  • Updates on projects and disassembling a Logitech Harmony One remote to replace a swollen battery.
    I also switch over to a new Countryman H6 microphone, and it really cuts out the background noise.

    Although BH Photo indicates that it takes 7-14 days to ship (it is shipped from Countryman), it actually shipped only 1 day later and arrived a couple of days after that. Much faster than I expected.

    *I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

    2:15 exactly that´s what brought me here. We heard a sharp "crack" and the remote was bulged by the faulty battery. Thank you sir!

    Have my Harmony One maybe 7, 8 years and the best ever remote. I'm on my 2nd replacement battery, no swelling problems. Keys will stick on occasion but am afraid to use any kind of contact spray cleaner for fear of crazing the plastic case. Good video thanx.

    Thanks for posting this video--I too picked up a Harmony 900 remote second-hand, and it's battery as well was swollen and jammed in its slot. Your instructions enabled me to extract it from the remote without issues, and a new battery for the remote is in order. Thanks a bunch and cheers!

    There's another video that explains the battery getting swollen. If you leave it on the charger too long it overcharges and you get a swollen battery. Only charge it when it gives the low battery warning and only for the time it takes to charge fully.

    It worked! Thank you so much. I scratched up the case while removing the last piece. Could use some additional guidance there.

    A bit off topic, but I noticed in your opening photo collage that you have an RF Explorer handheld spectrum analyzer. In a future video it would be interesting to hear what an advanced user, such as yourself, found this reasonably priced device particularly useful for on the bench (or out in the field).

    Thank you a lot , your video helped me to understand why I can't get it out , but it was hard for me to take it apart , I spread Vaseline on a tiny knife and inserted it to cover the battery on both sides , left it for awhile and then with one hit , it came out , yes it was swollen battery .

    Watched the video it was a great watch but got to thinking there must be an easier and quicker way to remove the swollen battery so I did this, 1) Drill a small hole in the end of the battery insert a small screw then using a pair of pointy nose pliers simply slide the battery out and dice it in the trash, it came out very easily for me.

    That's the best remote Harmony made IMO - feels good in the hand and great size buttons .
    Thanks for the breakdown. Logitech remote batteries have that issue for some reason - anybody know why?

    I see you got a new one from logitech, how old was the harmony one? Did you still got waranty or did they give you a new one withoud warranty? Gr from the netherlands

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was way out of warranty, I bought my Harmony One remotes in June 2009... so they were 6 years old. I was very surprised that Logitech sent me the new Harmony One units as replacements. It was very generous of them to do that.

  • @vladimirlekic6029
    @vladimirlekic6029 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...and if I get the unit replaced and the old on repaired, will Logitech disable the old unit? If so, what then?

  • @hastlaAT

    Thanks, so you got a new remote from Logitech... was your old One still in waranty or do they replace them in that case?

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +hastlaAT My Harmony One remote was well beyond warranty, I think they replaced it because the swollen battery was a quality control problem and Logitech wanted to maintain good customer relations.

      @amnonhoppe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Corgitronics People offering their Harmony One Plus for this battery issue, should be aware that if Logitech do send you a replacement remote, the old one will be de-activated for updates. So while you still may be able to open it up and replace the battery, you will no longer be able to update it or make any changes to it. I do not like the Harmony Ultimate One in comparison with the Harmony One Plus, I would dearly miss the additional buttons of the One Plus for direct access. Logitech's warranty is awesome though. A Big fan of their hardware and especially the remotes.

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Amnon Hoppe Interesting, they didn't do that to me. I registered one of the Ultimate One units they sent me, and I was still able to make changes to my original Harmony One units a couple of months later. This may be a new policy?
      The Ultimate One unit is a real failure for me, so I kept using the old Harmony One units for quite a while. I only put them away when I got Google Fiber, which are RF all in one remotes... sort of.
      Yes, I still by Logitech products. Their products have held up well and they really have provided good service when there's a problem (typing this on a Logitech keyboard and using an Anywhere MX mouse.)

    • @amnonhoppe
      @amnonhoppe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Corgitronics maybe because yours did not work anymore with the battery in it, so they could not register the serial no? they have just shipped me the Ultimate one as a replacement, but I sure hope future remotes will have multiple keys again. This almost keyless design is not a match for any remote app that you can buy for your smart phone nowadays. Logitech should realize they put themselves out of the market that way.

    • @amnonhoppe
      @amnonhoppe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hastlaAT I too think they replaced it because the swollen battery was inferior product and Logitech wanted to maintain good customer relations. Mine was out of warranty. (I have three Harmony One's, now two and one ultimate)

  • @gusespinoza7163
    @gusespinoza7163 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    @corgitronics did you sent the old harmony one to Logitech to get the replacement?

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Logitech sent me a Harmony Ultimate One as a replacement, but it sucks. The UI design on the Ultimate One is crap.

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PolyNZian To check, just open up the battery cover and see if you can remove the battery. The remote keeps its programming even when the battery has been removed.

      +Corgitronics all sorted! my battery had enlarged also so needed to be opened in order to replace.

    Do you know where I can buy a new motherboard?

    • @Corgitronics
      @Corgitronics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AustinThinker79 I haven't seen much about replacing the circuit board in a Harmony One remote. The usual problems are the swollen battery issue, and dead screens.
      I just came across this site, and it would have saved me some effort if I'd found it a year ago: www.harmonyremoterepair.com/DIYGuides.html
