      @[insert clever username here] she made it that way for sure, but in general ballet dancers in schools also get selected by their body types. So good teaches know bodies that are "made for ballet" before they even turn them into proper ballerinas )

      @amanda.._.. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      E S Yeah. All the professional ballet schools want tall, slender, girls with long arms and legs. It’s hard to do ballet in a world where you need to have a certain body type in order to get encouraged.

      Gracie Laird Her feet are amazing indeed. That's what the height gave her in particular. Because I saw her in fast parts and she, despite her technique, danced like any tall dancer in the world: struggled to keep up that fast pace because of her long legs and arms. Like they were always left behind. I guess it's almost impossible to avoid that, can't say, because I am a dancer (not a ballerina) of 1.65 m, and although I am sad for not being taller, I was told my height was ok for dancing. In fact, my instructor is even smaller.

      @@serbanescusimona Many of us love the elegance and grace from that height advantage Zakharova posseses. her mastery of ballet is obvious at every move. It's like watching a giraffe move its long neck. We don't say that the giraffe is slow. We say they're graceful and thrilling. Sadly, at this time early 2023, there's only one place to see her perform, the Bolshoi, and few of us have access to Russia to do so. She's in her prime. I do hope this bar will be lifted soon. This amazement is lost to videos and interviews, not performances. Besides, tickets to the Bolshoi are surprisingly low priced, but the hotel will be the opposite. She is the star. There are a few others, but this one is so exciting, she takes my breath away, runs up my heart beats, and in my mind, I am clapping effusively.

    This takes more strength, coordination, concentration and exactness than any martial art. Svetlana is often criticized for the fact that she is unorthodox and doesn't conform to the "guidelines" of properly accepted ballet. To hell with all that! Svetlana is the best the world has ever seen and she is original. Ludwig was criticized for not conforming to the accepted format for the symphony. Afterwards, his format was mimicked and is now the world standard. Always be yourself. Real artist do not conform. They set the precedent.

    everyone seems to be commenting that she has less artistry and character than other ballet dancers? i think all dancers have a different way of portraying their role in a ballet & i don't think she should be being criticized because of different approach to a character.

    • @luceafarul579
      @luceafarul579 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Svetlana has a lot of artistry, the criticism came from the fact that she’s a bit stiff especially in the upper body. Her focus is on perfect lines, delicate footwork, and high extensions, these would inevitably make her dancing a bit stiff. But she is a fantastic actress who really becomes the character. Just watch her swan lake dance with Roberto Bolle, see how her facial expression changes. When she’s white swan vs black it really looks like she’s two completely different person, one innocent and delicate and the other evil and mischievous. Whereas every other dancer just makes their face look sad vs lots of smiling. That’s the difference between a true artist and somebody who just has a lot of good techniques

    Every time I read "too thin or skinny" I just roll my eyes. She's a BALLERINA! Ballerinas are supposed to look like this at least professional ones. So if you only comment on her looks and not her technique its like you were screaming "I ain't got a clue about ballet"

      +Mary Smith it is less abusive when you're a kid than starting when grown up. When you're small, it takes like 3 days to go from nothing to full split, while for adult, months. However, the strength and energy are what hard.

    Le développé à la Seconde should Not be overly open, this means that pushing the splits costs in techniques and correct posture, it's Not supposed to be NOT at degrees but lower in order to correctly rotate the leg and hold the leg up with the abdominals. Vaganova is definitely not my favorite methods, and the show off the Russian school pushes on stage oftentimes costs on posture, correct use of the splits in favor or exaggerations, and they tend to be way less interpretatives as compared to US, UK, and EU ballet dancers. This is from a biomechanical and gracefulness of interpretation perspective. Circus performers and gymnastas are Not ballet dancers because these are completely different forms of art.

    Okay- everyone- unless you are incredibly lucky- is going to have some sort of ailment that comes with old age- whether it's arthritis, heart issues, sight issues, stomach trouble- the list is literally endless- ballet, or any sport or activity does not necessarily cause arthritis or any other condition. I'm not saying it won't, but it doesn't always. And besides- anyone who participates in a physical activity when they're young and does it (safely) for as long as they want to, is going to be generally healthier than someone who has lead an overall sedentary lifestyle. I had to say it.

      A working ballerina will eat between 1600 and 2200 calories a day.
      2 poached eggs, muffin, prosciutto and a banana for breakfast.
      Fruit, yogurt, sandwich for lunch.
      Dinner would be a solid meal with protein and veggies, and maybe a few squares of chocolate and a glass of wine every other day.
      Not much?! Haha 😆 BUT, they burn it off fast.

    Without a doubt very beautiful and nice it definitely looks like hard work but she seems so sad as if she is just working dully something lonely and just never ending work with no enjoyment it seems stiff with no passion.

      calm down, these are just some warm up exercises. just because she looks concentrated and focused and does not constantly smile does not mean that she is lonely or sad.

      She is in her own little world. She does this every day. It’s like sitting down at your desk in an office & answering emails. It’s a routine she has done thousands of times over & over. She’s making sure her body is ready and warm. This is the mundane part of being a professional dancer.

    I love this ballet dancer; although, I always cringe when I see how much more thin she is compared to other dancers. However, that might actually be her natural body state, I don't know.

    I don't think she is that thin. Guys remember who she is and what she have done to be a professional ballerina. You need to know somebody's history before judging that person from her acts. Watch some documentary's about her, she is super professional!

    Even the famed ballerinas have known that film is one experience of the performance and the live stage is the other experience of the performance...I was astounded with the age of Margot Fonteyn's performance in Chopinana: her performance was not what you would experience as the same to what was captured on film. The depth and deminsion of the lines and style are just not the same of each ballerina. It is quite interesting to be caught with the perspective change of film vs. live stage performance. The artistry of ballet is conveyed and perpetuated in multiple nuances of a simple 8 count. Fascinating form is the ballet, especially when we come to the extraordinary talents that are the prima ballerinas and ballet danseurs...they can carry into a range not expected.
