@lincolnmaceachern2410 Leslie was actually cast often as the "handsome leading man" on TV and in the movies. He starred in Forbidden Planet with Walter Pigeon and Ann Frances. Did some guest spots on shows like Columbo. It was his "handsome leading guy" deal that got him cast on Airplane. Lots of "against type" casting in the movie. Turns out Leslie was a natural!

I worked at a Radio/TV facility in 1982. The TV station was an ABC affiliate. One night I was walking down a hall that separated radio from TV. I heard uproarious laughter coming from the TV control room. I looked in the window and saw TV engineers bent over in laughter; there were credits running over what I thought was a freeze frame at the end of a cop show on the Program Monitor. Well I had to see what this was about! I watched the show the next week and hit the floor laughing. So that's what was so funny! I was dumbfounded when it was cancelled so soon.

Obviously it spawned the very successful Naked Gun film series eventually. I always figured the Zucker-Abrams-Zucker style was just too much on a weekly basis (both for the audience and the writers - this style of humor can tend to become too predictable and repetitive - “I am serous, and don’t call me Shirley.”) But for 100 minutes every couple of years at the movies, it’s perfect.

I loved watching this show and somehow just knew it would not last .... didn't expect such an extremely short run, but knew the majority were too wrapped up in shit like Knot's Landing, Dallas, and The A-Team for it to get a fair shake. That and TV executives always did put too much stock and Nielsen ratings and such shotty research.
This show in many ways was far ahead of its time.

Those old days of sane humor... that kind of humor is missing today.. on tv and movies..
"The Fake freeze" was really one of the best kind of endings.
The main characters (and some side ones) freezes on the ending, while the others who are there to basically "fill some gaps", continue doing their thigns (or at least, the rest of the enviorement).
Best idea they had... too bad that wasn't shared between the rest of movies and tv shows..

A lot of the current humor doesn't make me laugh, but this show makes me belly laugh. I also love the freeze frame, and I also like that they have special guest stars that are never in the show, like Abraham Lincoln, who wielded a pistol like a pro. Good stuff. Truly funny.
