  • Bookclub with Jeffrey Sachs: Join Professor Jeffrey Sachs and political scientist Lindsey O’Rourke as they discuss O’Rourke’s remarkable book, Covert Regime Change. US foreign policy is based heavily on trying to overthrow foreign governments, and O’Rourke’s account is a powerful and deeply scholarly account of America’s frequent resort to secretive regime-change operations. Her book focuses on the Cold War years (1947-1989), but Sachs and O’Rourke bring the issues up to the current day.
O’Rourke’s highly insightful study offers a deep and rare look at the hows and whys of US foreign policy. Together, Sachs and O’Rourke discuss why U.S. covert regime-change operations have rarely succeeded but have often left a colossal mess in their wake.

This is a wonderful and very important discussion! I am astounded this hasn't received more views. I have now purchased several of the books mentioned (Lindsey's, John Mearsheimer's, and Jeff's) and will do what I can to promote you both. I'm a longtime Jeff Sachs and John M fan. Very glad to see John M has a protege in Lindsey to carry on this extremely important work.

That's why Kissinger said it was dangerous to be an enemy of the USA, but lethal to be its friend.

Great discussion, thank you for shining a light on this important issue, i live in the middle east so we know this very well, the US took advantage of the arab spring and did their regeme change that ruined the entire area and did a lot of coups, and even years before that

Dynamite research. I have a sample downloaded to my Kindle and will check it out. I have been working for change since 1968 so am well aware of many of these attempts.

Excellent book discussion , pity it is not widely watched . I wonder why countries who are aware of the role of NED does not ban the organization from operating in their country e.g. Russia?

I , like yourself , have evolved my understanding over time of the polarities at work in our world. The world has to and adapted.
Its my belief that optimizations were established in the presence of these dynamics and came to best practices on both sides of the polarization.
That's where were at now , the multipolar world...

How does this video only have 679 views!
How many millions of people died and suffered because of this?
I believe many of these were not supposed to "Have success" but rather just to delay the development of a country for decades

This is too critical content towards prevailing powers therefore google messes up the algorithm and as result it will not pop up to viewers screen. In fact this is what we can call calculated censorship. This makes me mad as hell. This conversation between prof Sachs and Lindsay was fantastic!
