  • The International Criminal Court has filed its first application for an arrest warrant against Myanmar's military leader and has flagged more will follow. A panel of three judges is deciding whether there are "reasonable grounds" to believe Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is criminally responsible for the deportation and persecution of Rohingya in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The ICC Prosecutor says he's seeking the warrant after extensive investigations into crimes against humanity, indicating more arrest warrants will follow. Chris Sidoti is a member of the Special Advisory Council on Myanmar. He told ABC's The World the allegations relate to the expulsion of around 700-thousand Rohingya Muslims in 2017 and 2018.
