Had the opportunity to drive this beautiful model (in Silver) 450 miles to deliver it to the owner in time for Christmas 2017. It had 11,000 miles on it, and I picked it up from the dealership where it still enjoyed the showroom floor. It was in perfect, as new, condition. After a brief introduction to the systems, we departed with my co-pilot answering questions from the owners manual as they came up, and they came up quickly. The airline I used to fly for, would make a two week ground school out of the systems followed by a week in the simulator and a cross country checkout with a check airman before turning you loose to haul passengers. By the time we got to destination, we were just beginning to understand and appreciate this awesome machine, and both of us regretted the trip was over.

I would want the V12 simply because it's rare, exclusive, distinguished and expensive as hell. Besides, there's a really weird thing that happens when you own a powerful car like this. You lose the desire or need to "prove" yourself. AD3
Armánd Dotsey I know I am late with my comment. For me it all comes down to exclusiveness. Yes a lambo Aventador or huracan are dope... But this is from a different dimension. It's way more luxurious, exclusive and as you put it... Rare. With this car in your garage YOU could have bought one of the Lambos... But ... There is really no comparison between them and this... Except the pricetag. The S65 is like motoman says... The proverbial drop of the microphone...
This one, of course! A V12 its always a more noble engine than any other. Just needed to be the cabrio version, to enjoy the sound even more, the sun and brise in my face.
When it comes to luxury car, you're officially my go-to guy! I'll probably never afford them but your reviews are entertaining and straight to the point. You got yourself a new subscriber!
Niki Smart described it perfectly "About The Journey, Where Time Really Wasn't An Issue, You Are Not In a Rush, You Are Really There To Enjoy The Vehicle" A V12 is a very special experience ... all those cylinders All that torque ... something to admire & enjoy! A V12 GT means you are in for something special & truly "Magical". That Emerald Green is frickin Gorgeous & that Saddle Leather, Black Alcantra, Striped Veneer & Chrome Wheels combination is Perfection On Wheels. I completely agree, that Silver On Grey Combination (I call it The Audi Special) is awful ... It didn't do the car any justice at all. You know me, I'm a V8 man, but if I got the opportunity to go for the V12, I'll do it in a Heartbeat ! ... Heck I'd do a V12 conversion if I could. A Slow Clap to AMG for creating a V12 SUV in this day & age ... I've been looking forward to this episode M! And you did not disappoint ... As always excellent video! Now since you drove the entire S range, is the Maybach 600 next? Its the only one left.
Wow really cool review. The best one I have ever seen. I really liked the in depth explanations of differences in engine design and characteristics of driving. You just don’t get that from other reviews. Subscribing now
If I had the money... I would buy this in a heartbeat over any super or hypercar... Have you ever seen the inside of an Lamborghini? Yes Ferraris are dope... But no super or hypercar brings you as comfortably from a to b as the s65 does. And people will still twist their heads in awe when they hear or see you in this...
First time watcher and immediate subscriber. Wonderful presentation of the ultimate Benz. My favourite Mercedez-Benz,this one really does have it all. Great looks, two doors, a monster 12 cylinder engine etc. I’m not sure if the s63 non 4matic version would be more engaging to drive. According to the Chris Harris Video he fancies the s63 coupe and having watched him tear it up around the track would have to agree. Setting a future gal for myself to one day own one of these.
New subscriber here. This is one of the best auto journalism TH-cam channels. Very informative and not filled with non sense information just to fill up time.
Motoman, I completely agree with your choice of interior and exterior colours on this car. Dark metallic green over saddle brown with cream piping is my absolute favourite. The majority of vehicles these days are dull, cold tones in the gray-scale. White, gray, black = blah. Cheers to colour!
Thank you very much for helping me decide on which one to get. Before this video I thought S65 is not worth the extra money, but now it makes sense. Keep up the great work and good luck.
I came to this vid several years late because I'm currently looking to pick up a pre-owned one. Excellent vid, however you were incorrect on 1 fairly big point: the firing order. That Mercedes V12 and the Aston V12 are both odd-fire. Feel free to look it up, but you can also hear it in how "lumpy" they both sound at low RPM levels, like a V8--which are also usually odd-fire. Both the Lamborghini and Ferrari V12's are indeed even-fire, and both sound "smoother" at low revs and "scream" at high revs. Now, the Mercedes M120 V12 from the early 90's WAS an even fire engine, and when used in the Zonda, it screamed too. I presume that Mercedes went to odd-fire on this generation of V12's to get more torque down low in the rev range, which tends to be an odd-fire characteristic.
I applaud your knowledge of cars and its technology features. None of the magazines offer such precise details about a car than u.. also u educate us on what some of the new technology on newer cars. I regret not buying a S65 and settled for a S63 couple of years ago.. if I knew all this before the difference other than HP difference i would have picked a S65 without a doubt!! Thanks again
Somehow you found the only Mercedes I'd buy in a heart beat absolutely stunning Cadillac or Lincoln need to build a Luxury coupe on par with this great video.
The 5.5L TT AMG V8 fitted to the E63s 4 matic. The reason is due to the level of both performance and perfection of the driving. Also because it's considered just another Mercedes it would go unnoticed and attract minimal attention.
Thanx for a very professional review. This was plus to my decision to buy S65 Coupé. I have it since March 2017 and must say enjoy it very much. All what you explained is available in the car. Good luck.
MB is getting their act together. This car is sex on wheels (although I would prefer it in midnight blue metallic/saddle). I have always been a big coupe guy. I grew up in the 60's when cars like 65 Buick Riviera's and 64 Thunderbirds (along with others) ruled the roads. I am glad to see a return of a really statement car that is a big coupe. I would take the V12 4Matic version all day long over a rear drive S63. Just my opinion.
Re: green - surely you must know this is the rarest of all MB colours - when they offer it as a choice you will almost never see it amongst all the black, white, and grey, sometimes punctuated by tenorite or selenite grey. Robert Deniro's line was "they say geniuses pick green" in meet the Fockers. The CL coupes have always been very limited production and so it goes with the S coupes - with the only competing color to that fabulous green the dark cherry red that looks black. Fabulous car - and although I've driven a V-12 S class, I'd "settle" for the 550 V8 version or take an S63 if one came up. Perhaps you haven't seen the youtube video of MB removing a V-12 from the bottom of the car to work on the twin turbos... but why concern yourself with such things if you can afford one! Live large my friend!
MotoManTV never doubted you for a second with colors :) You make some of the very best entertaining and fact oriented video's! There at the end before you said "dropping the mic" I feard you were gonna make a nazi-joke haha. Maybe it's just me but Germany and that hand sign before you dropped the mic XD
That deep-sounding V12 is rare nowadays, and much appreciated. I like the sound of the V12 harmony, but my soft reptile ears pay the price when they pick up the horrible shrieks of the likes of Aventador and FXX. The AMG V12 is therefore a winner.
Great review! Love your technical input. Never enough. I’d insist on the w-12 as I believe that it will appreciate over time (maybe a long long holding period). But scarcity and uniqueness are traits fostering appreciation. The smoothness would be fun. The sound? I’m unsure if this exhaust system allows you to hear it much. That can be fixed i gather, at great expense.
The S65 Coupe is an amazing Grand Touring car...but at 4850 pounds give or take, they are a lot more compelling cars to drive down a winding canyon road...It makes my M6 seem lithe in comparison...or even my E55 for that matter. The S65 AMG Sedan has much more utility to it from my perspective...
Excellent information in this review! Only complaints, are terrible shots of the car. You talk about the paint job so highly, yet there are no panning shots all around the car in decent light to see it, we simply look at the headlights, front-end with the hood up, zoom-in on the tailpipes, and brief fly by's on the road. Otherwise, pretty good review.
4matic chassises makes the car heavier but I would love to drive if it will be at the next v12 engine who knows !! thanks motoman for your great reviews :)
I will never buy a sports car with EcoBoost V6 engine, frankly, I would choose V12, because this type of cars, luxurious and sporty. And I will put the Rolls-Royce Wraith on the top of the list.
سهيل العلي DB9 isn't exactly sporty, unless you go for one of the R models it's another V12 continent crosser - despite what this guy says - they aren't even fast by current standards - very beautiful though. Same with the S65, not sporty, luxury cruiser - I mean it weighs as much as a SUV! NOT SPORTY! C7 is definitely sporty - I'd own one because it's probably one of the best cars ever made in America, but it's not really in the same league build wise as the Europeans. Sporty is 991 911 (Turbo S for the road, please!) though personally I'd go for a Jaguar F type though, 6 cylinder manual supercharged - use all that money you save for an aftermarket tune to give it some straight line balls. Perfection, at least for me.
MotoManTV you put petrol in the car for sure but I want to know what other things you put in the car like coolant and others ? And were do you buy those things
Stunning car. I would definitely choose the v12. It's unfortunate that this engine almost always seem to come with a compromise or two. Wasn't the previous generation s65 a 5 speed auto since their newer MCTs couldn't handle the torque? Now with the new one it has the torque converter that you said takes some away from the experience. Dear Santa.....
If i were to design an engine for a big luxury coupe/GT car i'd go for a V12 or a 6L Hybrid... they just sound better than anything else and are as smooth as it gets...
This would on my Bucket list if I hit the Lottery. I'd build it out online then order what I want and shipped or fly and pick it up from the factory...
Very good review! i have a challenge for you guys. Compare this mercedes S65 AMG V12 Biturbo with the S600-Maybach..to check if there is any significant improvement in the latest.
V12! With the natural balance and grunt there is no decision to make. The decision is what do you put it in. The low revs of the merc, the higher RPM of the Vanquish S, or the wail of the fazza? I think the Aston would win for me. At the Bathurst 24 hour in NSW Australia, this car won hearts with the sound track. The fazza is a great sound too, but comes with some very strict maintenance requirements. I would hate to be in the situation where I would have to chose between the mid engine stunning handling and frenetic wail or the growl of the Aston.
I had my first Mercedes 1964 (A 190"Tank"). then went through with domestic vehicles for years since I couldn't afford a Mercedes. I went back to Mercedes S500 in 2005, it had issues as far as material quality, then E350 then E350 Blu Tec and finally AMG as soon as I could afford it, I've since had 2004 S55 AMG, the 2007 S65 AMG, then 2011 S65 AMG, and now I have 2016 S65 AMG. Sad to say that 2020 will be the final edition of the 65 AMG, so I am going to hang on to the 2016. I wouldn't drive anything else for the rest of my life. In fact i told my dear wife that when I assume room temperature she can bury me in the S65, it is a whole lot superior to anything I can be resting in for eternity.
Without the 4MATIC, how is traction in a straight line with that much torque? Seems like most car companies (BMW/Mercedes especially and Audi already of course), are making 4-MATIC, XDrive etc standard in their heavier, higher torque cars (new BMW M5, Merc S63 etc) in order to keep the car grounded with all the torque.
mugdays ZERO doubt. S65. Did you guys HEAR that engine noise? Not AT ALL doctored. In fact, we pushed up the volume on the exhaust note in post just a tad to make certain you could hear the rumble . . .
yes, it reads the road ahead of you and keeps the vehicle relatively flat while going through a turn however you get a slight dip to the inside corner. It almost feels as if the vehicle turns in past the turn in you set via the steering wheel, but it doesn't feel like it's going to slide. Rather it feels like you're attached to a rail.
Trying to decide how I feel about the styling - its quite understated which I like - but some angles it seems really clumsy looking, like when he's showing off the "fridge" feature, the rear looks terribly frumpy. Then you see it from the front and it's kinda sexy, not too fussy like a lot of cars. I guess it looks like what it is, which is an unbelievably heavy coupe - seriously how did they manage to make it that heavy? Is it made out of plutonium or something? Certainly no F type in the looks department that's for sure - though it probably won't age too badly looks wise.
Great review. Don't think you really can fault this vehicle on engineering and tech. Amazing cutting-edge features. Beauty and sound is subjective, but for mine, I'll take a Ferrari or Aston Martin V12 over this every single day of the week. Just think the Italians and British really know a thing or two about styling. Then again though, wouldn't be a bad problem to have. Nice work MM.
I just sold my FERRARI and thinking to buy S 63 AMG ( V8 ) and i heard you say that you drove a ferrari before driving that Mercedes 😉 is that a sign for me or what 😅
I'd go for the V12. It's a luxury cruiser and nothing says luxury cruiser better than a V12.
Go big or go home

I have a 2006 S65. I smile every day when I get in it. I am targeting this car in about two more year. So fun to drive.
I am a V8 guy but there is something about the S65 AMG coupe that I just love - so iin this case I would go for the V12.
Utterly enchanting, not only the car but the countryside-just wonderful.Nice video.

Great report about the best car in the world, the Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe!
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed this video a lot. Subscribed! Amazing machine, the V12 would be my choice...

V12 I have it and it’s terrific
This bloke truly knows his cars!
Nice review. The S65 AMG Coupe is my favorite car.
Absolutely beautiful car.....you know what does get more attention, though?....my Aston DB9.2...I love all these cars🥃🥃
MotoManTV never doubted you for a second with colors :) You make some of the very best entertaining and fact oriented video's! What a great reviewer!!! Subscribed!!!
Fml. This car is the dream. Look at that interior. Great review as well. Subbed
This car is classic and so amazing at the same time. Breathless... :D
Greetings from Germany near Stuttgart :)
That deep-sounding V12 is rare nowadays, and much appreciated. I like the sound of the V12 harmony, but my soft reptile ears pay the price when they pick up the horrible shrieks of the likes of Aventador and FXX. The AMG V12 is therefore a winner.
Thank you! I always learn a lot from you. Job well done
You are a really good reviewer, excellent videos, im subscribing!
It's cars like this that tempt me out of my auto motive vow of poverty to only buy Ford's to keep my expenses down... Now I know how a Priest feels.
That's how AMG drops the MIC !!!
The Emerald Green looks so nice with the brown leather inside..
I have an 08 S65 and all I can say is I can’t wait for this year to depreciate down lol
I don't know why I haven't seen this channel before your style reminds me of Matt Farah, Subbed!
You are such a geek, I love it!
green and saddle combo is my personal best!
Hey moto man aawesome reviews you are best
Mercedes really know to make cars... the only really.. looks best....

I drive an SL65 and an S65. My mechanic says both of my M275 biturbos are ODD firing.
Not sure how you make a V12 fire ODD, but that’s his story.
Awesome video.
Excellent review.
Man V12 engines are so special. Really sucks that we're downsizing with turbos.
I would have the V12 for that sweet sound, IF it didn't cost $481 822 in Norway.
And that is without any equipment!
You just gained another subscriber
Naturally aspirated V12 Ferrari engine with two electrical motors a la La Ferrari. Excited to possibly see one in a coming GT.
4matic chassises makes the car heavier but I would love to drive if it will be at the next v12 engine who knows !! thanks motoman for your great reviews :)
Great review
I will never buy a sports car with EcoBoost V6 engine, frankly, I would choose V12, because this type of cars, luxurious and sporty. And I will put the Rolls-Royce Wraith on the top of the list.
سهيل العلي rolls royce and sporty dont go together
Yes. But I love The rolls, If I Well Boy A sporty car, I well chose the DB9 Or S65 Or even C7.
سهيل العلي DB9 isn't exactly sporty, unless you go for one of the R models it's another V12 continent crosser - despite what this guy says - they aren't even fast by current standards - very beautiful though.

سهيل العلي I'd rather have the Rolls Royce Wraith.
سهيل العلي why not buy the best of both worlds, the bently continental gt ?
Your channel is great ! I enjoy watching you, especially when you go all polylingual on us :D
+listentocKy0893 Grazie . . . Vielen Dank . . . Mahalo . . . :)
MotoManTV you put petrol in the car for sure but I want to know what other things you put in the car like coolant and others ? And were do you buy those things
If you want the best you buy Mercedes-Benz V12 biturbo power plant. It last forever an its something you can love and cherish for years to come.
Nicely done.
If i were to design an engine for a big luxury coupe/GT car i'd go for a V12 or a 6L Hybrid... they just sound better than anything else and are as smooth as it gets...
Beautiful car and it sounds great!!
This would on my Bucket list if I hit the Lottery. I'd build it out online then order what I want and shipped or fly and pick it up from the factory...
What a wonderful car !!!
I've been in that exact car. It's nice, but I'd go black on black personally.
Very good review! i have a challenge for you guys. Compare this mercedes S65 AMG V12 Biturbo with the S600-Maybach..to check if there is any significant improvement in the latest.
dhuod dbih Challenge ACCEPTED! Sorta . . . We have the Maybach on our production calendar for early August . . . expect a film out after that . . .
V12! With the natural balance and grunt there is no decision to make. The decision is what do you put it in. The low revs of the merc, the higher RPM of the Vanquish S, or the wail of the fazza? Without the 4MATIC, how is traction in a straight line with that much torque? Seems like most car companies (BMW/Mercedes especially and Audi already of course), are making 4-MATIC, XDrive etc standard in their heavier, higher torque cars (new BMW M5, Merc S63 etc) in order to keep the car grounded with all the torque.
10:53 right this way Mister? …Bond, James Bond.
need this in my life
If I had 50 million in the bank I'd buy this car and only this car
The s550 coupe is also nice
Brilliant!
Finally a good-looking Merc....
Jonathan Peden ...except for the silly, spangly eyelashes
If you think Mercedes builds ugly cars....... Then I'm sorry for you
I think the new Mercedes headlight are ugly as hell
***** W211 E class is amazing aswell.. Also, if anyone dares to say SLS is ugly, I will smack em.
Ha, Mercedes has been looking good forever
V12 only because if the sound and the soul of the engine.
So, after driving them both, which one would YOU get, MotoMan?
mugdays ZERO doubt. S65. Did you guys HEAR that engine noise? Not AT ALL doctored. In fact, we pushed up the volume on the exhaust note in post just a tad to make certain you could hear the rumble . . .

Thanks, that makes my purchase decision easier! :P
Yeah now you can go buy that Ford Focus.
that curve control ... is that the same as u can get in mp4_12C which adapt with the curve condition?
yes, it reads the road ahead of you and keeps the vehicle relatively flat while going through a turn however you get a slight dip to the inside corner.
Thats a guy who built your car based on my detective skills :P
Gorgeous car
Great review. Don't think you really can fault this vehicle on engineering and tech. Amazing cutting-edge features. Beauty and sound is subjective, but for mine, I'll take a Ferrari or Aston Martin V12 over this every single day of the week. Just think the Italians and British really know a thing or two about styling. Then again though, wouldn't be a bad problem to have. Nice work MM.
For a lux cruiser I'd get a 4L cdi engine supplemented by some EL motors.
Hey that's here in California isn't it??
A beautiful car.
I just sold my FERRARI and thinking to buy S 63 AMG ( V8 ) and i heard you say that you drove a ferrari before driving that Mercedes 😉 is that a sign for me or what 😅
