If you check the credits, they are very specific about who did what, and you are right, it is almost always just them. I am very old and not a gamer, but it really doesn't matter. Even things I've never heard of sound wonderful from them.

Like you , I am not a kid anymore , and this was so 🔥 for me when it came out. If you had told me back then , that I would be overjoyed to hear this performed without instruments, I would have called a whack job. It is so - so - so good. Goosebumps throughout .. bang from Geoff .. Wow from Eli ... Oh my from Cesar -- are you serious ??? from Lane .. and then the young Anthony just slays the harmonies and slick runs. I loved this arrangement from the minute it was released. They gave the original their own spin plus try and work around the fact that they do not have guitars/instruments. Eli worked very hard on this Cyberpunk/future set! Thanks for the reaction 🌹🕊
For what it's worth, I'm in my 70's and definitely not a gamer - but I LOVE all of their gamer songs. They all seem to be great story telling, and while I may not know the inside subtext, I still follow the story line and love it. I suspect you'd be very similar and would appreciate them.
I don’t think you have to know the original to appreciate and enjoy their versions. I’ve learned that over time and some of my favorites of theirs I was clueless about 😂

I love when they get all experimental and theatrical but I also love when they just sing straight a Capella like "Heart of Life" "True Colors" "The Bones" "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl" "Butter" (okay Butter is a little chaotic and humorous) or the older live one shots sitting on a sofa "ACA Top 10s" as for the game songs you don't need to be a familiar with the source material to appreciate and enjoy a thing of beauty. Ceasar does an "electric guitar" in "Hellfire". In that one he has what looks like a special mic in his hand suggestive of a special mic to create the effect. At the end it does sound like there is more than one note layered for the guitar (I think you were correct: Geoff and Ceasar.) Street Corner Symphany (Adam Chance's former group) did an electric guitar with a megaphone prior to Pentatonix using one the same way in Bohemian Rhapsody. Also, BYU used an amp in one of their Transiberian Orchestra Christmas cover.
Some VoicePlay versions I like more than the originals, I do prefer the original for this song, Chris Cornell is hard to top. VP did do an awesome job on this though. 👍👍 One of my favorites from VP , is their cover of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" (from Disney's Encanto) feat Ashley Diane.

But the autotunes, the autocorrects... the production. The total "package" is done by filters in computers in a studio for probably at least the half of it. The thing is, with these productions, you can not tell how good and talented those people are, what their qualities are based on only this song. The only thing you can say for sure is that the mastermixing an afterproduction in the studio is done well. I'm absolutely sure they are very good, they have great voices. And I really don't know them, so it's just a "blanco" observation.
