Man, what a slog! That was rough! We have some areas like that, but it's mostly in shallow backwater areas where there's no current. Still beautiful scenery!! Well done, bro!!
@SouthernPaddler thank you! It was beautiful. That made it not so bad...but ya...had to suck it up and plow thru that one for miles! Type 2 fun...but still alot of fun. The most impressive thing was reading how locals literally pull that stuff out by hand...there's pics of them with canoes full of that crap...great people! People are good man...they really are. Thanks for watching...and the kind words
@CanoeCampClimb ya it was bad for miles..once I learned that with my skinny paddle to keep it in the water until the muck slid off behind me...then at least I was able to move thru it...but right at the end...I could see the open water...but that's where the thickest muck was for a good ways to get to it...lol...I've never seen anything like it except ponds that you don't go on...but that's a big river...I kept expecting it to end...and it just didn't lol...crazy
What's the lesson? Do it in the spring? Nice to see someone using a Greenland paddle. Oddly, that paddle (sans the ridiculous vegitation) reminds me of one of our local paddles on the Connecticut River. Cool video. Thanks.
@robgerety i would say maybe call the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge for water conditions... I was thinking the Spring is probably the time to do it...its beautiful. I found it on a Fingerlakes website as a recommended paddle in the region. The fact that it was a loop and not an out and back (which you don't get alot of paddling) drew me to it. The Erie Canal was another draw for me. It's a spectacular area... but I'm not from the area so I didn't know it would be like that. I'm not sure what it's like in the spring. I would think that would be the time...but I would check with local people who know first. Great question...wish I had a better answer. Thank u for watching
@robgerety That Greenland paddle saved me. Once I realized that I had to just leave it in the water behind me longer after every stroke and let the vegetation just pull off by itself ... i was able to move thru it much better until that last part which was like bloody quicksand lol... it was so think...just had to go as hard as I could to get thru that. I'm from Mass. The Connecticut River is on the bucket list. If it wasn't for that damn work thing I gotta go to every day...i could get to more of the places I wanna get to... Someday! Thank you so much for watching and your kind words. It means alot. Working on the last 2 episodes now of this series
Great video ! Nice job. The "yellow submarine" is an impressive vessel.
Thanks Bud...ya it got me outta that mess in one piece...it looked like a camouflaged kayak with all the stuff all over it lol...Thank U

Dang that was crazy... and quite nasty in spots. Your weren't kidding... quite the slog.

@@thepeacerunners I've paddled some intercoastal waters that were similar... but not nearly as gnarly as what you did.
