Vilette wasn't a bad novel by any means! I just thought it could be a bit better since it was considered the last Bronte novel. Also, I love the cozy baking since it is rather chilly where I live. Thank you for posting! 💕💕
Did you book have translations in the back? The penguin clothbound edition has translations in the back of the book and I definitely couldn’t have made it through otherwise.
I've felt the exact opposite towards Villette but we both agree on giving the novel 4,5 stars 😅 I've found the first part very confusing, but I loved Part Two and Three. I also loved M. Paul 🙈. I think we see him through Lucy's eyes and she's such an unreliable narrator, so he may not be that awful in the first part as we read him. There's surely something wrong with me, but I love a *fictional* broken, cranky man 🤦🏼♀️. I skipped Shirley but now I'd love to read all Charlotte's novels. Her style is impecable. And the description of Lucy on drugs is un-be-lie-va-ble!
I love that you marked ‘fictional’ haha. She sure does write memorable fictional men, even if I can’t stand them. Really interesting to hear your thought. Thank you for sharing!

That’s interesting, do you have another Brontë novel you prefer?

Yes, they were at the end. But i found it so annoying that I had to flip to the back constantly 😅
