see in preparation for a visit.
Congrats on making it to Canada, and healthy again. I lived across the border in Burlington, Vt. for several years, which is a great place about 90 min. away to visit, not just near the mts. but in the summer. The Lake Champlain islands are wonderful. In Montreal I can recommend "Bienvenue" as a BnB for any visitors that come to see you.

I am from Paris, France, moved to the US in MN when I met my husband. My sister went to study in Montreal, Canada and stayed for work. And she loves Montreal. When she first got there she told me “they are all very friendly, just like Céline Dion” (as you know sometimes the French have the reputation of being “grincheux”) and Celine Dion always seems überhappy and friendly to the French.

Congrats on the move! We (me American, husband Belgian) moved from the Brussels area to Quebec City 14 months ago. After 10 years in BXL it was a huge change. The accent and vocabulary, the education system, the (inaccessible) health care system are all so different, plus new jobs and trying to make new friends after so long, but we are feeling much more settled now. I definitely could relate to all your videos about adjusting to life in francophone Europe and will definitely appreciate the same about your experiences in Québec. Québec City and the Charlevoix region are definitely worth a trip! All the best to you and your family for this experience.
My family is French Canadian. I've been living in Australia for many years. My advice - be prepared for the difference between your accent and the Canadian accent (and the cultural implications). Your husband will experience this more viscerally than you will, I expect. Should be an interesting ride! Good luck with the new adventure.
Great advice! It's really varied depending on who is talking to me how easy it is for me to understand. I'm sure i'll get used to it, but for now I've really got to concentrate when someone is speaking!

I have lived here for 2yr and I love it. Still struggling with my French… The city is perfect size with everything you want to do at its finger tips. Coming from Toronto where everything is huge and spread out. This is a great change. I live by la gare so it’s walking distance to everything. Plus the winters for me are not really winter. Lol.

Montreal is built for humans , with green public spaces, streets f for pedestrians , the canadian capital of culture , 400 tears of history , best food and way better quality of life then Toronto .
@@jeanbolduc5818 actually Toronto has a sense of community. There are communities inside the city. I lived in the Junction which would be considered downtown now a days. But for me as I lived there from the age of 3-39 it was not. It was just on the cusp of down town. But it was in its self a little community.

Congrats on your move! The Botanic Gardens remains a family favorite as well as Place Jacques-Cartier to people watch. (When my daughter was young she loved to count the brides getting their wedding photos done. I think the record was 11 in an hour.) Check out the free museum days. It's a great way to see a lot and decide where to return. I'd also learn the underground routes fast to avoid freezing. My favorite time is spring when the city starts to warm up and people are joyous to be outside. The number of flowers on every balcony, cafe, etc. is beautiful.
Welcome to Canada! Alas, I live at the other side and have only been to the Montreal airport.... but everyone says it's the most exciting, cosmopolitan city in Canada. I really hope you enjoy your time, as well as the culture, history, food and fashion! PS I would love for you to keep going - despite being Canadian as you may have surmised from the previous sentences I don't have any first-hand knowledge of Montreal. I'd be fascinated to learn more about how you experience the different cultures, e.g, Anglo-French, the very different legal system, history etc that makes Quebec so different from other places in NA.
Congrats on the move! My parents are great travelers, and I enjoyed taking a trip with them to Montreal a while back. My mom & I both speak French (we’re American) and we both enjoyed speaking French while visiting Montreal. Quebec City was so memorable, although when we were there it was so so cold… In Montreal, I recommend that you visit the Cirque du Soleil headquarters. We were so lucky when we visited - it was on the one day out of the year that they offer tours of the Cirque du Soleil HQ. It was such an inspiring & fascinating place - hope you can check it out while you’re there! I enjoy your channel as we have the French American connection & I’m also an expat - I’m married to a Kiwi and we live in NZ now, so yes, I understand about all the work it takes moving to a new country! Congratulations on the move! I'm a Franco-American who grew up in France, and I studied in Montreal for undergrad! I went to McGill and the area around campus was a bit of a bubble, but when I stayed there over the summer I got to experience the city a bit more. From my experience, the culture is not nearly as French / European as some would think, you really are still in North America. The only things that make it like France are the language and the less positive attitude of the quebecois. I also felt some understandable resentment of the tens of thousands of French ppl who move there and jack up the prices / compete for jobs - in some ways, you're better off being an American who happens to speak French. But overall it is an amazing city, especially in the summer - you're in for a real treat come June. I loved my time there, and look forward to seeing your Montreal content if you make it!

I'm originally French Canadian, now infected by DNA of the Australian species. Haven't lived in Canada for many years and my French was never much good. Have visited Paris a few times (I dream of living there) and tried to speak my best French while there - sort of neutral, without the Québécois twang. Some Parisians can be snobby about "mongrel" (Québécois) pronunciation. A couple of people were astonishingly rude, one laughed out loud at my pronunciation of a single word. A very mild form of discrimination, but interesting. I wonder what it will be like from the Canadian end!?

@@gaellegarcin401 but like 99.9% of the french are. Coming from someone who lives in France and speaks the language at a fairly intermediate level. I can count on one hand how many French have been respectful/polite to me, even when speaking french and following all the conversation rules
Ottawa is not in Quebec... Their franco-ontarien accent is different that in Quebec... That being said, I'm Québécoise and work for a french multinational... my french colleagues have no issue understanding me... I mean it's like saying that Americans and British can't understand each other...

Go to Melk, best coffee and pastries ever :) Got to eat at Mandy's, amazing salads and other goodies! The whole St-Laurent,/St-Denis/ Mile end area is awesome. Go hang out/ discover the Old port and Westmount....just great areas. Atwater market is a must.
How exciting. Many of my 1st cousins from Paris moved to Montreal decades ago. I love the place but winters are hard. Congrats on your move. .

My favorite restaurants are : Momo Sushi, India Rosa, Stella Pizza, but you woll find a lot a amazing restaurants here :)
In term of activities in winter you can go ice skating in Parc Lafontaine, Parc Jean Drapeau on the island in front of Mtl is really nice as well with a beautiful view on the city, of course going on the top of Mont Royal too.
Taking a walk in le Plateau, Outremont, petite Italie, around the Marché Jean Talon … the best neigberhood to live in my opinion !

We’d recommend visiting both markets; (Atwater and Jean Talon). The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts is amazing. We love “Aura,” the light show at Norte Dame.
You have to eat at Schwarz’s Deli (try the smoked meat!) Cafe Santropol is one of our daughter’s favorites for vegan options. There are a bunch of great options in Old Town. Good luck!

I lived in Villeray, MTL for a few months. Outside of the amazing parks (all of them), I highly recommend Marché Jean Talon, OASIS immersion and the botanical garden. OASIS had a Van Gogh immersion (maybe it’s still going on) and it was fantastic and very child friendly! My baby loved it. Same with the botanical gardens- I went both during the day and at night for a special light show. It’s incredible and worth the trip. It’s a beautiful city, enjoy ☺️
Oh wow! HI Mam’selle and welcome to Montreal - I’ve lived here for 35 years. I can totally recommend places to visit and I hope y’all love to hike - there are many lovely parks around here. You can also ski or do camping or kayaking/canoeing in the summer :) But I must say that when you can you need head over to Quebec city - the only walled city in existence in North America!!! It is a magical place whether in Summer or Winter..and the Carnaval de Quebec is starting soon!! I also recommend checking out the indigenous cultures and festivals POW WOW;s - Around Montreal is the Mohawk first Nations and in Quebec city there is a gorgeous Hotel and Museum called the Wendat-Huron First nations Hotel and Museum, very special and unique place. As well there is L’Ile D’Orleans…ouf I could go on and on…oh yes and must visit Charlevoix and Le Parc Du BIc up near Rimouski! Gorgeous. Anyway Bienvenue au Quebec - Profitez-en bien!
I'm originally from Montreal but live in Vancouver, Canada now - I was in Montreal for Christmas to visit with my son, who moved there from Ottawa 2 years ago. Places to visit - Bagel Etc. for great Brunch (used to be a hang out for Leonard Cohen - its near Racheal Street and St. Laurent) There is a lovely Tea Room on St. Laurent Street called - Le Cardinal - Wonderful atmosphere - I grew up in Vieux Montreal - explore - it has the most European feeling and I do miss that the most here in Vancouver!

I have a feeling that Québécois French is sometimes quite different to France French, so it will be really interesting to see if you notice a difference. I’m sure you will! You mean the accent, we speak french . Like in english, depending on your education , some speak a better french in Quebec than in France ..Quebecois is not a language . We dont expect compliments from people in Ontario since it is unilingual in english and treats french like second class citizens in the education sytem and i cannot be serve in french in Toronto ..French from France are using english words and they sound horrible.

I’ve never lived in Montreal, so I can’t make any recommendations. However, if you have the chance, you should come out west and experience the Rocky Mountains. Welcome to Canada!
Hello! I'm french, from the suburbs of Paris, and I live in Montreal. We've been here for the past 5 years with my husband, and now we have a little 1 year old. Montreal grew on me. I was never really a fan of winter, and I never expected much of this city ahah. But I feel that living here is the best for our small family. Once you start to know your neighborhood, the city, your favorite café, the spots you walk with your kids, the amazing restaurant scene and the weekend getaways, life is just so much more relaxed compared with Paris (a city I absolutely LOVED living in just before I moved to MTL). My advice would be : walk a lot around different areas, take your time, do NOT compare with previous experiences because living here is a whole new thing, and tell yourself it's ok if you don't love everything right away. And please be curious of the food scene and, if you drink alcohol, the wine bars and the microbreweries ;)

Parmi mes restos préférés: Sushis momo, Yokato yokabai (ramen), Maison mademoiselle dumplings... Sinon, comme c'est l'hiver, il y a plein de supers endroits pour faire du patin, notamment dans les parcs, il suffit de checker le site de la ville. Tu verras que Montréal est vraiment unique et très différente de la France et des États-Unis et très multiculturelle 🙂

I love Montreal…such a great city. There is so much you can explore there…the food, architecture, people, history, schools, language,difference from France, Quebec City etc. Glad your health problems are better and I look forward to your videos from Canada! What an adventure!

I'm Canadian and lived in Toronto for most of my life but have visited Montreal many times and it's very charming. The biggest difference climate wise is that the winters in Montreal get a lot more snow than Paris. A trip to Mont-Tremblant located in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, ,( approximately 130 kilometres) from Montreal would be great thing to do over a long weekend. You can down hill ski. cross country ski or go dogsledding. Lots of choice. Welcome!

My hometown of Montreal is a great place to be in Canada..especially for you and your family. You and Robyn will have no problem intergrating. It's a blend of American and European culture that you don't necessarilly get anywhere else in Canada. Profit ma belle.
Oh also.. important tip...Crosswalks in Quebec, while technically mean the same thing as elsewhere in Canada and the US, drivers don't necessarilly obey them as diligently.They are more like a "heads up to drivers that people might be crossing here" instead of "yield immediately to pedestrians". So safety tip..look both ways and make sure the drivers are stopping for you before you step out.
Wow! Congratulations on your move! My husband and I spent a month in Montreal and five in Quebec during the winter/spring. I cried when I saw the first budding leaves on the trees (it was so cold!) We were there back in 2010, so any info I have would be obsolete, unfortunately. We live in Montpellier, France, now. I think you should continue your channel, if you can- "Unintentionally Frenchified" is still valid for French Canada living :) I would love to see more content, especially comparisons between the language and lifestyle.
Findland is the happiest country on earth and colder than Quebec and 2 months of darkness. We dont live in the north pole . It gets 35 c in the summer ... Tired of negative people . Thanks for moving back to France you will be happy there since they always complaint.

As a french woman I first lived 6 years in Quebec before moving to Vancouver. I am super curious to ear about your experience in Montreal and hope you get to learn the Quebecois language (it's quite a different french but as lovely as my mother-tong)! And especially meet people from Quebec! Newcomers from France usually tend to keep to themselves on the Plateau which is a shame...
Good thing you got your health issues dealt with before coming to MTL; they have a huge backlog. I would start looking to get onto a waitlist for a doctor right away, I lived there for years and never managed to get one. But, Montreal is my favourite city in Canada! (Though the winters are rough).
Favourite restaurant: Ile flottante. Les Grands Ballets has great shows, both modern and classical.
Montreal really comes alive in the summer, there will still be cool events in winter, but don't fret if the winters seem a bit dull. Truly and endless amount of cool and unique events come summer.
The many many potholes are a running joke.

Welcome! Coming from another french speaking country, it took me some time to adjust to the accent. Many neighgouhoods to visit outside of dowtown. Le Plateau and some parts of Rosemont have a big french expat population. I love walking jean-talon street (mainly in spring or summer) because it crosses so many different parts of town and therefore many cultures (italien, north african, haitian, latin amaerican, south asian, jewish, etc).
The metro gets you mostly in the busy sections of town but if you have a car, don't hesitate to explore outside.
How wonderful! What a fantastic hybrid location - Montreal! Plus Canada has a public sector health system too :)

Félicitations! My wife and I love Quebec and were just in Quebec City for our 42nd anniversary. We plan to explore Montreal next, now that the Covid restrictions have been lifted. It's a relatively easy drive from our home in Buffalo. I'll be curious to see how you navigate the language peculiarities and to learn more about your family's new life in the beautiful North (as well as getting tips on visiting the region).
Glad you are feeling better. I would love to see Montreal through your channel. I was scheduled to go there for a conference in 2019, but COVID hit. I really enjoyed Toronto, but the Montreal scene would be great to see in preparation for a visit.

Congrats on making it to Canada, and healthy again. I lived across the border in Burlington, Vt. for several years, which is a great place about 90 min. away to visit, not just near the mts. but in the summer. The Lake Champlain islands are wonderful. In Montreal I can recommend "Bienvenue" as a BnB for any visitors that come to see you.

My Daughter is American (California) and we started watching your channel when you talked about the French weddings. She is marrying a French Boy (Normandy) where the wedding will be in 2024. They live in the French District with many other French expats. You should connect, there is so much they can offer you and your Husband as well as you can possibly help with the wedding.
I have been watching your videos since you first started the channel, keep up the good work! Maybe you could make a video about the differences between the French and the French-Canadian mindset or the differences between the food.
